This is Fasil Ghebbi Royal Enclosure is the remains of a fortress city in Gondar, Ethiopia. It was founded in the 17th century by Emperor Fasilides (Fasil) and was the home of Ethiopias emperors. Its unique architecture shows Nubian style influences. The site became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. The complex of buildings includes Fasilides castle, Iyasu Is palace, Dawit IIIs Hall, a banqueting hall, stables, Empress Mentewabs castle, a chancellery, library and three churches: Asasame Qeddus Mikael, Elfign Giyorgis and Gemjabet Mariyam. Emperor Fasilides broke with this tradition of progressing through the territories, and founded the city of Gondar as his capital; its relative permanence makes the city historically important. Within the capital, he commanded the construction of an imposing edifice, the Fasil Gemb or Fasilides castle. The area around the Fasil Gemb was delineated by a wall with numerous gates. Started the day today trying to find some new boulders but unfortunately failed on that. Decided to call it early and made it out to Apache Canyon by 4. Had a solid afternoon checking out this area for the first time. 1. Walk the Line v9 - Hard punch at the start with a tall and slightly heady finish. Also managed to linkup this same start into the boulder to the right of the start, not sure if this is an FA but go get it if you’re bored out at Apache and need a new one to try (similar grade) 🤘🏼 2. Hello Panda v6 - Managed a flash of this classic. 3. Timeless Classic - Exeter Cathedral, Exeter After my visit to Buckfast Abbey I decided to goto Exeter for a bite to eat and then to have a visit to the Cathedral. When we got there the Cathedral was about to close so there wasnt a lot of people around. I have been here a few times and I am always blown away by the scale of the place and was something I really wanted to show in my images. Shot at the back of the Cathedral looking into The Lady Chapel this image focuses on the massive stained glass window. Gloucester Cathedral cloisters are probably the most perfect and most beautiful in existence, anywhere in Europe. These four enclosed corridors are so magical, with such incredibly glorious light that many movies have been shot here; most famously the Harry Potter films. This was the corridors of Hogwarts. Fan Vaulting was invented here sometime between 1350 and 1370 by the Abbey’s master mason. This is my favourite medieval interior.
