We want to welcome Elizabeth Burden! Burden is a multidisciplinary artist, blending studio work with social practice. Her recent work focuses on three interrelated themes: geographies, space and place; contemporary state and societal violences; and legacies and vestiges of historical violence and trauma. The common thread that runs through all her work is to look at old realities anew, to confront those realities, reflect upon them, shape them and transform them – whether through artistic practice or through community process, she believes we can be catalysts for change. In 2019, she was artist-in-residence at the Santa Fe Arts Institute (Truth and Reconciliation Residency), and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (Trainings for the Not Yet).  She holds a master’s degree in geographic information science technology and bachelor’s degrees in journalism and in visual arts. It’s with immense gratitude, humility and a deep knowing of divine grace that I share that,…after two relapses…. on this day I celebrate 20 years of continuous recovery.  OMG and YAY!!!! This morning I found myself in deep reflection around the program promises -  vividly remembering  the first time I saw them and saying to myself ; ‘this shit is never gonna happen for me’.    And then someone told me that I could turn those promises into affirmations. So when shit happened, I’d affirm;  ‘I will know a new freedom and a new happiness’ or ‘I will know serenity’ or  ‘the fear of people and economic insecurity will leave me’ or ‘I will intuitively know how to handle things that now baffle me’.    And then one day, nearly 10 years ago now, like a lightening bolt I realized…Holy Shit! - they have all come true!   Now, don’t get things twisted,  this doesn’t mean that it’s all sunshine and lollipops.  As a matter of fact, at the very heart of everything for me is the practice of ‘keep coming back’.  It is all about …coming back to hope, humility, love and community - even while dancing with fear, uncertainty,  grief and isolation. I am deeply grateful for life and for this journey.  And because you can’t keep what you have without giving it away…here are a two things I know for sure. - 20 years isn’t a long time to stay clean - 24 hours is a long time to stay clean.  The deeper meaning of keep coming back is coming back to presence. -Recovery is something no one can do for you AND it’s impossible to do alone. I realize Ive been guided. I didnt get here on my own. All of the coincidences, opportunities, road blocks and stop signs have been put in place by Spirit/God. ⁣ ⁣ I can see this clearly now. ⁣ ⁣ A few years ago, I felt this bubbling in my gut.. an excitement and almost uneasiness. I knew there was something more in me that I was supposed to be doing. ⁣ ⁣ I went to a conference called the Zone Event because I was feeling called to become a life coach of some sort.. I had NO IDEA what my niche would be. ⁣ ⁣ One of the speakers said something.. it was pivotal moment for me. ⁣ Sometimes we dont realize what our thing, is.. because its SO EASY for us. ⁣ ⁣ I realized Id been coaching friends on sobriety for years! ⁣ I hired a business coach... stepped out of my comfort zone and decided to become a sobriety coach!⁣ ⁣ The week before I launched my new offering.. a dear sister of mine I met while in outpatient in SD messaged me and explained she was struggling. She saw how well I was doing and she asked if I could just be that person to hold her accountable. ⁣ ⁣ I explained that I was starting my Sobriety Coaching Business and she signed up! When she did.. a wave of emotions rushed over me like Ive never experienced before. For the first time ever.. I dropped to my knees and thanked God. ⁣ ⁣ She celebrated 1 YEAR SOBER yesterday! She told me I helped save her life. ⁣ ⁣ Sometimes I wonder how I got here.. Im extremely grateful and tonight I thank God. Ive been so resistant of that word for so long. But Ive been shown.. The last month has been a time of deep healing and seeking direction. Ive gained so much knowledge and Im currently still unpacking all the things that dont serve me, so I can leave them right there. The heartbreak and pain I experienced was so unbearable, I thought I was gunna die. I cried for days on end. I barely ate. I couldnt speak. I bled. It was all so painful. But Im clear now on where I stand when it comes to loving myself and trusting the Goddess in me, as me, of me. -- After a tough and messy breakup with someone I deeply love, I sought solitude and self discovery. I felt I hadnt reached a place where I could be authentically me and serve my relationship. This time, I had a clear window into that past self, and was able to reexamine my role and journey to now. I allowed myself to be unseen and unheard for so long, that when I did speak, I could barely recognize my own