It feels like everyone on the planet is announcing their pregnancy. It really is a beautiful, wonderful miracle to celebrate and shout from the rooftops. However, for those of us grieving from a loss, trying to conceive, experiencing multiple losses, trying again and holding our breathe, it can be painful. . . I don’t know about others, but for me, CLINGING on to the experiences of healthy pregnancy, my beautiful, healthy baby boy, that newborn buttery perfection is what is keeping me hopeful. . . I admit, James has slept in our bed frequently over the past few weeks. I know he is absorbing this in his own way...(How could he not? Kids are VERY intuitive!). I’ve laid awake at night holding him, just listening to him breathe in and out, and it comforts me. This little boy is the light of my life and brings me joy every single day, including these days when the world seems a mess and my own emotional/physical traumas overwhelm me. When I first started photography, I had two children under two AND a full time job! 😳 Talk about NO free time... 🙅🏼‍♀️ But somehow in the middle of the chaos, I still went for it and pursued my passion. Ever since then, my journey has looked like a whole lot of leaping before I’m ready. Here are 3 things I’ve learned along the way: 1️⃣Don’t tell yourself you’re getting there faster just by researching. I’m guilty of this too! From youtube tutorials to online courses to books to podcasts, there is so much to learn, but you can’t let it trick you into inaction. 2️⃣Make the time. Look at your days – if there isn’t an hour somewhere, you’re going to have to find the time to fit it in, even if it’s free time. 3️⃣You won’t be good until you start. Be okay sucking. You’ll suck a little less every single day. You have to be willing to suck in order to try and get better and learn from your mistakes. The world needs the creative spark inside of you. The Mid-Autumn Festival is coming up on October 1, so you’ll probably be seeing a lot more mooncakes inundating your feed the next two weeks! I’ve tried many different kinds of mooncakes: the traditional Cantonese kind with salted egg yolk and red bean paste or lotus seed paste, the thousand-layer Taiwanese kind filled with taro paste, but my favorite is this snowskin version made with rice flour. They’re just so much lighter than the other dense, dry kinds and the skin literally melts in your mouth! I ended up putting a chocolate chip passion fruit cake truffle in these, and they’re quite possibly the best mooncakes I’ve ever tasted. The recipe for these is on my blog. Check out @eatchofood, @mellyeatsworld, @hellolisalin, and @tworedbowls for more traditional versions, but honestly you’re better off just going to an Asian grocery store and buying them from the store like my family always did. - @joyosity on Instagram

It’s the last day of Childhood Cancer Awareness month. I would have posted earlier, but once again, cancer took over our lives and we spent 10 hours at the hospital today. Margot is ok and we are both exhausted. We’ve all heard stories of this happening to other families. We think about how sad it is but you never think it’ll be you. I donated and did what I could to help others share their stories on The Everygirl and The Everymom but never thought I’d be a “cancer mom” 💔 Childhood cancer is not rare and it doesn’t just happen to “other people” — it’s happening to me. To my baby. Over 300 children are diagnosed every day. Only 4% of the billions of dollars the government spends on cancer research goes to childhood cancer. That is not enough. The drugs are so strong and can be ruthless. If you saw what I saw on the oncology floor, you’d do something. We NEED better options for our babies. Together, we’ve raised over $57,000 for cancer research and to help families who need assistance while going through treatment. This week has been really hard for us. There’s no way to explain the importance of life-saving medication to a two year old and after struggling to give Margot her medication, she had an NG tube (tube in her nose to give her meds) placed this morning. I don’t like sharing anything too medical but this happens a lot and it’s our reality. The procedure was better than I imagined and we actually had a pretty decent day, but we wanted to make sure she didn’t mess with it, so we spent the day there. We weren’t admitted so we could walk around, so we were gone from 2-6:30PM. We went for a walk, had a car picnic, watched some of Moana, and then went back for her final dose and then...home! After walking in the door at 8:30PM (bedtime is usually 7) Margot asked if she could play “just for a tiny little bit” because she just wants to be a kid. So we played. This isn’t fair and we’re doing what we can to make the best of it, and fundraising to make a difference. Please consider making a donation as this month comes to an end. Since posting about Sienna’s Hip dysplasia I have had lots of messages from other parents who are going through the same thing. I want to share a few products which made life easier for us while adapting to a new normal - Firstly its hard to dress your baby but @marksandspencer do a great range of