Bakiyev dan pemerintahannya . Kurmanbek Bakiyev adalah seorang mantan presiden Kyrgyzstan untuk periode 2005-2010. Ia lahir di Masadan, Soviet Kyrgyzstan pada tanggal 1 Agustus 1949 . Bakiyev mulai berkuasa semenjak digulingkannya presiden Askar Akayev dalam Revolusi Tulip, 23 Maret 2005. Pemicunya adalah kekesalan rakyat Kyrgyzstan terhadap merajalelanya korupsi dan nepotisme di rezim Akayev. Saat itu puluhan ribu rakyat Kyrgyzstan berdemonstrasi di ibukota Bishkek dan merebut tempat² vital seperti kantor pemerintah dll. Kuatnya tekanan membuat Akayev mengundurkan diri dan lari ke Russia . Awalnya Bakiyev dianggap sebagai agen perubahan oleh rakyat Kyrgyzstan. Namun, seperti tipikal pemimpin lupa darat lainnya janji² revolusioner yang dia bawakan seperti reformasi dan anti korupsi dilupakannya waktu menjabat. Rezim Bakiyev tetap saja seperti pendahulunya, sama-sama otoriter dengan korupsi dan nepotisme yang merajalela. Rezim Bakiyev juga membangun koneksi dengan bisnis perdagangan narkoba . Rakyat Kyrgyzstan banyak yang kecewa terhadap pemerintahan Bakiyev, memulai Revolusi kedua. 7 April 2010, setelah bentrokan berdarah di Bishkek rezim Bakiyev berhasil digulingkan. Sama seperti Akayev, Bakiyev juga kabur keluar negeri waktu digulingkan. Bedanya kalau Akayev lari ke Russia sedangkan Bakiyev ke Belarusia . Fun fact : Akayev sekarang jadi dosen di Universitas Negeri Moskow dan Bakiyev jadi dikabarkan warga negara Belarus pada tahun 2012 .
