With so much history being paved over, it’s nice to have something to remember Music Row by via Hidden History of Music Row,” by Brian Allison, Elizabeth Elkins, and Vanessa Olivarez. Elkins and Olivarez are Granville Automatic, whose new album, Tiny Televisions — released to coincide with the book’s release — was inspired by the stories in the book. Historian, museum consultant, and writer Allison grew up listening to stories of country music; his father, Joe, was a producer, songwriter, and radio personality (Joe and Audrey Allison wrote Jim Reeves’ 1960 hit “He’ll Have to Go”). 📕 Learn more about this book! Sending some real juicy love into the universe for anyone who needs a scoop :-) I hope you are being gentle with those you cherish and do something romantic for yourself today. If you would have shared a drink with me tonight, I strongly urge you to see how far those dollars can stretch when spent at a small business, community fundraiser, or local jail support group instead. A couple incredibly worthy organizations I’ve donated to this week are @reclaimtheblock & @assatasdaughtersig ~ Keep on fighting that great fight. In honor of our 111th birthday coming up — we are taking a trip down memory lane to learn a bit about our incredible history. Lets start at the very beginning… Pieter Christian Richard (P.C.) was born in Amsterdam, Holland in 1880. On May 31, 1899, at 18 years old, he stepped off a 4,500-ton steamship and walked down the gangway to settle in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, NY in pursuit of the American Dream. After delivering milk by horse and buggy, P.C. started a part-time home repair business of his own in Bensonhurst. Eventually, the business had grown so much that P.C. leveraged it into his own hardware store in 1909… and something else happened that year, too! P.C. and his wife, Odeila, gave birth to A.J. on October 11, 1909, the Son in P.C. Richard & Son. A.J. grew up in the business. In fact, its often said that A.J. was born to sell as he always had a deep passion for customer service. He spent time with his dad in the store at the age of four, and by the time he was seven, waited on customers after school and became an all-round hardware clerk. Its not surprising that he would later build the rock-solid foundation of P.C. Richard & Son. 111 years later the legacy of P.C. and A.J. still lives on in our company! Keep reading and diving into our history. Link in Bio. - @pcrichardandson on Instagram