voice, and my partner, it seemed for life, couldnt recognize that either. This angry person made no sense to him, and threatened everything we knew about the relationship. Issues we saw coming had finally manifest themselves and promises to address that when we get there went unfulfilled. My patience hope and empathy had dried up. There was nowhere to go but in. I had to find my purpose again. Now, three years later, Ive made good on a promise to myself, to start a business that fixes whats broken and finds a purpose for the discarded. My jewelry business, @trashtreasurechest is my baby, and Ill never neglect my precious assignment ever again. My sacred calling is multifaceted, multilayered, and creative af! Just like me! And no one can take that away. The very nature of my craft promises that, that which is rejected, can be re/upcycled into something greater. Its a tautology. The same goes for how I see my path. The very act of accepting myself, after being lied to, lied on, gaslit, humiliated, rejected, damaged, and broken, by the very person/people who invested love in me, is the promise I kept to myself. Hello, I wanted to introduce myself to those who are new. Im Leisa and Ive found myself at a pivotal place in my career having spent 5+ years writing my book published by St Martins in July 2020. More than anything I wanted to write a book that helps people deep dive into their money stories so they could heal themselves, thereby bringing greater joy and financial success into their lives. My husband and I became self-made millionaires 15 years ago, but keeping and growing the money was a much different process than how we had earned it. From there I became a CFP® and managed other peoples money to see how best to create a legacy for our family. Then eventually it came time to leave my 25 year financial career to start WealthClinic where Im focused on a few different audiences - one that more closely resembles my parents who struggled with money until their early deaths that bore the wounds of having led very difficult lives, and the other, more closely mirroring my own journey, where Ive always been fascinated (or rather, consumed) by money and made it my God for many years. Both stories actually have a lot more in common with each other than most people realize. They both stem from patterns and feelings of not being enough and this is what my lifes work is about extinguishing. Ive been teaching meditation, self-realization and spiritual philosophy since 2003 having been a daily meditator since 1999 and on the inner journey ever since. I no longer teach about one primary religion having found the commonality between the greatest teachings ever given and prefer to interweave these teachings into practical life with money, relationships, parenting and business. My husband recently joined my company where we offer virtual coaching programs, workshops, retreats (in Sedona and Hawaii) and membership/masterminds. Were currently launching a 6 month business coaching and money advisory program for coaches, therapists and professional advisors bringing together everything Ive learned about business, money and self-realization. I was not anchored by a female teacher like a child would today nor was I defended. Bruised ego followed by instilled fear with wrongful punishment. A cop slowly following me to my home with no lights on car. As soon as I park in my drive way, I am asked why am I driving so late in my neighborhood (9pm at night) and told if I don’t get in my house he will arrest me.....no reason and trespass by cop. ❤️💗BODY AND MIND. I’m 42 years old. I’m 5’6 1/2” (yes, that half counts, ok!). I weigh 145lbs-ish. I have cellulite. On my thighs, above my knees. And sometimes, on my upper arms. I wear either denim shorts or a caftan almost every day during the summer. I am *also* REALLY hot. Smokin’ hot 🔥 actually. I mean, that’s what my husband says and I’m going with it. I’m kind of a big deal. Only to my friends, but whatever. I know my worth. I bring women together. I advocate for everyone and anything I believe in. Courageously and without shame. While I’m just taking some time out for me on this sunny Brisbane day I thought I pop in and say hi. How are you all doing? It’s been so wonderful spending time with my family here in Queensland this past week, I’d been missing my kids so much recently these past few months and with the daily grind back at home in Adelaide this trip has been just what I needed. ~ Just seeing them together and surprising my son for his 25th birthday on Monday has brought me so much joy and ease because honestly I felt my heart literally ache with pain not being able to see them. ~ Practicing my yoga poses, meditating to healing music 🧘‍♂️ and sleeping to Tibetan singing bowl music has definitely helped ease my way through these feelings of