Day 8 Persistence paid off. With stalking opportunities lacking and time working against us we called a Hail Mary play the evening of day 8. A bonsai run across they canyon to cut feeding bucks off actually worked. Knowing a play like that had low likelihood of success, we still had to try. After 8 brutal days of a mental grind and being patient with bucks, Steven had to make this one happen. This past weekend I shot my first deer! I spent a lot of time in the woods as a kid, but it wasn’t until last year that I found a passion for it again. Thank you @spamlarson for this moment in life that I’ll never forget. Just after sunset, two beautiful doe walked in front of a large clearing. I stood up and this deer heard me and stopped, while the other kept waking. I drew back and released on the doe that was looking right at me. She ran off and laid down about 25 yards from where I hit her. A fair amount of adrenaline filled my body, which I expected, but I did not expect the feelings to follow. After she laid down, she started breathing very heavy and total silence soon followed. This felt like a lifetime, when really it was only about 20 seconds from the time I shot her. The shot went clean through both lungs and she passed quickly. I immediately thought of @captjeffleonia and my grandfather, two very special people in my life that have passed away this year. Hearing this deer take her last breath taught me more about life than I would have ever expected. The value of a single breath and how special every moment of life is. For a long time I have been searching for answers as to why Jeff and my grandfather where taken from my life. I wake up every morning waiting for a call from my grampa and wondering when my buddy Jeff is going to come back home. This deer taught me that all life has a reason, both coming into this world and leaving it. We might not see those reasons, but we must trust that god has a plan for us all. This deer will feed @allysalund and I for the next year, nothing will be wasted and we have a true connection with every meal she provided for us. This deer also taught me more about life in 20 seconds than I’ve learned in the last 30 years. Not a moment goes by that I don’t think about Jeff or my grandfather, I wish everyday for just a few more minutes with them. Good friend and heck of a hunter Travis Bowman of @sandiego_muleys just had an experience of a lifetime....Solo elk hunt, 15 days in a tent, got a clean shot on a beautiful cow elk with about 20 minutes of light left. After the shot, she went down in the worst place possible, found her about 9:30pm in a spot full of dead falls. Got her to a place he could quarter her out about midnight. Got the 2nd load out at roughly 2:30am while hearing critters roaming around him on his way back to camp. Then slept for a couple hours after deciding it was probably safer to come back with some daylight. Went back in about 8:45am for the last load and with much gratitude for this beautiful animal that will feed him and family. I got a phone call from Trav while he was still on the mountain and got to hear this story full of excitement, humbleness and gratitude. One thing he said was how he will appreciate every bite of meat in a different way. Not many people will get an experience or rite of passage like this in their lifetime but the hunter’s that understand, know that this is the rite of passages that we seek. Much respect brother!! Congrats on the great bull @westwoodsapparel @trev.carlson Story below: - - - - - - So blessed to be able to hunt these animals, such an amazing experience calling bulls in and having them scream in your face ! We worked up this long ridge all day long hearing this bull at the top and we slowly crept in will cow calling and challenging him periodically until we got the wind right and where above him and in his bedroom and he did not like that ! Past two or three other bulls in different drainage is to get to this guy. And I’m really glad I passed up going after a spike bull thanks to @emerywill22 talking me out of it 😂, Is once we got into this guys bedroom I put my bugle tube away so Emery could hang back and call as I slipped in as close as I could, Next thing you know I heard him rake a tree and bugle as he worked his way towards my shooting lane, I drew back behind a tree and held full draw for a short time until I could see him, then once I had the chance I stepped out and drilled him ! Memories in the Freezer: I harvested this buck 9/3/2016 in the shortest season I’ve hunted to date. My wife was pregnant, with a due date in early October I bought a new bow and shot everyday knowing pregnant lady wouldn’t be too happy about me hunting much after our rifle opener (usually right around September 20-21st) Confident in my ability to make a lethal shot within 40yds I still put a 20yd limit on myself. I loaded the truck and headed for camp. When I made it up the hill I drove the extra 45 min past camp and gained the elevator to get a call out to let her know I made it safe, to which she replied “I’m having contractions” long pause “just kidding”. By the time I made it back down to camp I had time to check the