Скажу так, я не считаю занятие спортом важной стезёй в моей жизни, нет, но основой воспитания и сие развития себя как личности с помощью спортивного креда - это для меня очень важно! И именно этим я и живу - физически и умственно развиваясь! Мне важен результат, к которому я иду. Мне важен цель, которую я ставлю. Многие ограничиваются жизненными преградами, я же привык преодолевать эти преграды, и не важно, как высоки они. Многие привыкли сдаваться, а я привык идти до конца даже сквозь боль и будучи раненым! Многие привыкли к существованию, ища выгоду на том или ином поприще, для меня же важно непосильное бремя, где сложность пути лишь закалит мой характер. Вот, что мне дает занятие спортом, а не конченный фанатизм забавы ради, как считают многие. Касаемо жизненных границ, скажу так, что Границы только в нашей голове, но не в теле. Rethinking Programme Design: Exercise Selection *** For years the general consensus has been to train muscles in agonist/antagonist pairings. Push with the chest, pull with the back. This is so we maintain “structural balance”. I’m not necessarily disagreeing with this concept, but could we approach things in a different manner? *** Bones and joints can move. Therefore when we place ourselves in certain positions, muscles will lose and gain leverage based on what we’re doing. If we constantly favour a position, we’ll get adaptation there. Certain muscles will get strong in a short position, others will learn to be long. *** For years I would superset shoulder pressing movements with pull ups or pulldowns. My thought process being because the Lats are the opposing muscles to the Delts. Not only is this not the case but my positioning for pull ups/downs is emphasising being in a position of thoracic and lumbar extension. If we consider what else I was doing (Deadlifts and Low Bar Squats) it means my spine is getting a very heavy stimulus in one direction. *** By changing my assistance work to supinated bent over rows I am now training the trunk to withstand flexion. It’s very simply learning to resist force in the opposite direction to what I’ve just emphasised in the main lift. The quality and effectiveness of the movement obviously depends on my ability to maintain intra abdominal pressure and hold the position strongly. *** This set up clearly isn’t optimal for a pure hypertrophic stimulus, but it is very good for spinal health when weight selection is right. I admit I am not the biggest fan of stretching but if I do utilize it...I like to focus more on relaxation rather than creating tissue change. . This means dialing in your breathing and focusing on a longer exhale than inhale to bias more parasympathetic tone. . Stretching does NOT reduce your risk of injury but it can help improve flexibility, moreso passive range of motion rather than active. . This is usually due to being able to tolerate the actual movements and positions better. . With that said, the bretzel is a great way to break out of normal positions that we are typically in during every day activities. . Bottom arm pulls top hip into flexion and top arm pulls back hip into extension. . Take five deep breaths with a two second inhale and five second exhale until you feel like you have no air left to breathe out. . Its not going to solve all your problems but boy does this help provide some temporary relief and put you to bed. 😴 - @dr.andychen on Instagram

I have been a long time gym guy and love strength training. Having said that I come from a track background so running has also always been part of my fitness mix. Over time it has become evident to me that fitness and being at your peak is certainly a multifaceted thing. Add flexibility, functional movement and mobility to strength and cardio as essentials if you want the total package. Something I have always preached to friends and family is the importance of resistance training as we get older. Too many people dive into cardio and stay away from weights and strength training. With a proper diet in place resistance training will add much needed muscle and strength. Changing your body composition to have more muscle mass and less fat is that critical shift to make your body a more efficient calorie burning machine. No more crazy yo yo dieting needed! THIS WEEK, TRAINING HAS BEEN HARD but I discovered new capacity! This year has been an incredible fitness journey... for the FIRST time since being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2013, Ive been able to maintain constant PTs since February without interruption (even despite covid)! I was able to increase the length of my training sessions, I got stronger and could go harder. Ive been maintaining good nutrition and watched Fibro symptons decrease dramatically & go into recession! But then, out of the blue, last weekend hit me like a brick! Smashed by an unexpected Fibro flare, I found myself in bed for a couple of days in pain, weak and exhausted. A flare like this in previous years would often take me out of the gym completely for 1, 3 or even 6 months at a time. . But after 4 days of resting, I found myself recovering enough to get up and do some more gentle & lightweight training. It was rough but not impossible... haha... Something I havent been able to do in years gone past. I know that this new capacity to recover quickly & get back to training is attributed hugely to a solid nutrition program consistency too (Thanks to @encompass_nutrition.exercise )! . This year has certainly taught me that persistence in training & nutrition can in fact help decrease the debilitating factors of fibromyalgia AND Im living proof that someone battling Fibro can in fact become a bodybuilding athlete! Im also grateful to Papa God who is faithful to show me, that there is light and healing on the other side of our darkest valleys! . I say all this to say - PLEASE DONT QUIT! Persistence, patience, prayer and endurance always pays off! And no matter how many times you fall - you CAN get back up! Pregnancy is a trip man. The truth that every pregnancy is different is very much based on the fact that before your first born, it was just you. Second rodeo you’re chasing a small human around who goes REAL hard from the moment he wakes up to the moment he sleeps, all while praying he doesn’t stuff any more matchbox cars down the toilet while your cooking. It’s glorious but it’s also exhausting. I’m soaking up the time and often reeling myself back to the present moment, because once baby girl lands, we’re in for a whole new world #cantfreakingwaittho. Workouts this time around are much different. Very early on, moving the barbell felt like crap. Occasionally I flirt with some light powers or front/back squats but the bulk of my training is body weight or slangin KBs/DBs. I’m very cautious about my abs because I was a knuckle head during my pregnancy with Colt and pushed way too hard too soon postpartum, that