Our baby Sasha, crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday 🌈 She passed away at home, in our arms and we couldn’t be more grateful for that gift she gave us. Sasha may have been little, but she was fierce. She was the strongest little doggie I’ve ever known! We’ve been through so much together for almost 18 years and I couldn’t be more blessed to have her by my side for that long. While my heart is completely broken, I will always remember how much joy and love she brought me through the hardest times. Sasha loved being in nature (just like her mama). Although the first picture was taken about 6 years ago, I felt like it showed her truest essence. I’ve been thinking a lot about war paint recently. pt.1 of 3 Today I was called out by a wildly fantastic sister of mine because I was self chastising for not being productive in my work as I balanced a bad flare up of my health conditions. She literally burst out laughing and said “Did you HEAR how COLONIZED that thing you just said was??!!” And damn. She was right. So let’s have a chat about chronic pain. About invisible conditions that impact so many but are often invalidated and not diagnosed because they are not as visible (or maybe inconvenient to others??) as other diseases can be. Usually I say quietly to a loved one “Oh sorry, I’m having a bad body day.” But my body isn’t bad. And it’s not just one day. I have struggled for about 6ish years now with what has just recently been maybe a little diagnosed as a chronic pain condition, with lots of whole body systemic impacts, with no cure and few treatments that don’t include intense I’ve hormone therapy or repeated surgeries. I’ve been told by a number of doctors that my pain is in my head, that there’s absolutely nothing to do, that I should just lose weight and feel better. That I pay too much attention to my body. Let’s be clear. I’d say 3 out of 4 days I am experiencing moderate to severe physical discomfort. Yes, I am tough as hell and extremely active and push myself to grow and be well in many ways. But that means I feel “normal” (without weird symptoms of bloating, distention, aches, stabby taser pain, dull throbby pain) maybe one week of the month. Three months of the year. You get the idea. I am highly functioning, and also highly skilled at hiding my experience, like many are. The pain bias: dozens of studies have shown that women’s self reporting of pain is taken less seriously than men. women in emergency departments are more likely to be underserved, given fewer painkillers, or made to wait longer to receive pain killers than men. women are more likely to be hold their pain experiences are hypochondria (made up) or psychiatric (mental health/stress related) than men, and this dismissal particularly occurs when female patients are seen by male doctors. pt 2 coming at ya soon 🍦 - @frompeaksnpinetrees on Instagram

Hey friends! Can you lend a helping paw and vote for Emmy, an FLDR alumpup?? Her mom Karla is a local reporter on WFTV and has helped feature tons of rescue pups looking for homes, and Emmy even appeared on The View with Whoopi! Emmy’s Story: Emmy’s current life is far removed from the neglect she experienced just a few years ago. Emmy was found in the Florida elements in April 2015, locked in a cage without food or water, and left under a tree to bark herself crazy. When PAGO rescue partner Florida Little Dog Rescue found her, she was so matted you could barely see her face. She had to be sedated to be groomed, and once the dirt and clumps of hair were removed, she weighed a full pound less. Since finding her Furever home, she has become the sweetest, most trusting and loyal dog. She will wait for us outside any door, laying her body across the threshold to make sure we don’t miss her. She loves to be touched, scratched and rubbed, and lives a life of luxury with a soft bed to sleep in every night. Still, her past neglect rears its head when it comes to protecting her food, toys and family (including her rescue brother, Murrow). Emmy is a major reason we support organizations like Pet Alliance and Florida Little Dog Rescue, and she is more than deserving to win this year’s My Best Friend contest. She is the perfect example of the power of rescue...without these partner groups, dogs like her would never have a second chance at living their best life.