two cameras I had out and go for a short hunt. That evening ended with an encounter through some thick brush that I was never able to get a visual through. The next morning despite plans and good intentions I slept in ate a big breakfast and left camp late. My plan was to drive to a patch of oaks with a road that ran a ridge line for quite a ways and just sneak down the road. Well I was about 500 yards from where I intended to park the truck put on my boots and release and start hunting when I saw a group of 6-7 🦌 feeding below the road. I shoved my rangefinder in my pocket strapped on my release and as stealthily as possible slid out of the truck and closed the door. This is the part where I wish I had an awesome story about my ninja stocking skills but they had me pegged from the word go, 3 does and a fawn worked there way down the hill pretty quickly but the 3 bucks stuck around 🤷‍♂️ @ 45yds when I first saw them I needed to cut 25yds to feel comfortable. Is left my binos in the truck in my lack of preparation I could tell 2 of the 3 animals remaining were legal bucks a spork and a small forked horn but the 3rd deer was easily bigger than the other two but did a great job of keeping his head hidden for close to 5 minutes. Finally I saw his head and was settled on the buck I was going to try to get an arrow into. Over the course of 45 minutes I would as slowly as possible take a step or two closer to these deer they’d occasionally look up - @mckelvychris on Instagram

After yet another change in my broadhead setup, due to helping out a fellow team member, the Easton’s are tipped with Rage extreme 2.3 again for another year. Good session tonight! Groups at 43 yards were feeling great. Not sure if anyone that follows me has dealt with target panic but over the last couple of years I’ve battled with it too many times. I always tell myself I should get rid of this bow. I paid half with my dad in 2004 for $450 new with sight and quiver. This bow has taken many bull elk, bucks, and even 1 antelope buck. Well after 11 sits and passing on 6 other bears I finally made the decision to to shoot this blonde bear. He is by far the prettiest bear I have ever seen. Not big at all and that got him passed on 4 occasions but yesterday was technically my last day of hunting as I wouldn’t be able to go all next week so I figured put a blonde under my bait and make the next one giant! Baiting bears is one of the hardest things you can do. Takes up so much time and a ton of effort constantly packing bait. Yesterday was one for the books, Let me first say a huge thanks to my buddy @isom_rigell for getting me out there and helping me achieve my hunting goals. YOU DA MAN! It all started off by stalking a doe around 8am. After missing high at 57 yards I figured I’d have more chances considering the place is filled with animals. 15 minutes after I had another chance at a doe again, A 35 yard shot thru the grove line. Ended up hitting a branch and deflected the arrow. Once again I was bummed but knew it wasn’t over. After missing twice I linked up with @ryannitz and we walked together for 3 minutes before we came up on a buck. Ryan pulls back at 60 and flew one over his back. As he ran to go get his arrow I chased the buck down a few rows and seen him standing there, I tried to range him but kept hitting a leaf claiming 6 yards lol. Finally I got a reading at 58 and let it fly! Once again the arrow flew over his back by half a inch 🤦🏽‍♂️ at this point I was upset lol.. Once I got my arrow I seen Ryan running thru the grove still chasing this buck.. I ran the other way and we basically blocked him in. Ryan at 35 yards and me at 25 I figured one of us would take the shot. Before I knew it I looked over and Ryan was at full draw. I pulled back and my arrow slipped out and went 10 yards in front of me 😫 (as seen in video) I was shocked. Thought I blew it but then realized Ryan shot as well. No dice for either of us once again 🤷🏽‍♂️ We decided it was time to regroup and go eat. After lunch we came back. Hot as shit out with no animals moving I took myself a 30 min nap. Around 530 I got up and starting scouting. I came up on another doe and said not now not never. I squatted down and put my GoPro on my head..Once I picked my head back up BOOM there’s the same buck we missed earlier standing at 43 yards. I ranged him 3 times before I felt confident with the range reading.. Hit record and let it rip! I thought I had missed again but I heard the smack. So, I went to the area where I shot didn’t find my arrow or any blood 😞. I was devastated!!! When @b.fahnholz came home one day this spring and said I bought you something today, my 2nd guess was a recurve bow. He had no idea I wanted to get into traditional hunting and I never wanted to ask him to teach me, because our lives are just so busy. But we made it happen. We practiced and practiced and practiced more. 2 weeks ago he bought me a new Hoyt Satori and my confidence level went up because it was faster and had higher pound limbs. Super happy with the penetration I got on my New Mexico bull last week. I shoot a low poundage bow (51 lbs), and just as importantly, have a relatively