This past Saturday, 97-year-old Private First Class Arthur Lee Brodin, a Castle Rock resident, was honored for his service to our country during World War II. The ceremony started with a WW II-era Jeep escort from his home to the Amphitheater at Philip S. Miller Park. The ceremony was hosted by Congressmen Ken Buck and remarks were also given by Castle Rock Mayor Jason Gray. At the ceremony, PFC Brodin was presented seven medals and awards for his service from 1943 to 1946. His service included surviving a glider crash landing on D-Day, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and assisting a doctor perform an emergency surgery on another soldier while en route to the U.S. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Thank you for your service, PFC Brodin! We are honored to have you as part of our Castle Rock community. - @crgov on Instagram

I was invited to be in the Oval Office on Friday for the historic phone call between Israel (@b.netanyahu )and Bahrain (King Hamad) on their announcement of recognition between the two States, brokered by the United States (@realdonaldtrump ) When I reflect back on my time as @statedeptspox , I know last Friday will be forever in my mind. It’s still hard to believe I had the front row seat to history, and I’m forever grateful to @secpompeo , Jared Kushner, Brian Hook, and @aviberkow45 for allowing me to be a part of this amazing journey with them. La situation est redevenue critique et si rien ne change, dans les prochaines semaines, on peut s’attendre à une augmentation des décès et à une forte augmentation des hospitalisations. Ça risque d’engorger nos hôpitaux et nous obliger à reporter des chirurgies, des traitements urgents. Je comprends très bien les impacts de ces restrictions sur votre vie. Mais c’est un moindre mal pour sauver l’essentiel. Je vous demande donc de respecter les consignes pour nos soignants dans le réseau de la santé, pour nos personnes âgées, pour nos personnes vulnérables, pour que nos enfants puissent continuer d’aller à l’école. On le fait parce qu’il y a un virus dangereux. On le fait pour sauver des vies. On fait ça pour sauver notre réseau de la santé. On est tous dans le même bateau. Wishing a Very Happy 70th Birthday to The Princess Royal! Princess Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise, the second child and only daughter of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, was born on 15th August 1950 at Clarence House in London. Some facts about Her Royal Highness: • Princess Anne is the seventh Princess Royal in the British Monarchy, having held the title since June 1987. It is a title traditionally carried by the monarch’s oldest daughter and held for life. • Princess Anne started undertaking public work at the age of 18, when her first engagement was the opening of an educational and training centre in Shropshire in 1969. • Princess Anne is an extremely accomplished equestrian - at the age of 21 she won the European Eventing Championship and was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1971. She also competed at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games as a member of the British Equestrian team. She was the first member of the Royal Family to compete in an Olympic Games. • The Princess Royal has been President of Save the Children UK since 1970, and it was the first major charity with which she became closely associated. She spends a significant amount of time visiting Save the Children’s projects, both overseas and in the UK, meeting fundraisers and volunteers, and visiting our shops around the UK. • Princess Anne married Mark Philips in 1973. They have two children - Peter Mark Phillips born in 1977 and Zara Phillips born in 1981. • The Princess survived a kidnapping attempt in 1974. Salah satunya yaitu terapi plasma convalescent. Direktur Lembaga Molekuler Eijkman Prof. Amin Soebandrio mengatakan bahwa terapi ini menggunakan plasma pasien yang sudah sembuh. Amin menjelaskan bahwa tubuh manusia akan terbentuk antibodi ketika terinfeksi jamur, bakteri atau virus. Terapi plasma merupakan pendekatan dengan mekanisme itu. “Nah, antibodi itu ketika pasiennya sudah sembuh berarti pasiennya sudah bisa mengatasi infeksinya itu bisa dipakai untuk membantu orang lain yang masih sedang sakit. Jadi prinsipnya seperti zona,” jelas Amin dalam dialog di Media Center Gugus Tugas Nasional, Jakarta, pada Jumat (26/6). Ia mengungkapkan bahwa pengambilan plasma melalui tahapan yang dipastikan aman dan cocok untuk pasien. Plasma itu selanjutnya diberikan kepada pasien yang masih dirawat atau yang dalam keadaan sakit berat. “Karena plasma ini bisa mengeliminasi atau mengimobilisasi virusnya, maka diharapkan lingkaran infeksi itu akan terputuskan sehingga pasien bisa terhindar dari serangan virus itu kemudian bisa memperbaiki jaringannya yang sudah rusak kemudian dan bergiliran akan memperbaiki sistem imunnya, begitu seterusnya,” jelas Amin mengenai prinsip terapi. Menurut Amin, pengambilan plasma dilakukan pada pendonor yang sehat dan berjenis kelamin laki-laki meskipun perempuan berpeluang. Pemilihan jenis kelamin karena laki-laki tidak memiliki antigen HLA. “Itu mungkin yang akan bisa membuat masalah di resipiennya. Kalau perempuan boleh, bersyaratnya tidak boleh sedang hamil atau bisa dipastikan bisa diperiksa. Kemudian kita mesti memastikan kondisi kesehatan yang lainnya, laboratorium harus baik, Covidnya harus negatif, dan persyaratan donor darah harus terpenuhi. Misalnya dia tidak boleh mengandung malaria, virus HIV, hepatitis dan sebagainya. Norman Kirby understood the hardships of war as he grew up in British Columbia listening to war stories from his grandfather, a Boer War and FWW veteran. Undeterred by the cruel realities of war, he stepped up and answered the call of duty and enlisted, at the age of 17, when the #SWW broke out. During training, he became adept at using the Bren light machine gun and the Projector, Infantry, Anti Tank (PIAT). In May 1944, he was shipped off to the UK and assigned to the North Shore (New Brunswick) Infantry Regiment – who needed a qualified Bren gunner. On 6 June 1944, his war began as he stormed Juno Beach with his regiment on D-Day. Following the treacherous landing of D-Day, Kirby continued fighting with the regiment throughout Normandy as they worked tirelessly to recapture French ports along the channel and silence the German cross-channel guns. On February 26, during the Battle of the Rhineland, the regiment helped seize the town of Keppeln, where Kirby and another soldier broke into a German garrison and captured the enemy commander. Kirby was discharged in September 1945 and returned home to North Vancouver at the age of 19. He wasn’t old enough to vote or have a beer with his father, but he also wasn’t the same youngster that left for war. For his distinguished military career and service to Canada, Sergeant Norman Kirby received many plaudits and at least five medals. In 2020, he was awarded France’s highest decoration, la Légion dhonneur. Today, he lives a peaceful life in Lions Bay, BC with his wife Victoria. They have been married for 50 years and devote themselves to remembrance. “It is so gratifying to see how appreciative people are at these commemorative ceremonies. It makes it all worthwhile.