basics which are specially made to fit around a pavlik harness. I ordered lots of vests and sienna lived in these or if we were going out I found going a size up for dresses worked well. Sienna was used to being swaddled so getting her to sleep was a challenge at first, @lovetodream_uk make sleeping bags designed to fit around the harness which we found really useful. It feels weird holding your baby in their new frog like position and she wanted to be held a lot when the harness first went on, we used a hip seat from @hippychickbaby which is especially great for guys who tend to have narrower hips. While I was still breast feeding Sienna I used the Koala position and once she moved onto formula I found it easiest to feed her in a @babybjorn chair. To help keep her upright after feeds I got a baby bean bag from @doomoo_official which I put under her play mat, she seemed to hate being put flat on her back while in the harness so this turned out to be really useful and she still loves it now. We were very lucky it was spotted early and Sienna only had to wear the harness for 6 weeks. I am so grateful to the NHS and the lovely Paediatric team at Chelsea and Westminster hospital who we saw once a week for check ups and scans. For anyone else going through it all I can say is once you are past the first few days its gets a lot less daunting and if you need advice @stepscharityworldwide charity is a great source of information. The cuddles when the harness comes off are the best feeling ever and I appreciate them even more now #hipdysplasiaawareness 💗 - @milliemackintosh on Instagram

Life is such a wonderful gift. Bringing in life is by far the most overwhelmingly powerful thing I’ve ever and will ever do, I’m convinced. To partake in creation, to be chosen to bring about the miracle, is such a rich gift. Incomprehensibly so. And yet, the gift surpasses labor and delivery. It transcends that initial hold, that first night in the hospital then at home, and extends into the commonalities of our everyday. It’s a daily reminder of how life is good, life is miraculous, life is abundant. I think culture has a way of attempting to disrupt the beauty of pregnancy and parenting with fear. In various forms like finances, health, age, responsibility, appearance, purpose. We make it about ourselves— we make life about our plans and attempt to hang tight to them, not realizing the very hidden truth of just how much more enriching life is when shared. Babies enhance life. They disrupt our plans for our own good— I think that’s part of the enhancing factor. (We have to take the time to pause, feed them, hold them. Sometimes that literally requires putting your phone down, a very countercultural act). Our best memories aren’t from that one time we watched a video on YouTube. They aren’t when we shared that post on our Instagram story. It’s real life, real time, phone down, WITH people. The past 365 days have certainly included our fair share of challenges. But beyond any other year, this has been the largest accumulation of joyful moments than any one before— thanks to this little man. Newborn snuggles and jammies, long strolls, coffee outings, Disney+ rainy days in bed, putt putt in the baby carrier, Christmas tree shopping. So many good things, so many shared experiences we wouldn’t have had otherwise. Happy birthday, OG. We love you so. We love what you so innocently teach us about the world and about our Father. Andy had to be put to sleep to have an abscess removed today. It was a quick procedure and everything went awesome! Before the procedure I reminded (several) nurses and doctors how cute this baby was, and maybe even mentioned that they were “lucky to be able to spend time with him.” I might be loosing it but these babies are so special and I love them. TRAILS & PARKS TUESDAY Today’s Trails & Parks Spotlight highlights the Bunny Bradley Trail, named after Draper resident Elizabeth “Bunny” Bradley. The trail has a flat and easy track for beginners. A distance of 2,682 feet, and a gentle slope of only a 106-ft climb, it also provides a connection to the Saddler tracks in the Corner Canyon riding area. Bunny Bradley passed away tragically in 2010, when she was struck by a vehicle while riding her bike with friends along Highland Drive in Draper. The young mother and fitness enthusiast had given birth to her youngest daughter four months earlier, but was already in training for a triathlon. She was 29 years old. Bunny’s family and friends raised $50K for this trail in her honor, and in the hopes the trail will inspire others to get fit. After being home since March with no travel plans, we decided to do a staycation! Summer is in full swing and we’re all dreaming of some type of a getaway. Long distance trips are fun and exciting, you get to see new sites and explore the far corners of the world. Although, we’ve found that adventure and beauty can be found in our own neighborhood. We ended up booking the dreamiest @vrbo we could find, about an hour drive from our home. Think waterfront access - tropical bungalow, perfect surfing waves the entire family can enjoy, open kitchen + living room for fixing our meals, a