🇮🇹Andrea del Castagno è uno dei maggiori pittori del #Rinascimento e ha lasciato importanti capolavori nella Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore. Andrea di Bartolo fu detto “del Castagno” dal nome del piccolo paese vicino #Firenze dove nacque intorno al 1421, ed era detto anche “degli impiccati”, per un suo affresco giovanile nel Palazzo di Giustizia di Firenze raffigurante traditori della #Repubblica impiccati. Ebbe uno stile personalissimo: le sue figure sembrano sculture di pietra o di metallo; esse sono rese in forte chiaroscuro plastico con estremo naturalismo ed entro ardite prospettive. In #Cattedrale dipinse l’enorme monumento equestre per il capitano di ventura Niccolò da Tolentino (1456; 8,33x5,12 m), che a capo delle truppe fiorentine vinse i senesi nella Battaglia di San Romano nel 1432. Intorno al 1445 Andrea disegnò anche le vetrate circolari del tamburo della cupola raffiguranti la #Deposizione e l’#Ascensione di #Cristo. Morì a Firenze nel 1457. …. 🌍Andrea del Castagno is one of the greatest painters of the #Renaissance and left important masterpieces in the Florence #Cathedral. Andrea di Bartolo was called del Castagno from the name of the small town near #Florence where he was born around 1421; He was also known as Andrea of the hangmen, because in his youthness he had painted on the Palace of Justice of Florence traitors of the #Republic as hanged men. He had a very personal style: his figures look like #sculptures in stone or metal; they are rendered in strong plastic chiaroscuro with extreme naturalism and within bold perspectives. For the Cathedral he painted the gigantic equestrian monument to the captain of war Niccolò da Tolentino (1456; 8.33x5.12 m), who led Florentine troops and defeated the Sienese in Battle of San Romano in 1432. Around 1445 Andrea also designed the circular stained windows of the drum of the dome depicting the #Deposition and the #Ascension of #Christ. We hope that, even in the midst of disappointment and letting go, there will be new opportunities and insights. In the spirit of the New Year and the possibilities that may emerge from the chaos of our current situation, we share Creation #3 by @Susan.Schwalb. This work from 1987 is part of a series inspired by the celebrated 14th-century Sarajevo Haggadah. Schwalb was drawn to illuminations representing the creation of the world. In this work, images of the sun and the moon, of land and water, emerge from a luminous gold leaf void.