grief, anxiety and loss, because that is exactly what I truly was experiencing. I felt my self at times experiencing symptoms of sadness, feeling a sense of loneliness, and with the added pressures I feel sometimes at home always giving myself to others, my mind and body weren’t always in a good place. Enjoying some time out on this holiday, sightseeing and seeing both of my kids has certainly made a difference to the way I feel. ~ Feeling so much more happier within myself, calmer, less anxious more grounded and sleeping better, this trip came at the right time for me, definitely needed it and in a few days I will look forward to returning to my husband with a spring in my step. And you know who is also on his way home too soon, my boy who has just finished with the AFL footy season who I’m sure will keep me on my toes busier than ever cooking and more washing, can’t wait! ✨A week wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the hospital! : ✨I woke up with swelling in both legs from ankle to hip. I went to my doctor and took an ultrasound to rule out blood clots and also did some bloodwork. I’ll know more tomorrow. : ✨Many chronic pain warriors know that there is often not just one thing that makes days difficult. There are frequently other health challenges related to medications or mobility (or lack of), etc. I think this swelling is related to my having to sleep sitting up. I haven’t received my test results back but I will keep you posted. And my fellow TN and MS warriors, my hat is off to you for managing more than one issue. …. Exciting news!! . Since the first round table I chaired on race and women’s health @rcobsgyn, I’ve been working behind the scenes to ensure the issue remains atop the College agenda . Following International Women’s Day (IWD), we wanted to ensure we did more than just talk. The time for just talking is over. Now we are ready for actionable change . Today, I am extremely proud to announce the launch of the first Racial Equality Taskforce @rcobsgyn. The 3 Chairs of this taskforce will tackle 3 key areas: . 1. Racism and inequality, internally and in the work output of the College. This will be chaired by RCOG President, Dr Eddie Morris . 2. Racism and differential attainment in outcomes through the lifetime careers of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists in the UK. This will be chaired by VP, Dr Ranee Thakar . 3. Racism and racial disparities in women’s health outcomes to include maternal mortality, chaired by myself 🙌🏾🙌🏾 Each stream will lead on projects that seek to redress the inequalities that exist. It will be honest, far reaching and transformative . It was vital for me this taskforce does the work internally to reflect the change we wish to see externally. To do this effectively we must simultaneously address representation within the RCOG and address the important issue of poor career progression for UK and Non-UK born Black, Asian and other ethnic minority doctors within our speciality . You see, for us to truly improve the outcomes for Black, Asian and other ethnic minority women, we have to ensure that colleagues from all backgrounds reach their full potential, and our work speaks for every single girl and woman we care for . At IWD I asked that we be brave. This continues that journey. We will learn. We will make mistakes, but above all we will make a positive difference. As a strong collaborative effort, we can move the dial for change. I thank Eddie Morris for continuing to champion equality in women’s health . Why is it easier for us to believe we are unskilled, incompetent or inadequate⁉️ Unfortunately, it’s a common part of experiencing success, especially for women, most notably for women of color. It is something to be a free black woman in America; a woman with her own thoughts and resources and command of her life and time. And it is funny now, looking back, that it didn’t take a lot of years in the execution but preparation; the planning, the re-tooling, the re-imagining, that took lifetimes inside of this lifetime. It took saying yes to things I secretly hated and no to things I really craved. It took finally telling the truth about what happiness looked like; even when all I knew was that it didn’t look like what I was doing or being. The kind of free I am now comes from entering into a sweet darkness where I understood that everything - anything - was possible because I finally understood that it was all me; all potential, all power and all I had to do was choose fully what was in line with the present version of me. I had to listen to the instruction that bellowed from my center and then lean into that thing until it Became...until I Became. That is was this life is, what you see; a woman willing to lean into the darkness and magic of Gods great universe and let things and people and myself Be.
