Because at times, I struggle to remember what was the normal? Is this the normal or was that the normal. I went to office today after almost three weeks and stepping out felt so good, so normal. I hadn’t realised it while at home. And to be honest, staying home has been okay so far. But today it reminded me of the time when going to office everyday was routine. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴 𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘦. I miss going out without any fear. I miss meeting my friends. I miss making plans. I miss that normal. And today, 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘭. 𝘔𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺. Three years ago, @jtam1342 replied to my email and broke protocol by letting me stage @restrelae for one day. @gervard welcomed me in the morning by playing Nas (“you’re from New York, right?”). I saw a kitchen staff that was happy, healthy, supported, and pushed in all the best ways. No one had to yell to be heard. Everyone understood their role and were encouraged to speak up and share their opinion. Everyone helped with everything. Dishes, prep, cleaning, serving, pouring wine. No one was above any task, all hands on deck all the time. I was so impressed I left my knife roll and they mailed it to me at Flora free of charge and judgment 😂. The meal I had the next day and repeated re readings of @chrifrapug ‘s Relae cookbook continue to inspire my cooking more than maybe any other. Simply cooked and carefully selected vegetables can make world class food, it just takes a bit of creativity. It’s all possible. The dream restaurant can exist in the real world. RIP Relae. Despite the fact that I have an English degree, reading is not a breeze for me. I grew up on a steady diet of Christian romance tween novels 🙈✌🏼 When I got to college, I felt like every other English Major was in on some secret I wasn’t as I tried to furiously make meaning out of all.the.literature. Five years ago I started reading Charlotte Mason as I built my homeschool philosophy. As a 19th century British writer, her books felt like so much work for me at first. Over the years, I’ve realized her words are so easy for me to read now... and I’ve moved on to challenging myself with new hard works. I am a huge proponent of getting the care that fits YOU best, and part of that is doing a little bit of research to make sure that the person you are seeing is qualified to treat you. For example, your #pediatrician is qualified to advise you on #vaccines and care for your child because they have gone to medical school and through pediatrics residency to learn about these things and have been tested on them. Similarly, you may see a #nursepractitioner or #physicianassistant who practices with doctors and has similar training and testing. If you have to see a specialist, you want to make sure that your specialist has gone through #fellowship and is #boardcertified or #boardeligible. This is easy to do on the American Board of Pediatrics @ab_peds website for pediatric doctors! . . We have worked super hard (see some of my books on the bottom shelf ... feel free to 👀 some of my more fun ones, above) to be able to help you take the best care of your child. I enjoyed it a lot because it is a bit unique compared to most standard chocolate flavors in ice creams. Lastly, the chocolate sandwich cookies (Oreos) were fantastic as well. Despite being a bit small, there was plenty of them throughout the pint. They have a darker chocolate flavor than typical Oreos which I really enjoyed. They complemented the chocolate base really well. The first time made a huge differnece in my mindset and gave me such clariety and a better understanding of my mental health. This time going into it, I’ve just started some new meds (medical cannabis 😋) and had my other anxiety and ptsd meds adjusted for optimal performance and it is delightful!! This afternoon, I did a core workout. 🤗 It consisted of me digging my spoon into the sugar cookie dough core of my Boots on the Moooon ice cream 3 This flavor is part of the Netflix/Ben and Jerry’s collab and inspired by Steve Carrell’s new show, Space Force! I had gotten a chance to watch the first episode and if you like Steve Carrell, you will be sure to enjoy the show! After transferring my ice cream into my *futuristic* glass bowl, I couldn’t help but sample the remnants left on the scoop. The chocolate ice cream base is AMAZING, tasting very similar to the base in Phish Food and even having the same slightly grainy texture. It was also during this sampling that I ate a piece of toffee but more to come on that. ;) Once I started eating the ice cream I’d plopped into the bowl, the next order of business was to sample the SUPER CUTE (AND HIGHLY-DETAILED) FUDGE COWS! Chocolate milk may not come from chocolate cows but these chocolate cows pair beautifully with chocolate ice cream, intensifying the flavor of the base. Although delicious, at this point, I was kind of wishing for a slight change in pace. Enter, TOFFEE BITS! The Heath bar flavor is at the bottom of my Blizzard roster but these pieces of toffee added some much-needed saltiness and CRUNCH to Boots on the Moooo’n. Then, suddenly it was time. My sugar cookie dough core awaited me. This is my first experience with a pint with a core, and all I can say is WOWOWOWOW. The COOKIE DOUGH WAS SO GRAINY AND SANDY AND SWEET AND BUTTERY. I AM HONESTLY TEMPTED TO BAKE IT IN THE OVEN TO MAKE A COOKIE. This ice cream is FANTASTIC and if Phish Food had a cool younger sibling, it’d be Boots on the Moooo’n. Over the last few days I have heard I lot of people talking on the radio about their kids being sent home from school due to contact with COVID and being angry they can’t go back after a negative tests. Unfortunately even the radio presenters have unhelpfully got mixed up over the rules 🤦🏼♀️ * So, instead of continuing to get frustrated at the spread of misinformation I wanted to summarise the rules and reasons for them 👍🏻 * Information has all come from the government “Guidance for full opening: schools” document. * - If a child develops COVID symptoms they must stay off school/leave school and self isolate for 10 days. At this point other children in the child’s class/bubble can stay at school. - During this period of self isolation the child should have a test, if negative self isolation can stop, and if now well, the child can go back to school. - If the child tests positive the school must be informed and the child and household contacts must self isolate. - The school will then contact the health protection team who will do a rapid assessment to see who has been in close contact with the case and needs to self isolate. - Close contact is defined as being closer than 1m for any length of time, or 1-2m away for longer than 15mins, or travelling in a small vehicle (car) together. * - If your child is asked to self isolate they have to do this for 14 days - Your child only needs a test in this time if they develop symptoms - Even if your child has a negative test during this self isolation they will not be allowed back into school and they should continue to self isolate as they could develop symptoms and then test positive up to day 14 - Household members of asymptomatic children sent home to self-isolate do not need to self isolate themselves * This is how I understand the rules from the government guidance. This years Taste Canada Cooks the Books student competition, presented by @canolaeatwell, may look a little different, but one thing is definitely the same: its an intense battle with ONE team winning the title of Taste Canadas Best New Student Chefs! We have challenged the students teams to create a unique dish embracing this years theme of Farm to Kitchen. All ingredients used in the recipes this year must be grown, produced and raised in Canada. The end result will be a dish that celebrates the beautiful, vast, and delicious bounty of Canadian agriculture, and honours an industry that keeps Canadians fed. Earlier this year(pre quarantine), I had the honor of being taught reverse glass painting, gilding and many other techniques by @davesmithartist at a workshop in his studio in Torquay. He is the most amazing teacher; kind, patient and so knowledgeable(about a scary amount) and we stayed up til 3am working on our signs, then came straight back the next morning to finish all 3 of them. He also put up with my constant indecision and excitement over choosing colour palettes and A LOT of questions. Thank you so much Dave, you’re an absolute legend.
