⁣📣 PSA: It’s totally normal + natural to compare yourself to other women and it’s time to stop beating yourself up over it. You’re a human being. That sort of advice is just not realistic and for so long I felt SO trapped by that concept — until I realized something important:⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I don’t have to stop comparing; I just need to reframe my thinking when I find my brain going there.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Every single woman you meet will be better than you at something. That simple fact isn’t grounds for getting discouraged, though. It’s confirmation that you can get there too. Not only are you getting a glimpse into your own potential, you’re also gaining awareness of the exact mental blocks you need to work through. I’m sad to say Instagram took down my last photo/post. Do you want to know how long it took me to find my soul fam who wanted to grow, heal and evolve? A long ass time 😂 I felt like an alien for a while because I wanted to learn more about spirituality, but I was afraid of being judged for being “weird”. I wanted to dream up my ideal life and then figure out how to make it happen, instead of just accept that “this is just how it is, be grateful.” I knew there was more and I wanted to live it, see the world, and find friends who were on a similar path. “Soft Hair” - Soft Hair, 2016, New Zealand & UK.
Artwork by Erwan Fichou & Theo Mercier. Soft Hair is the fantastically odd collaboration between @connanmockasin and Sam Dust (@trulylapriest ). They met in 2007 after both being booked at a music party (where a young and budding Adele was also performing) and ended up getting into a fight after individually being accused of stealing a ceramic pig… Yep, you can’t make this stuff up. Eventually, they made up and became friends after Mockasin began opening for Dust’s old band. This friendship would lead to them creating this weirdly groovy and haunting band and album that took over 5 years to make, scattered across the world. Soft Hair is a sort of goopy, psychedelic, romantic, funky, creepy, floaty and strange experience. Sort of like experiencing a lava lamp, but from the inside. The reason it’s difficult to describe is because Soft Hair is a project where both men were able to experiment. They offer a fun, incomprehensible world where you’re never too sure if your floating in a dream or a nightmare. Supplies: A basket, or some stiff paper, Tape, Ribbons, Drawing materials 🌸Begin by grounding, creating your sacred space, and calling in the forces of love, however you conceive of them. …think of fertility as more than physical. We often invoke the life forces as Creativity, Sexuality, Fertility, Sustainability (or better yet, Regeneration) and Community. 🌸Make your basket. This can be as simple as rolling your paper into a cone, taping it together, decorating it with symbols, images or words that evoke the powers of life and renewal and the hopes you have for the spring. 🌸If you have a garden or access to one, go out and talk to the flowers. Tell them how beautiful they are, how much you appreciate them. Ask their permission to take a few, and fill your basket with symbols of the great life forces. Take a moment and meditate on the basket, thinking about what you are grateful for, what you love about life and want to protect. 🌸Then, give your basket away. You could hang it on the door or leave it on the doorstep of someone you care about, or someone who might need some love in their life. …a lonely neighbor who could use some cheer,  front-line worker, or health care worker? Or someone who has lost a job and might be worried or scared? Or grieving for a loved one? Ritual baths daily as I rebirth myself in this great portal of becoming, shedding skins and cleansing my spirit and heart. Currently in a Saturn, Venus, and Mercury Return with my Solar Return just a week away...and experiencing some wild initiations! Feeling inward, loving, soft, and deeply feminine, soaking in lots of Venusian and Taurus sensuality...remembering that my soul chose to reincarnate as a Taurus to really indulge in simple sensual pleasures. . 🤍 So, taking a pause on the podcast for a bit to listen more acutely to what is coming through, and anchor deeper into receptivity, but have so much to say when I do return. For now, going on many walks in the forest we are nestled in, tending to the land that holds me, fire ceremonies to purify hearts, plant ceremonies to come home to truth, yin yoga to center and release, kitchen witch creativity with spring weeds growing all around to deeply nourish, and some spring cleaning/deep space clearing to prepare for what’s next...finally sinking into the at home retreat I’ve been wanting to do since we went on lockdown last month. . 🤍 . I am however still seeing a small number clients virtually which I have been really loving to bring in some more structure into my weeks (what day is it??) I like to close my eyes and open to a random page and allow it to inform me of the medicine I need, and I just happen to land on this bath more than any other and was the first bath I did from the book. TW: WEIGHT • • “You can be satisfied with you body, but please don’t settle for being fat” • • Whew, so much to unpack here 🙃 • • My confidence journey so far has been one hell of a ride and the last thing I would say is that I am ‘settling’ for being fat. While internalised fatphobia may have lead me to believe something as ridiculous as this in the past, you can’t settle for something that you no longer perceive to be a bad thing. • • The last six months of my journey, in particular, have definitely been the most pivotal. I’ve escaped diet culture and started intuitively eating. I’ve started moving my body because I enjoy it and not because I feel I have to. I’ve started looking in the mirror and focussing on the things I love. I no longer spend 24/7 thinking about how much I hate my body. • • Yes, I have bad days but if all of the above is what I’m settling for, I’m incredibly happy to be settled where I am right now because learning to love yourself is HARD WORK. To me, settling would be giving into diet culture and going back to doing diet after diet after diet. • • I’m learning that my body is beautiful and how could anyone settle for anything less than that in life? ❤️✨ - @kirstyleanneuk on Instagram
