Luis Diaz, hands on the steering wheel, still thinks he’s controlling this broken in half race car rolling on its side... Today, digital cameras have almost limitless buffers and take cards that can store thousands of images but not that long ago, for a crash, you had one roll of 36 exposures. That was it. This one was negative film. So shooting this from the starter stand of the California Speedway in Fontana on October 29, 2000 kind of went like this... Diaz racing to the checkered flag clips a car, flips in the air and lands on his head going 180 mph...camera burst then pause. Mario Dominguez crashes into him and drags him towards the start finish line...camera burst then pause...click pause...click again and pause to save on film as the two cars slide under the starter stand, I move to the other side of the stand and keep Diaz in the frame...Diaz’s car keeps sliding on its top...shoot a couple of frames and pause...then the car slides to the bottom of the track catches the edge of the track, rolls and drops on the track right side up...another quick burst and then wait for Diaz to get out of the car, click...click... end of roll. I take the roll to the Media Center to master photo editor Darrell Ingham who processes the roll in the restrooms and sends the images to The Getty pic desk. Cyril Abiteboul, #RussianGP, Sunday: “The weekend has delivered a strong team result with 16 points added to the Constructors’ Championship. We felt since Friday morning that we could achieve that sort of position and it’s good to have done that. Obviously, you always want more, but the four cars that finished ahead of Daniel deserved to be where they are. We knew we would be under the threat of the cars starting outside the top ten and that’s exactly what happened with Leclerc and Kvyat. But Daniel was really impressive in building the required gap to Leclerc to absorb the five-second penalty from going deep into Turn 2 when we swapped the cars to mitigate the time lost behind Vettel. Esteban, on his side, struggled a bit more with grip at times during the race, but was remarkable in defending from Kvyat for more than 20 laps and contributed to the overall team achievement. We leave Sochi with 99 points after 10 races, which is more than what we scored last year over a 21-race season, which is a clear demonstration of the team’s progression, year on year. This past weekend I competed in my first race weekend of the 2020 year at the SKUSA Winter Series. It was a complicated event, one where I showed impressive speed, but simply did not have the luck required to garner a satisfactory result. I know where I can improve, and I also understand that in this sport there are many factors beyond my control which affect my results. Round 1 of @rokcupusa Florida Winter Tour in Pompano Beach was this past weekend. Qualified 21st which meant we started there in each heat. Heat 1 we dropped back and came back to finish 25th after penalties. Heat 2 I finished 22nd after being involved in a pretty big crash, and heat 3 finished 20th. We started 22nd for the pre final and finished 19th. This meant we started 19th in the final, where I had a pretty good start, but unfortunately after about 5 laps we had a flat tire and had to end the race early. P2 NA QUARTA ETAPA DO SKUSA WINTER SERIES . Fechamos o primeiro campeonato internacional do ano no pódio, meu primeiro na categoria Senior, e quase deu vitória. Final de semana muito positivo, mesmo com alguns contratempos, fiz duas etapas muito boas nesse final de semana, já que no sábado pela terceira etapa, um acidente na Pré Final me forçou a largar de P28, terminando a final em P8, com vinte ultrapassagens. Já no domingo pela quarta etapa, e final do #SkusaWinterSeries larguei de P5 na final, e consegui me manter na disputa volta a volta, chegando a primeira posição na última, e decisiva volta da corrida, quando terminei em P2. Resultado que veio para mostrar que estamos forte para a temporada desse ano aqui nos Estados Unidos. The ONEXOX TKKR SAG TEAM rider @remygardner has undergone surgery in Barcelona. A plaque and six screws have been placed to fix the fracture sustained on his left hand last Sunday. Gardner will miss the GP Tissot dell’Emilia Romagna e della Riviera di Rimini this weekend but he hopes he can be back on track at the next GP of Catalunya. After suffering a crash during the warm up last Sunday, Remy flew to Barcelona where he was treated by the medical team of the Hospital Universitari Dexeus- Grupo Quironsalud. Gardner fractured his left hand metacarpus and the left foot metatarsus. He was operated on Tuesday and the doctors are pleased with the results. The Australian, who lives in Barcelona, will have some rest this week and he will try to come back in good shape at his second home GP, the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, the ninth GP of the season. I am disappointed that I have to miss this weekend, they put a plaque in my finger yesterday and I think I could have been able to ride the bike but not at the best way possible so I think it is better to miss one race and come back stronger in Catalunya. That way I think we can have better results. I want to say sorry to the team and to Edu and everyone for letting the guys down this weekend but I am sure we will get back stronger than even.
