(33/32) If there’s anything that’s clear from Stephanie’s story—it’s her candor. But one condition of her storytelling has always been that we respect the privacy of her two children, and not include details about their lives. (Yes, there were two.) Many of you asked what happened to Stephanie’s first son. They have had a relationship for almost his entire life. Sometimes distant. Sometimes close. But by the time I met Stephanie, she had not spoken to him for a few years. This was clearly a source of pain for her. But Stephanie has that particular habit of people who have been hurt, where at the slightest hint of conflict, she’ll reflexively withdraw— so at least she can be hurt on her own terms. This is what happened with her son. I’d always wondered about Mitch. And during the course of our story, some determined readers discovered his Instagram account. I reached out to him and we had a long chat. As it so often goes, Mitch and Stephanie’s estrangement was based on a misunderstanding. There had been a particularly bad argument, and both were convinced that the other did not desire a relationship. Stephanie asked me to give Mitch her new cellphone number. And a couple days later they spent a wonderful afternoon together. It was the happiest I’ve seen Stephanie. ‘It hasn’t always been easy with my mother,’ Mitch explained. ‘But I know her story. And I understand her traumas. So I have nothing against her. It’s taken a lot of work—but I’ve arrived in a place of positivity. Voici une recette que vous allez sûrement tous adorer : des rouleaux de boeuf à la sauce Teriyaki AYAM™ ! _________________ INGRÉDIENTS : 85g doignons verts (coupés en longueurs de 2 ou 3cm) 227g de bœuf en fines tranches Sel et poivre 1 cuillerée à soupe dhuile végétale 2 c. à soupe de bouillon de bœuf 5 cuillères à soupe de Sauce Teriyaki AYAM™ PRÉPARATION : 1. Placez une tranche de viande sur une planche à découper, salez et poivrez. Posez ensuite quelques morceaux doignons verts sur une extrémité de la viande et commencez à rouler. Répétez lopération jusquà ne plus avoir de viande ni doignons verts. 3. Dans une poêle, faites chauffer lhuile à feu moyen-élevé. Lorsquelle est chaude, placez les rouleaux de viande doucement avec la ligne de fermeture vers le bas. Faites cuire un côté des rouleaux jusquà ce quils aient une belle couleur, puis faites-les tourner sur le côté suivant. 4. Une fois que la viande est bien cuite de tous les côtés, réduisez le feu à moyen et ajoutez le bouillon de bœuf. Couvrir et faire cuire jusquà ce que le bouillon sévapore. 5. Ajoutez la sauce Teriyaki dans la poêle et tournez les rouleaux de façon à ce quils soient uniformément recouverts de sauce. Transférez les roulés sur un plat. 6. Ditambah juga Maggi Magic Lezat Rasa Ayam yang membuat aroma dan kelezatan masakan lebih tahan lama. Cek bahan lain dan cara buatnya berikut ini. __________ Porsi: 4-5 orang Waktu masak: 30 menit Bahan-bahan: 1 ekor ayam (ukuran 600 gr) 2 ltr air untuk merebus 2 cm lengkuas, geprek 1 batang serai, geprek 2 lembar daun salam 2 lembar daun jeruk ½ sdt Maggi Magic Lezat Rasa Ayam 2 batang seledri, ikat Bumbu halus: 8 siung bawang putih 6 siung bawang merah 3 butir kemiri 2 cm jahe 1 sdt jintan, sangrai 1 sdt merica 1 sdt ketumbar, sangrai 1 ½ sdt Maggi Magic Lezat 1 sdt gula pasir Air secukupnya Bahan pelengkap: 4 butir telur rebus, potong 4 100 gr tauge, direbus dalam air mendidih selama 30 detik agar tidak terlalu layu 1 batang daun seledri, iris halus Bawang putih goreng Cara membuat: 1. Rebus ayam dalam 1 liter air mendidih selama 5 menit untuk membersihkan kotoran dan bau amis ayam, kemudian tiriskan. 2. Rebus kembali ayam menggunakan air baru. Masukkan lengkuas, serai, ½ sdt Maggi Magic Lezat Rasa Ayam, masak hingga ayam matang. Tiriskan ayam, (jika suka digoreng dulu) kemudian suwir-suwir. Sisihkan. 3. Saring air kaldu ayam agar warna kaldunya tidak butek. Sisihkan. 4. Haluskan bawang putih, bawang merah, jintan, ketumbar, kemiri, jahe, 1 ½ sdt Maggi Magic Lezat, merica, gula, dan sedikit air. 5. Tumis bumbu halus dengan daun salam dan daun jeruk, kemudian masukkan ke kaldu ayam. Masukkan daun seledri yang diikat, masak hingga mendidih. 6. Susun tauge, suwiran ayam, dan telur rebus di mangkuk, kemudian tuangkan kuah soto. Taburkan seledri dan bawang putih goreng. Have you been able to carve out intimate spaces to connect with community or are you feeling isolated? Are your devices💻 weighing you down or giving you more opportunities to tap into what brings you joy?