Eu sempre achei que um dia eu fosse maquiar ela. Sempre admirei muito essa mulher. Um dia eu vi ela dando uma entrevista que me fez refletir mto, onde dizia sem medo o quanto estava apaixonada por um amor que encontrou já numa “fase” que a sociedade não achava tão normal assim. Ela estava ali completamente inteira e vivendo aquele amor intensamente. Sendo honesta, principalmente com ela mesma. Intensidade as vezes assusta os mais despreparados, pois aqueles que sabem o que querem ou pelo menos sabem o que não querem, admiram muito uma pessoa intensa quando se depara com uma na sua frente. Intensidade foi sempre intitulada pra mim como algo ruim, e eu sendo uma pessoa intensa só agora percebo que isso na verdade foi um presente ter nascido assim. Sentir tudo eh muito bom. Faz a gente se emocionar com coisas simples e se jogar sem medo para coisas grandes. São para poucos essa coragem. Bem poucos. Faz a gente trocar de pele rapidamente, faz a gente aproveitar cada estação do ano como se fosse a última, faz a gente explorar mundos com mais curiosidade. Meu trabalho me da esses presentes. Pacotinhos da vida em forma de pessoas que nos ensinam tanto apenas sendo elas mesmas. Como sempre digo, a vida é muito boa mesmo! In which I let go of dreams once I realize those dreams are part of the problem: . Happy birthday to my firstborn. My album ‘Lovesick’ entered the world a year ago today, and what a year it’s been. I feel so far from the Starline ballroom right now, and it almost hurts to think of so many loved ones gathered to share in that night. Thank you to everyone who was a part of the album, everyone who has supported me, everyone who has listened and let it mean something to you, everyone who has passed a song along to a friend. . I love birthdays/ anniversaries/solstices because they offer an opportunity to reflect—what did I think was going to happen, where did I think I would be, what have I learned? This is a strange birthday because this pandemic, this pause, has me unravelling every dream I had dreamed for myself as a musician. With every cancellation came the opportunity to ask, “What have I been striving towards? I have been hustling so hard—and to what end?” With the BLM protests and environment of mass learning and questioning, I am also asking, “What systems am I serving in pursuing these dreams?” . My musician dreams were pretty standard. I hoped to open for this person, and book that festival, and play this venue. These would be indications of success, and if I could only be successful at music, then I would finally be free to live my life the way I wanted. Quiet, spacious, creative, intimately involved with nature, surrounded by friends and laughter, full of curiosity, soaked in magic. I wanted to be Robin Wall Kimmerer, I wanted to be Mary Oliver. First, though, success, whatever it took. Later, enjoy the life that success bought. . And so I hustled. I learned the rules of the game and played as best as I could. And you know, I’m a quick study, and I played well. The whole time, I understood that the music industry, like so much else in this country, was born in a sludge of capitalism, consumerism, white supremacy, misogyny, and colonialism. It wants us to feel an emptiness inside that we try and fail endlessly to fill. It promises us salvation it can never deliver. La película seleccionada para representar a España en la carrera por los Premios Óscar es Dolor y Gloria de Pedro Almodóvar. Ha ganado a sus dos oponentes, Buñuel en el laberinto de las tortugas, de Salvador Simó, y Mientras dure la guerra, de Alejandro Amenábar. Wish there weren’t so many “in memoriam” posts lately. Marie Fredriksson was an amazing singer, who added soul and heartache to Roxette’s glitzy pop numbers. They came roaring out of the gate with a pair of US no. 1 singles in 1989 (“The Look” and “Listen To Your Heart”). By the end of ‘91 they had added two more (“It Must Have Been Love” from ‘Pretty Woman’ and “Joyride”). As the 80s gave way to the 90s manufactured studio creations clogged the charts; Marie Fredricksson’s powerful voice cut through that noise and left a lasting impression.
