👉A little over a month ago I made a post featuring #WholesaleAcademy member, @eugenegerts, shipping his very first pallet of products to #AmazonFBA Today, I am super proud to post a message I got from Eugene showing another 4 pallets, and 1800 units, sitting in his driveway waiting to be picked up for shipping to Amazon. His message (and pic) had me thinking about my early days as an Amazon Seller, and thinking back to when I used to ship pallets in the street from a residential address. Right now in 2020 everything is scaled. We have two warehouses with a third on the way, employees, systems, etc., but I think back to the early days when I was just starting and wrapping pallets myself in the driveway. And maybe I was too preoccupied with making money and growing a business that I didn’t stop to smell the roses. I didn’t stop as often as I’d like to take it all in. Those FIRST few big shipments you prep yourself, and ship from your house, or garage, or storage units are the absolute best! I look back at them soooo fondly. And although we’re making a lot more money now, I miss those early days. Pallets in the driveway👌. Amazing! I freaking love it! Do you remember your first big shipment? When and where was it? Mayor Gary Christenson is urging every Malden resident to complete their 2020 census as soon as possible. “Time is of the essence,” said Mayor Christenson, “it is imperative that we count every Malden resident as crucial resources for our community and families are at stake.” Late last week, a District Court in Northern California issued an order that extends the census deadline to October 31st. The Trump administration has appealed this decision. As we cannot know how quickly the appeal will be resolved, the last day that the census may be completed is unclear. In a U.S. District Court in Northern California, the National Urban League filed suit against the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Census Bureau for their August 13th issued Covid-19 “Replan” that shortens the deadline for collection of census data from October 31 to September 30. The Court ordered the Defendants to produce the administrative record which led to the operational decision to shorten the window by the next hearing scheduled for September 17. As Defendants failed to comply, the hearing date was continued, and late on September 24th the deadline was extended to October 31. Last fall, Mayor Christenson commissioned Alex Pratt of the Malden Redevelopment Authority and Kathleen Manning Hall from his office to establish Malden’s Complete Count Committee. They met every week to strategize and worked to organize a group comprised of city departments, residents, non-profit organizations, houses of worship and residents. The Committee began meeting weekly in January to strategize and plan events and then COVID hit shutting down all planned activities. Since regrouping in July, the Committee has worked hard to improve Malden’s completion numbers although not in the manner they originally planned - they needed to rethink efforts and strategies. Working with Marcia Marques, Field Division of the U.S. Census Bureau, the Committee has held many Mobile Questionnaire Assistance (MQA) events outdoors at supermarkets, elderly housing buildings, the YMCA, parks, and school lunch pickup sites. About a month ago or so we decided we wanted to change lots. We were told first our house wouldn’t fit on this lot but I didn’t believe that. So after staking it, having an engineer out twice and a long month long wait we finally got our answer. Our house will fit. Things are finally starting to happen!! Over a year & a half ago, after looking in the Burlington area for 3 years, I finally found the perfect place for me. I knew the minute I saw the listing 6 months prior, but it was way out of my price range. I didn’t even tell anyone. But then the funniest thing happened, my real estate agent called one day and said, ‘I’ve found the perfect house, they’ve just dropped the price, I think we could put in a low ball offer’. Same house, I knew it was meant to be. All I had to do was convince my Dad (advisor to all things life). He was less than impressed. I negotiated hard, he came around 😉. Soon after, I owned a cute little beach house in Bronte. The house was a 1940’s cottage and it had to go, so it was time to get to work. If you know me, you know my Dad is A+++++ amazing. He’s helped me in every area of life and I can’t imagine a better ‘in case of emergency’ person to call. My Dad also loves home design projects, so we worked with a local architect @keerendesign and came up with drawings, and started the long process of working with Convervation Halton & the Town of Oakville of all of the necessary permits to build. My Dad worked so many hours to fast track it, and last week, we reached the finish line with our demolition and building permits. Let the FUN begin!! Today is ‘Trash the house’ day, and the little Bronte cottage comes down tomorrow. We got her home! (Is it a her?! I don’t even know! We need a name! Suggestions?!) A couple of months ago my husband and I sat down and made a list of things we wanted to save for and do while our kids are still at home with us. . . At the very top of our list was creating experiences and making memories, so on a whim (I’m talking only about 48 hours ago) we booked a flight using some flight credits we had, picked this baby up and drove it 800 miles home to surprise our kids. This is so out of character for me but I ended up loving every minute! . . Their little thankful hearts made the whole adventure completely worth it already when we made the big reveal this morning and we can’t wait to continue the memory-making. Camp Hillcroft has been celebrating their International Children’s Festival for over 69 years and despite Covid-19, they were determined to have it this year, although virtually. The International Childrens Festival celebrates the diversity of children and the value of gratitude and giving back. A year ago, If you asked me where I’d be today, I don’t know what answer I would have given. When you lose everything, you assume it’s forever. The saying “time heals”, is a true statement for all. You just need to be patient. 7 months ago I met the most amazing woman for the second time in my life. Most are lucky to find love once, I don’t take for granted how fortunate I am finding it twice. I never dreamed of starting a family or feeling the kick of a baby girl I helped create. Over the past months @amanda_basham has been there for me on the hard days and has celebrated the great days with me. She wandered out to find me on the Pawnee Buchanan Trail when I bit off a trail I wasn’t ready to chew. Now she is growing our daughter, eating lots of pancakes and having crazy insomnia. I’m so grateful I met her this past January down in Texas and so thankful I get to raise a child with her. I’ve always been fortunate to be surrounded by incredibly inspiring women and now I get to try to raise one ❤️. I’ll take all the advice I can get. 2020 Pumpkins, that’s a wrap. • It’s a crazy thing when you’re an entrepreneur - there’s this push/pull between what you want to do and what you are physically capable of doing. For me, this is caused by time constraints. Pushing your limits.. finding efficiency in the process... learning from your mistakes... reminding yourself that you are only human, and all the while, making sure you are still having fun. My sister literally flew in town for the weekend just to help me get organized and wrap up pending projects so the pumpkins could get out the door and on your porches and cute displays! • I want EVERYONE, literally every person I know, to have a kitschy pumpkin of mine. I want to mass produce my products, but I don’t want to take away from my craft and my love for hand lettering and all its perfect imperfections. So that’s my push/pull. My answer to this-it’s selling a crap ton of pumpkins and then pulling an all-nighter working on them during a busy fall wedding season... but that’s what makes me happy. I get so much joy out of your excitement when you see your custom pieces, our front porch chats, whether it’s for a pumpkin or a custom wedding suite. That’s why I do what I do! Its been a crazy couple of months after returning from Europe.. I didnt have much of a chance to do resort riding with covid and I was hesitant to push it in the Backcountry because of fear of using our precious health resources. Kind of a bummer after I was hoping to redeem my contest season with media content. But, as always, its a marathon, not a sprint. Just gotta be patient for the stars to align... . And stars align they did!!! My lady @aubbmarie and I bought our first home in Ogden, UT. I visited my parents in Washington and they came out to Ogden to share their experience and help us with house projects. Finally, Ive been getting into a routine of biking and running on the trails less than a mile from our house. . Some crazy changes in life and it was much needed especially after a less than ideal snowboard season. So the house projects, freelance work, disc golf and snowboard project planning begins! .
