We decided to use a slab of cedar with a very rough live edge to really add character to this piece. For the base we used an amazing silver color from @blackdiamondpigments_com . Loving this walnut and maple 5-Point Star! Its our most challenging inlay, but it looks like @bluenosewoodworks nailed the execution! Designed to serve more as a decorative inlay than a structural support, the Star inlay is a bit thinner than the rest of our lineup. Thinner inlay = easier chisel work! This table/workbench was in our basement when we purchased the home, see the progress pics by swiping ⬅️⬅️⬅️. We sanded off 1/16 of the surface with 150 grit and finished the table with 120 grit. The table skirt had the main runner cut out for the installation of a vice at some point in its life. We replaced it with a piece of red oak, the original piece was constructed with white oak. I had to also reform the metal skirt brackets because they were bent from some funky warping action, which I think was from the damp basement and the uneven surface for which it has been sitting on for atleast 20 years. There are several areas of the surface that shows signs of a #woodworking vice being mounted at some point. There are also mounting holes in the surface from a craft vice, which leads me to think that this is an old craft bench, but I also want to say that this is an old #butcherblock at some point that was probably in someone’s #kitchen Can you identify the manufacturer of this piece? An old logo that has part of its information left, I can only make out the word “Company” See the last photo by swiping ⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️ it has a close-up of the logo, There is white paint under the topcoat, that paint does look original and added some whimsical character, so we didn’t remove the paint entirely. The table top has been finished with @alumiliteco Amazing Clear Cast it was nice to work with, having a warmer temperatures around 75-80’ helped it flow better and allowed for easier surface dispersion after pouring. We lightly dragged our brush across the table surface of the #epoxy for the better coverage, we waved our heat gun over the clear cast surface about 45 min after part A and B were mixed. Das A ist nicht ganz so geil geworden aber „Handarbeit“ soll man sehen können. Die Eichenbohle ist mehrfach mit Klarlack behandelt. Die Lackierarbeiten haben viel Zeit gekostet aber ich bin sehr zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis.Und zum Schluss wurden alles aufgeklebt mit wasserfesten Kontaktkleber. Ich freue mich schon es aufzuhängen.