⁣ ⁣ Sometimes its hard to share this because I dont want to offend folks who are feeling challenged in this moment but honestly I am thriving in the midst of quarantine. As a woman of African descent, who is the primary support system for a teenager, manages my own business, a variety of other work related projects, a partner and an arts practice. I needed a break!⁣ ⁣ Dont get me wrong, I am a MASTER at honoring my self and my spirit. But this quarantine forced not just me, but literally the entire world to slow its pace. This has given me invaluable time to nurture my home, connect with family and focus on my aspirations in a new way. It has also forced me to be on the computer waaaay more than I would like. I have so many zoom meetings these days as Yeye Teish says, I feel like a zoombie. So, being the Sh8peshifter I am, I shifted. I shifted my wellness and spiritual practices to fit my new reality. Whatever is required to center my joy, has been (re)prioritized and whatever doesnt serve me had to go!⁣ ⁣ Sometimes we get so caught up in doing things the old way that even when everything around us changes, we are still dragging the old us into our new reality. Let me remind you WE ARE NOT GOING BACK TO THE WAY THINGS WERE. We are only moving forward. She was my new spirit animal. I felt that this little girl was what my heart looks like on the inside. 🤗 I couldn’t find any shirts like this online, so I custom made one. The first day I wore it, I was getting lunch (pre-covid) with my friend Katie at a cute sushi place. It was PACKED. The servers were running around, and one of them accidentally dropped a tray of glasses all over the ground, right behind us. 😩😩😩 Woman, I know the feeling. The server was visually exhausted and started picking up the cups. As women, we grow up in a society telling us to be quiet, be polite, be feminine, be agreeable, blah, blah, blahhhh.⠀ 🙄⠀ I spent so many years doing just that. ⠀ Working in the hospitality industry, you are taught the guest is ALWAYS right. So when a grown man is yelling at my face, my job is to nod in agreeance, apologize for whatever has upset them, and then literally reward them for complaining by giving them free stuff. WHAT?!!⠀ 🤬⠀ Starting off in the photography industry, I had the same mindset. Do whatever it takes to please everyone else. Sacrifice your time, your energy, and your peace to appease others. And sometimes even that was not enough to stop the harassment.⠀ 😅⠀ Then I remember:⠀ I AM MY OWN FREAKING BOSS. ⠀ I OWN MY OWN FREAKING COMPANY. ⠀ I CALL THE FREAKING SHOTS.⠀ 😎⠀ This year I have had the time to take a step back and re-asses my business, my goals, my values, and what exactly it means to be a Sarah Crost Photography couple.⠀ 🗒⠀ I am more than ready to do the work necessary to build the company that I have always wanted to work for. To pay it forward every time I book a client. To speak up when I see injustice. For this weeks #mcmullenmuse we are highlighting the one and only @doellingcarolyn. Carolyn’s modeling career began at age 72 while mingling and taking photos with the pumpkins at the local Market Hall Foods supermarket. Her purpose was to draw attention to the intentional use of color in our daily wardrobes. After sending photos to AARP for publication, she was encouraged to become a model. She shared her mission with Sherri McMullen and a bond formed. She has been modeling for McMullen since that time and was recently featured in a Tibi Social Club feature. Fun Fact: Carolyn works out every day and can do as many as 100 (each) sit-ups, push ups, shoulder presses, curls, overhead extensions and bicycles in one session. 🚨Trigger Warning: Mental health post. September 10 was World Suicide Prevention Day. Sure, I love fashion and share style tips through this page and my blog. You see the smiles but you don’t see the pain behind them & journey it took to simply love myself. 🧩 The foundation of sharing glimpses of my life with you is to inspire women to embrace a solo lifestyle, with pillars of that being self-love and self-care. 🧩 I’ve struggled with depression, anxiety and PTSD for longer than I can recall. I used to be ashamed to discuss what I experienced out of fear and the repercussions – be it perceived or actual – associated with mental illness. 🧩 Before I took the right steps to really understand my triggers, why I react as I do in certain situations, how it impacts me physically, etc., it ruined a lot of relationships and opportunities. 