I didn’t allow my body time to heal. I’m very confident that being cautious now and after baby girl is born will make rehab and progressing back to CrossFit & weightlifting smoother. Any movement that causes my abs to dome or simply doesn’t feel good I scrap and sub for something else. I have reoccurring dreams about muscle ups and heavy CJs but thankfully I’m patient and wise enough to know that the next chapter of training will be the best yet. The modality is different right now but my determination to learn and grow has remained. This chapter is all about strengthening my mental and spiritual game and frankly, learning to move differently is a blessing. My favorite new addition is weekly virtual yoga with my homegirl and personal coach @anna.alm.bran. While my body is rapidly changing and growing this baby girl, it’s very easy to feel out of whack. Anna has helped me stay centered and in tune with my breath and I can’t even tell you how important and powerful it’s been. Here’s a video of 85k back squats from a week ago. Is it humbling to squat what I was snatching regularly? No. Because getting strong and back in shape is easy and familiar territory. at the new farm we are working on moving/taking out walls and cement slabs so we can put new slats in. . As you can imagine moving cement walls is not an easy thing to do so the guys built this. This contraption has two chain pulleys that connect to straps so we can hoist the cement in the air just enough to get it to move. Not scared of hard work? Feel like you are putting in ridiculous amounts of effort but not seeing the results? I have personally been there so many times. You start to question if you are actually putting time and effort into the right tasks which is extremely demotivating! The guys and girls I mentor are typically super super driven and have insane work ethic but just don’t know exactly where to apply it to get the best results. Working with guys like @bodybyvogle has been so rewarding - Once we lay out exactly what he needs to be doing in an organised weekly task list - he executes hard! The tasks are based on exactly where he currently is and where he wants to end up. Having the confidence to really put the work in on the actives increasing his revenue have seen him start to absolutely explode. We had a great meeting on Friday and laid out some large changes for next week which will see a huge shift in his lead generation and more importantly his happiness. Prepare the tissue over a longer period of time before adding in load. Knee hinge loading with sissy squats. This was our first time doing these, so we picked a comfortable height where she could maintain control both on the way down and the way up. Gotta admit, recently I haven’t been very motivated to train, eat well, or really do much of anything other than work and sleep. Overwhelm is real and I feel it’s becoming more and more common this year. We all have a lot going on and there’s still a lot of uncertainty. That’s not to say I’ve stopped training; it’s just less satisfying. And that’s ok. It’s ok to go through the motions, and often that’s what makes one person successful and another person less so. Just keep doing the thing until the clouds break, even when it’s the last thing you want to be doing. Comfort doesn’t bring growth, that’s for sure. How much discomfort is healthy is very individual, but I’d just encourage you to lean into whatever you’re struggling with. I don’t brag or share things like this all to often. But I have been using social media more lately so I figure why not. 6 months ago I started weightlifting with a deadlift around 185 and a bench of around 105. Today at a body weight of 160lbs I hit 165 on bench and 320 on my deadlift. I’m so stoked and I have a huge thanks to give to Danny and Christian over @tucsonstrength for helping me get here! Incline Sprints. A great workout that requires just two things: an incline and yourself. Increase speed and power while also improving body composition. Even more fun with a mask on 🥵 • I did 6 max effort sprints at a 15% incline. 2019 was a pretty great year. I competed in my first Bodybuilding Show at the @lee_haney_games and then 6 weeks later I competed in my first powerlifting meet. These are just two things I’m proud of and are easily shown in pictures. The other things I’m proud of are the blood sweat and tears I’ve put in to grow in every aspect of my life this year and that’s not easily visible sometimes. Sometimes it’s hard for us to see our progress when we are in the heat of the moment. I really want to thank in particularly @khrhodes for being there with me through it all. “AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!” At least that’s what it can sound like in our head. Despite many saying I’m one of the happiest, positive injured people they’ve ever met, I definitely face the same thing. I have absoLUTELY felt the weight of a knee injury that is now going to require surgery and extended recovery time. • Pain or injury is never fun. But it can sure heighten the sense of feeling: - depressed - sad - frustrated - downright angry - “Why me? Why this? Why now?” And those feelings can get overwhelming. They make it challenging to focus on anything else BUT the pain or injury. • Think about it though. That’s EXACTLY what it’s doing: heightening the intensity of our focus. It is, however, up to us to choose where we then direct that focus. • It’s not about ignoring or suppressing all those emotions we experience. In fact DON’T! They are a part of the process. They are a part of the guidance and discovery. Acknowledge them, accept them... but work through them. Don’t succumb to them. • We are feeling these for a reason. Use them as the ‘signposts’, the ‘breadcrumbs’, the ‘tracks’ to discovering WHY you are feeling them so intensely. What is the injury: - limiting - holding you back from - keeping out of reach Use the intensity of focus that the current pain or injury is giving you access to, amidst an attention grabbing world of distraction, to go deeper in your Journey. . 🏗Why deloading weeks are important ⁉️ . ➕A deload week is simply a week spent recovering from exercise. Rest is not just a break from going to the gym. It’s an absolutely essential part of training! We are all familiar with rest days. Why not extend the concept further to a rest week? After all, your body has no respect for how long you think it should take to recover💪 ➕Only reality matters: how long does your body actually need for recovery? Consistent training eventually builds a deficit that cannot be repaid in a single rest day. A deload week is a chance for your body to recover from that deficit. The deload week allows your body to catch up – to repair connective tissue and restore testosterone/cortisol ratios. Muscle can recover more quickly than connective tissue. A deload week keeps tendons and ligaments healthy.
