Today, September 23, 1968, in The Beatles’ History, The Beatles were recording “Happiness Is A Warm Gun.” Studio Two, EMI Studios, Abbey Road Producer: Chris Thomas Engineer: Ken Scott One of the White Album’s highlights, ‘Happiness Is A Warm Gun’, had its first recording session on this evening. The session took place from 7pm-3am. The Beatles recorded 45 takes of the song, which had the working title Happiness Is A Warm Gun In Your Hand. John played guitar and sang a guide vocal, George was on another guitar, Paul played bass, and Ringo was on drums. The song’s various changes in tempo and time signature resulting in a number of breakdowns. He was the toughest guy I’ve ever known. No fear in him whatsoever. I first played with Frankie in 1981. I’ll so miss our psychic connection on stage as a rhythm section. We shared a common love for Jazz Fusion as well as the mighty Led Zep and others which helped fuse this strong musical bond. Saddened to hear of the passing of Helen Reddy. Not only was she a world-class recording artist (go download her music), but she was an extraordinarily kind human being. About ten years ago, Helen came in to record a song for an episode of Family Guy. At the time, my mom, a big Reddy fan, was in the hospital battling cancer. Upon learning this, Helen picked up the phone right then and there and asked me to call the number. My mom was absolutely ecstatic, and Helen talked with her for a generous amount of time. Happy 35th birthday to Into The Groove! If my Covid-impaired memory serves, this song accidentally and unofficially became Warner’s biggest selling single to date in 1985. What had happened was someone put together clips from DSS and made a music video using the mono 8-track recording that was in the film. With that video in heavy rotation on MTV, Warners asked me for the stereo version to release and — oops, there wasn’t one! We scrambled to record a multi-track and Warners released it as a B-side with “Angel” in the States, hence the “unofficial” status. Pink 7” vinyl? Pink 7” vinyl! @templesofficial have shared a brand new track, ‘Paraphernalia’ produced by @sean_ono_lennon and out on @atorecords. Temples lead singer/guitarist James Bagshaw wrote the song about the disconnect between reality and the online world - “In an age of constant distraction, we all strive to find focus and a sense of calm. Paraphernalia questions the depth of ‘real’ connections in a digital world” – and the track is appropriately swirling and kaleidoscopic, incorporating the elements of neo-psych and disco-pop that are signature to both Temples’ and Lennon’s songwriting.
