With the news that the NCAA tournament is officially cancelled. I’m honestly speechless how this season has abruptly came to an end. I’m typing this with a heavy heart, but this has been a longggg and eventful 5 years, I’ll start by thanking God for giving me a second chance. I want to send out all my gratitude to the University of Akron fans. You all welcomed me here with open arms and showed me how great it is to be a Zip. I want to thank my coaching staff for believing in me and making me a part of the Zips family. This is by far the most memorable year of my college career. It hurts because my brothers and I have went through so many ups and downs this year it hurts that we were on our way to leave a legacy and we were not allowed to do that. This is such a weird predicament that we are in and it breaks my heart. The chance to go dancing one last time would have been the perfect close to this final chapter of my college career, but again I just want to send a huge thank you truly from the bottom of my heart. Who are your positive influences?? I’m not talking about an Instagram influencer that makes you feel like a lazy fat ass because your not jacked and have a different lifestyle. I’m talking a real positive influence in your life that supports you and the things that you strive for. No matter what they are! They don’t bring you down and tell you you’re ideas are stupid or unrealistic. They support everything you’re doing. Even if it might seem stupid or unrealistic to them! We all need at least one person like this in our lives. Hopefully it is your family, friends or significant other. I consider myself an incredibly lucky person. My wife and my parents/sisters and best friends are that support group for me. They let me live my life and support me in what I’m doing. I’ve made some real left turns, lived around the world, been broke, scrapped my first degree and went back to school full time at age 30, made questionable decisions.... but they are always there to support me! Find that support system!! Find that someone! Someone who is going to help you through a tough time, lift you up and tell you what you’re doing is amazing and your struggles are worth all your effort and your hardship. Dietary changes are HARD for most of us. But worth it at the end of the day!! These changes are made much easier with a good support person in your corner!! They can motivate you to power through the hard days and cheer you on every step of the way!! Jag är väldigt glad över att det gick så bra och stolt över min tid. Men.... Jag hade aldrig stått där på startlinjen om det inte var för min kära träningspartner som tröstlöst manar på oavsett hur kroppen känns, står det intervaller på schemat så kör vi. Han är alltid ett steg före mig på alla träningspassen, pushar mig till gränsen och gärna förbi. The world is a little scary right now and typical me would be completely freaking out in a situation like this but I’ve been surprisingly calm. I think this whole thing has forced me to really slow down and just be thankful for all my people. Our church cancelled services for the next couple of weeks and our friend-group got together yesterday to sing songs, eat some food and enjoy being together. THAT is where it’s at. During this time of uncertainty it’s even more important to remember what we do have; relationships, love, time, community. The list is endless. Take this opportunity to slow down and take inventory of all the blessings in your life, the big things and the little things. Really sad to hear the news tonight that Lute Olson died at 85. Some of my favorite memories in Tucson were while Coach O was enjoying retirement, I’d go over to his house to do interviews during @marchmadness and we’d inevitably spend more time swapping stories about our golf games. He put @aplayersprogram on the map and meant so much to the city of Tucson, yet was so down to earth and couldn’t have been kinder to anyone fortunate enough to spend time with him. This picture was from our final interview back in 2013, I told him I was moving the next week to take a job with @golfchannel in FL. And now for some good news: WE GOT ENGAGED! . Amazing how a terrifying global pandemic, which requires humans to do that most unnatural, painful act, seek “social distance” or even “quarantine,” allows for a higher sense of clarity and priorities around those closest to us. In the midst of hunkering down in a house upstate from the city, it became crystal clear to me that Robbie and I are not only partners in crime, co-parents, and the most important people in each others’ lives. I also want to make our long-time partnership more official, mainly because I want Robbie to fully know how much I love him and depend on him in ways I never thought possible. . This isn’t just because Robbie is incredibly good in a crisis. He is- not in a Mad Max, kill intruders with a sawed off shotgun kind of way, but as a profound spiritual tonic, a source of creativity and flexibility and adaptability, and of unwavering patience and love. I know I can count on him in a crisis, but I also know I can count on him on any old day as well. . We went on one of our daily quarantine walks down a dirt road, and ended up at a dead end. I’d been down the road before on solo walks, but never dared cross the “Road Closed- Do Not Pass” sign onto what appeared to be an abandoned, decrepit bridge. Robbie, true to carefree form, hopped over the barricade to explore the bridge and reached back to me, urging me on. I hopped over the concrete onto the bridge, and was surprised to see water rustling in a creek below. The sky was piercing cold and entirely, blindingly blue. I knew that this was the moment- I asked him to marry me on that bridge, and he said yes within an instant, with a tearful hug and kiss. In the age of COVID, that kiss felt particularly sweet. . My advice to the players tonight, dont get too high in the wins, or too low in the losses. I remember my first NBA championship game, I really didn’t anticipate how much of an emotional toll it would take. The Last Chip -- 2011 vs The Mavericks (link in bio) I made the mistake of paying too much attention to the things that were annoying me, instead of focusing on winning. At that level of basketball, every little thing can get to you— its either your fault if you lose, or you’re not getting enough credit when you win. You can’t worry about winning, and you can’t worry about losing—you have to stay in the moment and do the job necessary to be successful. You keep your head down and continue to work, eager and willing to move on to the next thing. In the quest to accomplish great things, you have to anticipate that it’s going to be a challenge. And in that challenge, you have to accept that it’s not going to be easy. If winning is the objective, you have to put your focus on the things that will help you win — not the noise from outside or the doubts from inside.
