Q: After staying in the cleanser category for a year, how did you land on the first product concept that is not face wash? By this point, if you’ve been following along our journey, you know that I seriously struggled with finding a wash wardrobe that suited my situational skin needs. Well the other major pain point for me was actually just as universally crucial as washing your face: hydration. After giving up on creams because I couldn’t find one that didn’t clog my pores over time (it was as if the gummy texture enhancers would settle like glue in my poor pores), I found a hydration workaround by combining a hydration serum with a few drops of my favorite non-fragrant oil! You see, the majority of the hydration serums on the market were mostly water, texture enhancers to create that gel-like feeling and about 1% or less of hyaluronic acid (you actually only need about 0.2 - 0.5% hyaluronic acid). So they didn’t provide enough moisture for my skin on their own. Oil alone always left me looking a little too shiny as my brother @alexparrthefirst called out on every single holiday. Therefore the addition of just a couple oil droplets would seal in the hydration the serum was bringing to the table. My makeshift hydration situation was the first thing I wanted to tackle! And of course, this first product I wanted to ensure would be the most universal: whether it’s a one-and-done step post-cleanse or simply a step within your routine, it can fit into any skin-situation! - @holifrog on Instagram

That’s it! . ✨Aloe Vera is soothing, moisturizing, and protects the skin from aging. ✨The probiotic bacteria found in organic Greek yogurt helps protect and moisturize skin while ALSO preventing the growth of acne bacteria. . OK SO WHO’S WITH ME🤩 . Mix these two ingredients together for a smooth & thick consistency. Apply it to your skin. Don’t forget that neck and chest. Also, it’s doesn’t contain SLS as an ingredient like their other cleansers do, which is a big win. ✨ La Roche-Posay Toleriane Purifying Cleanser @larocheposay Formulated with prebiotic thermal water, Ceramide-3, Niacinamide and Glycerin. Has a foaming-gel texture. It’s soap-sulfate-oil-fragrance-paraben free. Also non-comedogenic. Basically, you can’t go wrong with this one. MOISTURISERS 💧 ✨ Emolene Although this moisturiser claims it’s for dry skin, in my opinion I have found it to work magic for oily/acne prone skin. Contains Propylene Glycol which acts like a humectant and draws water to the top layer of the skin. ✨ Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturiser @neutrogena Non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic and fragrance free, and a no brainer for oily skin. ✨ Belif, The True Aqua Bomb @belifindia My personal favourite, this feels like slathering your face with a gallon of water. Contains calming ingredients like calendula, oat kernel extract and lady’s mantle which makes the skin appear smooth. The only thing people with sensitive skin might have a problem with is fragrance. For as long as I can remember, I’ve gotten horribly chapped lips in the winter months. As a kid, I would habitually lick, lick, lick, my lips RAW (to no relief). As an adult, my lips still take a beating from time-to-time if I don’t care for them properly, but I’ve at least managed to stop looking like I have a Kool-Aid mustache up to my nose…. • • • So WHY do our lips get so darn chapped? Lips don’t have oil glands like the rest of your skin, so that means they are much more susceptible to drying out (especially so when we try to “fix” the issue ourselves by stripping the area more with our super-enzymatic saliva). Weather, wind, and sun exposure are the other obvious culprits, but there may be some other factors exacerbating the issue. Certain medications and products, dehydration, or nutritional deficiencies can also contribute to chapping and irritation. • • • To care for your lips during this time, STOP the obsessive licking, use an oil-based lip balm or salve, increase your fluid intake, and consider using a humidifier at home. - @hmh_skincare on Instagram

Looking to start leading a low tox life but not sure where to begin? Start with eliminating phthalates, known endocrine disrupters of which there are a few different types in the “family”. Now I say “too often” because I’m a realist. You’re going to be in a public restroom one day with the unavoidable “psssht” deodorizing sprays in there. A taxi might have one of those horrible dangly air “fresheners” (ironic name!!) 100% avoidance leads to freak outs so let’s just do our best, right? Phthala-what now? Phthalates, are a ‘plasticizer compound’ that make fragrances last longer and they make certain plastics uber bendy / soft / stretchy – think of those kids goopy coloured gels and ‘ monster slime’ from a toy shop or a cheap puzzle play mat or a PVC raincoat or contact paper or vinyl flooring (not all new vinyl flooring though so check with manufacturer). Phthalates are used in hundreds of consumer products – too many to list but consider the range from raincoats to nail polish to conditioners, scented candles, yoga mats and even cute little rubber duckies. Sure, not all variants of these things contain them, but most do. I thought I’d share a few more reasons why you shouldn’t want them near you – let alone in stuff you put on or in your body.