🧩 A large part of my wellness and self-love and self-care journey is addressing the Why behind what my triggers are; shifting my mindset to acknowledge the feelings in the moment, disrupt the negative thoughts, and replace them with something more productive. 🧩 Now that I’ve accepted the traumas I experienced that led to PTSD, educated myself about how they affect me, & developed a holistic wellness plan, I’ve learned to view mental illness not as a weakness – a flaw – but strength. It’s my superpower. 🧩 The positive aspects are that they’ve given me an enhanced ability for empathy. For compassion. For assuming positive intent and living a life in service of others. 🧩 Your mental illness does not define you. Your mental illness does not make you unlovable or unworthy. Your mental illness is your superpower. Embrace it. Educate yourself. Be committed to a wellness plan that works for you. 🧩 If you have a friend or loved one who is experiencing mental illness, be there for them. It’s that simple. No unsolicited advice. No positive affirmations. No expecting them to reach out when they’re at their lowest. Simply let them know you care and you’re there. Dahinter steht ein großer Wunsch: dass Menschen - einfach nur weil sie Menschen sind - die gleichen Rechte haben. Dass diese Rechte auch realisiert werden. Und dass jeder für sich abwägt, ob das eigene Tun diesem Prinzip entspricht. Natürlich, wir reden hier nicht über Kleinigkeiten. Es geht um die ganz großen Kategorien. Das Tolle ist, wir können alle, ganz im Kleinen, entscheidende Schritte in diese Richtung gehen. Jeden Tag. Wie?! Mit Fragen. Woher kommt mein Kaffee (Schokolade/ Schmuck/ Schuh/ sucht es euch aus!)? Unter welchen Bedingungen wurde dieses Lieblingsstück, das ich jetzt unbedingt haben will, geschaffen? Waren die Produzenten Kinder oder werden Menschen krank durch diese Arbeit? (Sei ehrlich, willst du das in deinen Alltag mitnehmen?!). Ich träume von mehr „Wer? Wie? Was?“, mehr „wer nicht fragt bleibt dumm“ als Motor, neugierig zu bleiben. Und ich wünsche mir Weggefährten auf der Entdeckungsreise „Tausend tolle Sachen, die gibt es überall zu sehen“ und mutige Abenteurer, die „fragen, um sie zu verstehen“. Gemüseparty zum Mittagessen Mit diesem Rezept zeigen wir dir das perfekte fruchtige Gemüse-Curry für eine feine Mahlzeit, serviert mit Reis. Das Besondere? Es enthält unter anderem vitaminreichen Pak Choi. Zutaten für 4 Port. 500 g Butternut Kürbis 1 rote Peperoni 2 EL Pflanzenöl 1 Zwiebel 1 kleines Stk. Ingwer 1 TL Koriandersamen 1 kleine rote Chilischote 200 g Pak Choi 400 ml Kokosmilch light (fettreduziert, 12% Fett) 2 EL Limettensaft 2 TL KNORR Natürlich Fein! Gemüsebouillon Granulat 2 EL Koriander gehackt Zubereitung 1. Kürbis halbieren, entkernen und schälen. Fruchtfleisch in 2 cm grosse Würfel schneiden. Peperoni putzen und in Streifen schneiden. Kürbis und Peperoni auf ein Backblech verteilen und mit 1 EL Öl beträufeln. Im vorgeheizten Backofen bei 180 °C (Umluft: 160 °C) ca. 30 Minuten garen, bis das Gemüse weich ist. 2. Zwiebel und Ingwer schälen und fein hacken. Im restlichen Öl in einer Pfanne anbraten. Koriandersamen zerdrücken und zufügen. 1-2 Minuten mitbraten. Chilischote entkernen , waschen und fein hacken. Pak Choi putzen, waschen und in Stücke schneiden. Chilischote und Pak Choi zugeben und kurz mitbraten. 3. Kokosmilch, Limettensaft und 200 ml Wasser zufügen. Knorr Natürlich Fein! Gemüsebouillon unterrühren, aufkochen und 3-5 Minuten kochen lassen. Kürbis und Peperoni untermischen. The director of @dillard_raycharles was recently appointed to the James Beard Foundation Food and Beverage Investment Fund For Black And Indigenous Americans leadership committee. The fund is a new grant initiative that will provide financial resources to food and beverage businesses owned by Black or Indigenous people that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This fund is a component of the James Beard Foundation’s Open For Good campaign. The campaign launched in April to help rebuild and develop a more equitable restaurant/food services industry. The investment fund aims to disburse grants of $15,000 each equally across Black and Indigenous populations throughout the United States. Por unanimidad: la Académica Lourdes Plana Bellido es la nueva presidenta de la RAG • La Real Academia de Gastronomía ha celebrado hoy el Pleno que, debido a las excepcionales circunstancias provocadas por la COVID-19, se ha realizado de manera telemática. El pasado mes de mayo venció el mandato de la hasta hoy Junta Directiva y, por ello, se puso en marcha el proceso electoral