short draw length (25), so maximizing energy/momentum is super important. Dad and I have spent a lot of time tinkering with various arrow/broadhead combinations to get my set up to produce as much momentum as possible, but still have enough arrow speed to maintain as flat a trajectory as possible, especially for longer distance shots youre likely to have elk hunting. Durante lultimo weekend nei boschi ho ricavato un arco da un ramo di frassino utilizzando il Wander Tactical di Marco e il mio Mora. Due attrezzi agli antipodi si sono incontrati per dare ciascuno il meglio di se. Non avendo a disposizione strumenti per prendere le misure e per controllare la curvatura dei flettenti, ho fatto tutto a occhio cercando di ottenere qualcosa di utilizzabile. È venuto fuori un bellarchetto, abbastanza performante e sicuramente sfruttabile in un contesto di estrema emergenza (ricordo che la caccia è strettamente regolamentata). Arrivato a casa ho continuato a lavorarci per correggere un po la curvatura dei flettenti e dargli una raddrizzata. For as long as I can remember I’ve always dreamed about hunting pronghorn. Today the good lord blessed me with a great shot on my first day hunting them! Will definitely be riding cloud 9 for a while! This was also my first day hunting with my Martin ADX 7, it definitely did it’s job! Makes it even better that I was able to come on this trip with my dad and grandpa (I’ll be making a separate post later about the whole trip)! To top it off, we were all able to tag out today! We thought it would be fitting to kick off Missouris archery season with our first ever whitetail Tales of the Chase episode, and its a good one.  Nate and Andy sit down with Kenzie Thorp and hear an awesome story about a buck he nicknamed Hollywood that he was able to harvest in the 2019 archery season right here in Missouri.  Kenzie tells the story from getting permission to hunt this property at the last second all the way up until he laid his hands on this magnificent deer.   The guys also get into some other things like having respect for the animals you kill and self filming.  Another really cool twist to this story is that Kenzie got this all on video to share with us. - @sportsmensnation on Instagram

This year I set a goal to harvest 3 pronghorn in 3 states with a stick bow and Monday evening I was able to finish that goal with a great pope and young buck here in my home state of Nebraska! This was also a great illustration of the way I hunt. I think a lot of people are under the misconception that I only hunt private land or with a guide, but I do it all. First up my Wyo goat was a drawn tag with 0 points and I DIY hunted public ground over water that I scouted and set up. My second goat was in South Dakota hunting private ground with my outfitter buddy, @routieroutfitting over a small water tank. My last antelope was DIY on a private piece here in NE where I had to belly crawl into my blind, that I scoured and set up, and wait 12 hrs with no food or water for my goat to come through the fence crossing. All I can say is if all you hunt is public land, private, or with outfitters don’t look down on another person for where, or the way they hunt, as long as it’s done ethically and legally, it’s all fun and presents it’s own challenges! #antelope #antelopehunting #huntinghattrick #huntyourway - @jake_d_downs on Instagram

What a day! I managed to win both the USA Archery Indoor National Finals and NFAA Indoor nationals both in the same day! I worked really hard all week at the Yankton Archery Extravaganza and had a few chances to podium but ended up just off every time. On Sunday everything all came together and I pulled off some good rounds and kept my cool in the shootoff. The confidence I have in my equipment right now is unbelievable. As long as I keep my mental game on point the bow just does the rest for me. It has been a bizarre year so far but still managed to get some shooting in. Was able to shoot USA Archerys Indoor Nationals, Target Nationals and US Open and well as NFAA indoor sectionals. I was fortunate enough to take home the win at indoor Nationals, Target Nationals, NFAA sectionals and second in the US Open. Was also fortunate enough to get a couple World Archery target World records. This was the first year that World Archery adopted world records for barebow for Target and Indoors. 22 elk a year. Thats how many elk a wolf will kill on average. Dont be one the people the complains about the wolf problem yet doesnt actively hunt them or worse yet... Doesnt even buy a tag! We have a duty as sportsmen to to help build back our deer and elk heards! In my opinion they are the hardest animal in Idaho to hunt. But that isnt an excuse to not try! And if youre out hunting deer or elk without a tag or two in your pocket youre just an idiot! You never know when youre gonna be in the right place at the right time! As I watched him with a pile of deer for a couple hours with swirling winds and no chance to make a good approach in I just sat back and waited.. as the sun was setting on the horizon Makani started to blow down the mountain.. this buck then started to branch off of the herd..
