“Smoke em, if you got em.” There’s a few times in which our smoker went out or we forgot our smoker back home and we are an hour away and those inspections were memorable... because they were horrible. Bees have an amazing sense of smell and they also use smell to communicate. We use smoke to help our girls associate the smell of intrusion with the smell of smoke (hopefully when we are suited up before hand) and not the smell of us as...well, us. With our perfumes, sweat, smelly armpits—both good and bad—and such, the last thing you want is for your bees to associate your smell with danger, invasion, intrusion or disturbance. Because once they smell it, there’s no undoing that. The other reason we use smoke is because bees communicate through scent. And their alarm pheromone smells like bananas. Using smoke keeps your girls from smelling bananas and going bananas. Essentially like putting a hand over their mouths and calmly whispering to them “shhhhh.” Less panic, less stings, less stress for us and the bees which results in more patience, slower movements and more care given while doing an inspection. 🐝LA DANZA DE LA ABEJA🐝 La danza de la abeja es un GPS biológico que estas tienen, y este les permite saber la localización del sol, flores y sus respectivos ángulos y distancias . Esta danza consiste en una serie de desplazamientos y movimientos que sus compañeras observan e interpretan. Lado o dirección el cual se ejecuta la danza se localiza las flores y su respectiva distancia, midiendo la durabilidad del movimiento. El sol se localiza dependiendo de la dirección de la danza permitiendoles saber dentro de la colmena los cambios de estaciones y latitudes del sol. Las abejas usan su reloj interno para ajustar el movimiento del sol en el cielo, permitiéndoles a sus compañeras que siempre sepan la dirección correcta de la fuente de alimento, este el sol presente o no. Ejemplo: El ángulo donde esta ejecuta su danza, si son 65° hacia la fuente de comida, serán 65° hacia el sol, se aplica el mismo procedimiento si la danza es para arriba, abajo y para ambos lados. Hay dos tipos de danzas. La danza circular significa que la fuente se alimento esta cerca de la colmena. Honey supers are all off now and with some nice weather this week we can do a mite treatment. Our honey is going fast but you can still get in touch with us to pick up at the farm and we now take electronic payment.