que ha culminado esta mañana. El Pleno ha aprobado, por unanimidad, la candidatura presidida por la Académica Lourdes Plana Bellido, que desde hoy es la nueva Presidenta de la Real Academia de Gastronomía. La nueva Junta Directiva se completa con Alfonso Rodés Vilà como Vicepresidente, José Mª Sanz-Magallón Rezusta como Secretario General y Juan Rodríguez Inciarte como Tesorero. Junto a ellos, ejercerán de vocales Cuchita Lluch García, Sesé San Martín Martín-Pozuelo, Carmen Simón Palmer, Ignacio Bayón Mariné, Javier Chico de Guzmán y Girón, Miguel Garrido de la Cierva, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo y Montojo, y Gregorio Varela Moreiras. Además, el Pleno ha aprobado la creación de una Presidencia de Honor y el nombramiento de D. Rafael Ansón Oliart como Presidente de Honor de la RAG como reconocimiento a la inestimable labor que ha realizado al frente de la Academia apoyando la promoción y difusión de la cultura gastronómica y liderando la increíble revolución que ha experimentado nuestra gastronomía en los últimos 40 años. Por meio do cruzamento de informações embasadas em pesquisas nos campos da neurociência, física quântica, químicas do cérebro, biologia e genética, o autor defende que “ quebrar o hábito de ser você” é o caminho para conquistar as mudanças que você quer realizar para se aproximar da pessoa que realmente é. Porque nem sempre vivemos ou existimos da maneira que realmente somos. E os motivos são diversos... Em outras palavras: para o autor a transformação que muitos buscam na vida só acontece por meio da desconstrução da identidade que construímos a partir do meio, dos hábitos e crenças que adquirimos e que acaba nos aprisionando. Eu concordo. E você? A partir dos meus estudos e vivências, sempre acreditei que a mudança acontece de dentro para fora. É um processo constante que nos coloca em movimento em direção à nossa evolução Mas atenção: só se movimentar (mentalmente ou na vida) não basta. É preciso ter direção, e para isso desconstruir, ressignificar, mudar as coisas de lugar dentro de nós. Uma dica é desapegar da ideia fixa: “sou assim e ponto” . Esse pode ser o primeiro passo para grandes mudanças. E em tempos de mudanças globais, saber adaptar-se, ser flexível e aberta para mudanças é essencial. Loira made an important documentary about the women who run 24-hour daycares to care for the children of essential workers entitled @throughthenight . Through the Night would have premiered at the Tribeca Film festival this year. “Through the Night is both celebration and indictment. A sympathetic depiction of womens work, in all its unsung dignity, its also a quietly damning portrait of a merciless economys effect on working-class mothers — particularly black women and Latinas, who often must work taking care of other peoples children in order to feed their own. “ Loira organized the Essential Care Fundraiser, which will provide 10 home-based NYC daycare centers impacted by COVID19 with financial support so they can remain open and continue to provide care to children of essential workers. I have known Loira for 10 years when I photographed her with @veebravo for their film Estilo Hip Hop In 2009. The world is yearning for more people like @morgantreks and @vanessatreks. - In 2010, Morgan and Vanessa found themselves musing over what would happen if they could convince one million black women to start walking around their neighborhoods. That’s it. Just walking. - Vanessa’s query came after Morgan learned that 50% of black girls born in the year 2000 would eventually be diagnosed with type II diabetes - a heart-breaking number that was way, way too high. - Morgan, a schoolteacher in Atlanta at the time, was haunted by this. But, as the saying goes, you can’t pour from an empty cup; so she threw on her running shoes and got moving. And then [@vanessatrek] did the same. And then their friends and family did, too. - Until, one step at a time, Morgan and Vanessa became the leaders of the largest non-profit in the country for black women and girls. The two friends from college started @girltrek: a health movement rebelling against disease by inspiring black women to take their first step towards improving their health by walking 30 minutes a day, five days a week. - With each day, Morgan, now CEO, and Vanessa, now COO, inch closer to Vanessa’s initial aspiration - @Girltrek is now 800,000 members strong and counting. - @Morgantreks and @vanessatreks are walking the walk, showing us all how powerful a consistent movement routine can be.
