Today marks the anniversary of Isambard Kingdom Brunels death. This photo was to be the last taken of the great engineer, on board his third & final ship, the Great Eastern. Brunels eldest son records that his father died quietly and without pain at 10.30pm on 15 September 1859. From bridges to railways to ships, his achievements, many of which are still part of our every day lives and landscape, are a lasting testament to his far-sighted genius. 🎩 . . . #ssgreatbritain #brunel #isambardkingdombrunel #engineer #engineering #bristol #greateastern #cliftonsuspensionbridge #history #todayinhistory #otd #onthisday - @ssgreatbritain on Instagram

Albert Einstein loved sailing, but didnt even know how to swim. The beloved genius was good at lots of things, but apparently not the best at one of his favorite hobbies. Despite sailing for over half a century, Einstein was not a very accomplished sailor, wrote Philip R. Devlin. According to his biographers, he would lose his direction, his mast would often fall down, and he frequently ran aground and had near-collisions with other vessels.
