Be cautious around running water, thick brush or high wind that may mask your presence. Bear bells are not recommended as the high-pitched tinkle does not travel as far and is not recognized as a human. đ»Be aware of your surroundings and do not use headphones when hiking, biking or running in bear country. đ»Manage your attractants and never put someone else at risk by leaving organics behind. Pack out what you pack in. Tossing organics (apple cores and banana peels) can attract wildlife to a roadside which may result in a vehicle collision. đ»Avoid hiking alone. Travelling with another person results in more noise and may also help dissuade a bear from approaching. đ» Keep pets leashed or under control when in bear country. In a review of black bear attacks, dogs were involved in over 50% of black bear inflicted injuries on humans*. Dogs may be perceived as a potential threat or prey. đ» Use extra caution in bear habitat and where sightlines are poor. It was incredible to be so close to them without having to use a hide. A credit to Thomas hard work getting this family used to him and trusting him for the last few years that he has been visiting them. I decided after seeing a nice ridge on one of the sett entrances that i wanted to get a nice back-lit image. Setting up one single off camera flash positioned behind the entrance was the best option for this shot. A real-life Mama Bear! We were heading back towards the gate during our morning drive when out popped these three Sloth Bears, a mother and two babies. We immediately turned our engine off to not scare them off, and noticed that the mother looked disturbed. They walked right towards us - it seemed like she had been spooked by something in the bushes. The road was quite narrow and had rocks on either side, so we were quietly assessing how they would get passed us. They ended up walking right by the jeep, so much so that at one point, because of the rocks, they were almost level with our seats! We kept still and quiet to not stress her out anymore; we were sure this mama bear would do anything to keep her babies safe. Once they crossed the vehicle, the mother turned to keep an eye on us, and to assess the threat around her. She soon turned back to her babies and scampered down the path, towards a water hole. We didnât follow her to give her peace of mind, and instead tried to find what had spooked her, but had no luck. As you can see, he is exhausted from the stress of being separated from his mum; also we donât know how long he was stuck in the mud before he was found. The security team have been searching for his mother for the last couple of days but a reunion hasnât happened yet. We need your help, please, for emergency helicopter and vet expenses, as follows;1. The STS Team In Mozambique collaborate with @peaceparks and @anacconservacao to treat an Injured Elephant in the remote Zinave National Park {ZNP} Last week the anti-poaching rangers of ZNP in Mozambique, reported seeing an Elephant with what seemed to be a snare injury. STS vets immediately flew to ZNP and immobilised the giant pachyderm, fortunately no snare was found. The cause of the limp seen by the rangers was in fact a deep cut in the pad of the right back foot. The wound was cleaned and treated and we expect a full recovery. Our teams can only be on hand to care for Africas wildlife with your support. Critically Endangered black rhinos face an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild. North Luangwa National Parkâs black rhino population was poached to extinction in the 1990s, but rhinos were later reintroduced in the 2000s. This population of black rhinos is currently the only black rhino population in all of Zambia. @frankfurt.zoological.societys partnered with the Zambian Department of National Parks and Wildlife to create the North Luangwa Conservation Program which protects and manages an operational area in North Luangwa National Park. With support from the Rhino Recovery Fund, the North Luangwa Conservation Program will secure this population of black rhinos and will maintain a âzero poachedâ status through governance assistance, increased intelligence and investigations, and support to the Zambian Department of National Parks and Wildlife. Un macho de nombre Capacho logro salirse de su recinto en la Isla de los Osos luego que una rama cayera sobre la cerca de electricidad desactivĂĄndola Capacho logro nadar a travĂ©s de la fosa de seguridad y estuvo rondando el ĂĄrea, entretenido con la vegetaciĂłn y marcando territorio. Al percatarse de la situaciĂłn el personal de nuestro #parquebararida activo los procedimeintos de seguridad. Los cuidadores de animales y supervisores de Manejo y Salud Animal se abocaron a monitorear al oso e intentar atraerlo hacia su recinto mientras el personal de seguridad resguardaba el ĂĄrea y los mĂ©dicos veterinarios preparaban el equipo necesario. El ejemplar en ningĂșn momento salio del ĂĄrea ni de las instalaciones del zoolĂłgico. A las 11:20 am ya habĂa sido capturado con el uso de anestesicos y retornado a los cubiles de su recinto con las respectivas medidas de seguridad. Este es un hecho aislado pues no habĂa sucedido anteriormente. Taking this amazing Brown Bear on Kodiak island was one the most intense moments in my hunting career. I stalked into a very uncomfortable range of 18 yards, after making a perfect shot he almost ran me over. I knew it was a huge bear but didnt even think about the score, I just wanted to make a clean humane shot and live to tell about it. We did one better and got some insane video. đđš đđĄđ đ«đđŹđđźđ! đđ Earlier this week, our team in Zinave National Park noticed an #elephant that was limping badly and dragging its back foot. The veterinary team from @savingthesurvivors were called in to assist. After sedating the elephant the painful wound was cleaned and treated. We were also very relieved to see that the injury was not as a result of a snare, as was first thought. The ranger teams from Peace Parks and the National Administration for Conservation Areas have been working around the clock, removing more than 4 000 snares from the park over the past 18 months. The elephant was soon on his feet again and off to find the rest of the herd - hopefully feeling much better than before! đ Through partnerships with organisations like @debeersgroup and @ezemvelokznwildlife, 169 elephants have been rewilded to Zinave over the past 5 years. - @peaceparks on Instagram

This afternoon, I fell in love with this sweet little angel of the wild. âArlingtonâ was found wandering alone and having some difficulty walking. Our very caring Vermont game wardens brought her to Dr. Ben at the Kilham Bear Center and he diagnosed her as having been born with hydrocephalus (water on the brain). She would not have survived in the wild, but here she is taken care of and well loved. Sloth bears are important seed dispersers for several tree and plant species. They scatter the seeds of the fruits they eat far and wide, helping floral species to regenerate. However, they can also disperse seeds without consuming them. We started noticing in our camera-trap images that tens of seeds would be stuck on the shaggy coats of these bears and their cubs! She had bad burns on all four paws, was filthy and clearly traumatized. 𩹠We gently cleaned her paws, put on a medicated cream, gave her pain medication and antibiotics. Unfortunately, she didnât make it through the night. đ She represents thousands of animals which were killed or displaced by the wildfires in southern Oregon.