huge yard for the kids to enjoy, space to relax once our kids go to bed, beautiful views and cleanliness standards met by the owner. We were so excited to have a mini vacation away from home and spend some quality time with each other. As we celebrate #NeonatalNursesWeek, Taylor and Berkleigh want to share their story and appreciation for our NICU team! After going into labor at just 29 weeks, Taylor was flown via LifeFlight from Bullhead City to Sunrise Children’s Hospital. Upon arrival, Taylor delivered baby Berkleigh who weighed two pounds and 11 ounces. After spending six weeks in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Berkleigh was discharged Thursday, Sept. 17 and is now home in Bullhead City. Congratulations to both of them! Today seemed like a fitting day to share this story. Robert “Spive” Pfister’s family remembers him as an enigma having lived a full and complicated life punctuated by a hard fought battle with cancer. While sick, one of his son’s asked him a favor-- to write the most important piece of advice he could give on a sheet of paper. “Our entire family gathered as he came home from one of his last treatments at the hospital,” Robert’s granddaughter, Whitney told us. “A t-shirt was made for each family member and we greeted my grandfather at home, all of us wearing his piece of advice.” ’Do good’ is forever my familys mantra,” Whitney said. She commissioned this photograph to bring her grandfather’s advice into her own home so that she could raise her family to know it. 1️⃣ week old with our newborn 👶🏻❤️ What I’m doing differently second time around💫: 👶🏼 Cleared my schedule (other than also chasing my toddler around 🤣) and taken a media break: I’ve let myself SNUGGLE with him! 🤱🏼 - Lots of moms have trouble with this since we are used to getting things done✅! -This time is SO BRIEF and you will thank yourself later for taking time to rest and feed on demand to establish breastfeeding (if this is one of your goals) 👶🏻 ASK for help: I have definitely had my mom and my husband help keep the house clean , feed us, and help take care of our toddler while I feed and take a nap in between. 👶🏽 I started using the @haakaausa the day I got home from the hospital and it’s been amazing for my milk supply! I recommend it for any mom who is trying to breastfeed! 👶🏻 Also highly recommend The Snoo (@happiest_baby ) for the early newborn period! He still wakes up every 2 -3 hours to feed but will actually sleep 2-3 hour stretches which was way different with my first who would give us 45 min 🙃 Any other tips?!❤️👶🏻 - @drflorenciasegura on Instagram

Today I was out in our (very small) garden. We had one at our last house so I was so excited to add one to our new house last spring. I had a little experience under my belt this time so I only planted a few things- tomatoes, jalapeños, habaneros, bell peppers, and strawberries! Thank you everyone for the thoughts & prayers for our baby girl, the past couple of days have been some of the scariest most rewarding days of our life’s! I want to take the time to appreciate my husband for never leaving my side when being induced with baby girl 16 days early! He never slept/ate & watched me lay & get flipped, flopped, & poked at for almost two days. I also want to take the time & thank my wonderful nurses at Cabell Huntington labor & delivery for working with me day & night to have a safe delivery. Today I head back to work after almost 4 months of maternity leave. I feel so fortunate to have had this time with Scarlett, and although I’m ready and excited to be going “back” to work, there are certainly parts of the 24-7 time with her that I’m going to miss - more than I thought I would. Fortunately, I’m not “going” anywhere. COVID may have taken away my baby shower and ability to have visitors in the hospital and at home, but it has given me the blessing of having the option to work from home through June of next year! It took me 5 years and almost a year of non-stop shots to finally welcome miss Scarlett into the world, so if I suddenly jump out a meeting because she is reaching a new milestone in the next room (come on giggles!) . . . well, please forgive me. If you haven’t had a baby you might wonder wtf is happening here, but being able to continue sustaining your child with your body after birth is kind of a big deal. I’m delighted and proud that we made it to 6 months exclusively breastfeeding, so we did a milk bath to celebrate the milestone! (No I’m not crazy, this is a thing 😂) There are 26oz of hard earned breast milk in that tub! Breast milk is actually good for basically everything, including skin. Everest has had trouble with dry belly skin, and I have no doubt this bath was super good for that in addition to being a fun way to mark half a year and get some cute photos☺️ Up next is one year! 🥛 Thank you to everyone we’ve seen over the past 6.5 months that has supported me and helped normalize breastfeeding by being totally chill about me feeding him (aka every single friend and family member we’ve seen since E’s birth 💛) And yes I’m posting alllll the pictures including “bloopers” because he’s so freaking cute. - @lexquiv on Instagram
