Where things get super funky is the addition of pumpkin purée and our house-made pumpkin spice extract to really bring out those fall flavours we enjoy in our PSL. Don’t drink PSLs? It’s more flavorful by taste than I expected from the nose. ⠀ ⠀ 🎃HALFWAY DRUNKEN: This is a very well balanced pumpkin beer. Cheers to our friends up North. The cinnamon continues to be the dominant flavor profile but the accompanying spices follow nicely. #GrapefruitHardCider from @seattleciderco was quite simply made for summer and made for me. I very intentionally rarely use the word “favorite,” so that when an occasion arises that truly calls for use of the word, it’s usage will have undiluted meaning & weight. This is one of my favorite ciders ever; I am sad it’s only offered on a seasonal, limited basis right now. This #semidrycider is bursting with flavor, both from the #washingtonapples at its core, but also from the slightly sweet, slightly sour, juicy tang of the grapefruit layered on top. While subtleties are present in both aroma and taste, the overall profile refreshes immediately & quenches thirst just right on hot days in the sun. Best enjoyed in heat with a body of water nearby, I am so glad I thought ahead enough to save my last 2 boxes of the #grapefruitcider for family vacation at Cle Elum Lake. The epitome of a perfect spring seasonal blend of flavors, it also remains surprisingly light & fresh in both scent & taste despite being a #semisweetcider. The honey’s sweetness while mostly hidden underneath the lavender on the nose, is expertly more evenly balanced with the lavender on the tongue. The lavender, while always present, is not as forward on the tongue, which is exactly how it should be. Each fruit doesnt get much bigger than a few centimeters but these citrus bombs are delightfully juicy and rich with flavor. The Komasa Distillery recommends this rice-based gin with orange juice. Having harvested bush vines in the Itata valley myself I know what hard work it is crawling around in the sun trying to hunt for grapes hidden under the vines. Vivid peach, mango, and a bit of citrus is backed up with bracing acidity and a little bit of spice. Although theres a lot of grape growing in Itata, most of the wine produced is soulless industrial and sad. Real wines like this are quite rare and hard to find. That this intensely vibrant and lush tropical white is availble in the mid to high teens retail is to me amazing. After mourning the loss of the 1L swingtop bottles from @howesoundbrewing I knew I had to take positive steps in order to move on from my grief. I decided the next logical thing to do would be to drink some of Howe Sounds fancy new tall cans! Howe Sound have used cans for a while now. I know of their very good Lager and their seriously under-appreciated Sky Pilot Pale Ale being in 6 packs for quite some time. But now a lot of their beers that had previously been dumped into the 1L bottles are now finding their way into 473ml cans. Heres a couple Ive had the chance to try. ************************************************ Howe Sound Brewing (Canada) 🍻 Rail Ale Nut Brown Ale (5%, 19IBU) Im not a huge consumer of Brown Ales, but this beer was decent enough. Subtle notes of nuts, roasted malts and dark chocolate all coasting on a smooth body. Easy drinking and light enough to have year round. 🍻 Hopraiser West Coast IPA (6%, 50IBU) This beer is much more in my wheelhouse and its a solid effort. Theres a little malt upfront and decent citrus, grapefruit flesh and pine going down. I always like an aggressively bitter finish, but this one was fairly tame in that regard.
