These shots were taken after a recent rain which makes the colors much more vibrant, captured using long exposures as editing techniques so the colors are a bit exaggerated beyond what the eye will see, but that’s the point of night photography, tools that help us reveal what is in the night and sky beyond the unaided eye! Most people make the mistake of going to these spots during MIDDAY when the light is direct and harsh, washing out the vibrant colors. The best time to see colorful desert features in the Southwest is to go at sunrise, sunset, or twilight when the light is softer. It will be much more vibrant then! These are extremely vibrant during the right times of day, especially after the rain which is extremely rare for Death Valley, one of the driest places on Earth!
