Insecurities are probably the only constant in this ever changing world. Be it that paunch you just noticed, the acne, the social anxiety you have or the constant over thinking you do, we all have our fears. But then, whats a human without imperfections? Spending time with your own self, healing yourself through art are the keystones in a journey to a self empowered self. At the same time, its imperative that we find something we love about ourselves. Is it the way you are good at organising yourself, the way you never lose at a guess game because you have strong instincts? Search for them, the magnitude doesnt matter and brag about them. Unapologetically. Empowering oneself is to accept our flaws and reflect our strengths. To be defined by the society is the biggest wrong you can do to yourself. Go out and enjoy that movie because you want to. Dont let society tell you if its not a conventional one. Read more, and create more. Spend time with yourself and heal through it for we all are manifestation of the cosmic elements. Even moon, a symbol of beauty has spots on it. There’s this road behind my old house that leads to the woods. I remember it clearly, like when I lost my childhood. I drive it almost every day in the deepest part of my mind. You, petal to the floor in the front seat screaming that life is never kind and I was hanging out the side window with the wind in my hair. Remember when we were there? You reached for my hand, but I gave my heart instead, so you made me a promise to keep it safe and in my head you were the kind of boy who I could trust. With something so fragile. You swore as the tires kicked up dust that we would be forever. We would never die. But that damn dirty road is where I learned that boys know how to lie...that boys take joy in making pretty girls cry. You said your arms were heavy, said you were done. That I was too good, swore there was no one...else. But I knew. It wasn’t true. There are roses blooming now. Back amongst the trees. And when I go home I think of you, when I can smell them in the breeze and I wonder what made such a beautiful boy decide that breaking me into pieces was the the best way to hide a fucking change of mind. You were right...life is always incredibly unkind. •••••• . . . This piece is for the @yourheartbeatsloud prompt to take an old piece and rework it. The second slide is the original poem I wrote in 10th grade about a boy who broke my heart. Clearly I still harbor some unresolved issues over it. And I may or may not have always been very dramatic. 🤣 oh and that last slide is me at 16! I was in a panic spiral this morning and then I realized if I have the time to sit and worry, then I probably have 10 minutes to meditate (there are so many apps to chose from!). So I meditated and had tea and I feel so much better. I was also anxious about making a doodle, then once I meditated and learned this lesson this flowed out of me quickly!
