Were very excited for our 2nd Annual Artificial Reef Deployment Of Our Ocean Rescue Alliance 1000 Mermaids Artificial Reef Project #ArtificalReefs with support from our reef building partner REEF CELLS! The #1000MermaidsArtificialReefProject & Gallery of #1000Mermaids as part of The @oceanrescuealliance is a monumental public #EcoArt project in the form of an artificial reef installation that will also serve as an underwater eco-friendly destination for tourism & research. I wrote about the worldwide reach of #bakersagainstracism, which was founded by @smallorchids, @badwolf_88 and @robrubba in hopes of getting maybe 80 participants. This week bakers are taking part in 200+ cities and five continents (!). I also spoke with bakers participating about what it means to them to raise money for black lives at a time when so many are laid off, furloughed, or barely hanging on. Here’s a (virtual) peek at Core Colors, @genslerhoustons completed build for @canstructionhouston, and this year’s only (physical) can-sculpture!⠀ ⠀ Genslers Community Impact team did a great job with this 8-foot piece depicting the different layers, parts and colors of fruit, made entirely of canned food! These guys spent three months working on the plans and even did a test build beforehand.⠀ ⠀ Why all the hard work? To benefit the @houstonfoodbank! Heres a little more about this awesome event:⠀ 🍏 #canstructionhouston is a volunteer-based, non-profit organization that held its first event over two decades ago, in 1995⠀ 🍏 It grew quickly, going from just a few pro teams to a much larger competition that raised more than 100K pounds of food!⠀ 🍏 From 2005-2013, event donations exceeded 400K pounds plus $75K benefiting the #houstonfoodbank⠀ 🍏 In total, Canstruction has contributed 82M pounds of food, 1.4M in Houston and 173K in 2019 alone⠀ ⠀ Swing by #understoryhtx before 11/20 to see this large-scale sculpture, grab a bite to eat from our tastemakers, and help this important cause while you’re here!⠀ ⠀ Just bring healthy canned goods and look for signs directing you to one of many donation bins throughout our space. The past few months have been an emotional and confusing time... We’ve gone from the busy and fast paced Farmers that you all know and love, to a takeaway model, then to socially distanced table service. Amidst all the changes, our local and out-of-town legends have given us their full support, and we cannot thank you enough! It is for the safety of our Farmers Family, which includes all of you at home, that we have decided in alignment with the government & communities’ fight against the virus to not go back to a takeaway model, and instead to close our doors for the time being. Wednesday will be our last day of trade. We dream of a day when we can have a front bar and restaurant full of patrons chatting, laughing, and bellowing “reeeedraaaw” at the top of their lungs, but until then, we hope you all stay safe and well, and we will see you all on the other side. ‼️SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT‼️ A perpetually named sporting scholarship will be awarded for the first time in 2021, in honour of the late Professor Gavin Brown, who passed away in 2010. Professor Brown was born in Lundin Links, Scotland, on February 27, 1942. He came to the University of Sydney as Vice-Chancellor in 1996 and served in that role for the next 12 years. He was an incredibly successful Vice-Chancellor who implemented major improvements in funding, research and infrastructure development at the university. Professor Brown initiated the then largest capital program ever undertaken by an Australian university leading to the new Law School, the IT building, the Jane Foss Russel Building for student services, a student accommodation in Sydney University Village and a multimillion-dollar restoration and refurbishment of heritage buildings. Student numbers increased by more than 50 per cent during Professor Browns time, postgraduate numbers more than doubled, income trebled and the numbers of international students multiplied fourfold. Additionally, throughout his time as Vice-Chancellor, Professor Brown was always a great friend of Sydney Uni Sport. Professor Brown was very passionate about sport and loved watching his beloved university teams. Professor Brown was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2006. He was a recipient of the Royal Society NSW Medal and was appointed the inaugural director of the Royal Institution of Australia. He also acted as the first chair of the Group of Eight (Go8). This perpetually named sporting scholarship will be awarded for the first time in 2021 to an outstanding athlete. It was sad news last night when we heard that Carriageworks is going into administration. From the arts and farmers markets, to festivals like ours, this venue is home to so many events in Sydney. It was our first venue outside Melbourne, when we took @pinotpalooza there in 2013. Since then, its where weve dressed up like Daenerys at @gameofrhones, ate all of the empanadas at @gauchitogil_au and all of the cheese at @mouldcheesefestival (just to name a few). The deep clean, clean up team are ready to go ☺️ To be fair, a lot was worked on for the shop to be COVID ready for 4th July. So we are very much welcoming the Monday opening 🖤 it will be doorbell entry and locked door. There will be strict allotted times to start and also staggered time’s for each artist. We are super grateful we have a large airy space that we tattoo in with great ventilation and high ceilings. We will be working with a strict track and trace policy also. We have a cleaning station on entry. Everyone will be wearing masks while in the shop please bring yours. There will be face visors, disposable aprons and of course gloves. Each bench will have its own custom made sneeze guard. There will be No face, neck or chest tattoos for now. One person only per tattooist, no friends family or chaperones I’m afraid. We lost my grandpa today. I’ve been looking up to him my whole life. Literally looking up to him in his hospital room due to COVID restrictions was painful, but added yet another memory of how strong he was. Good lord he fought HARD for every last moment with his family. He rallied enough to be transferred home for his last days so we could all be by his side. Thanks for everything, Grandpa Keith. We’ve had some really nice times recently easing back into the DJ world with fellow community organisations. This is a little flash back to our sold out event with Meraki at The Cause’s amazing Costa Del Tottenham. Two of our Core DJs Ama and Malissa played some breaks, funk, house and soul vibes on the terrace alongside Megan Leo, Harvey La Plage and BYO Boogie. Meraki are hosting another event at The Cause on September 18 where two of our Core DJs Elodie and Nüwa will be taking to the decks alongside Megan Leo, DJ Programma and Johnny Aux. RAEN 2020 harvest is all in as of yesterday🙌. Unreal year. Covid... This environmental challenge. Fires from Washington, Oregon and California. It’s the first year where the fires arrived early enough to affect our choices at RAEN given Pinot Noir buds early, ripens early and is one of the first to be picked. Mid harvest, roughly 50% done and the fires broke out forcing us to make decisions I think we can be proud of. The vintage itself was incredible leading up to this and I remain optimistic and know great wines up and down the coast will come from this vintage. I can’t wait to see, taste and be a part of them. Apart from harvest, what I’m about to say is not political. Our human existence is not blue or red. We are a part of this earth and the preservation of Mother Nature and humanity is one in the same, and ultimately a unifying cause. We know our climate is spiraling out of control, and those that don’t see this, need to get outside and spend time in nature to understand what I’m saying. In this time we should all stand together to fight climate change- no matter our differences. When looking at our country, and most countries globally, there are massive divides similar to here. But there should be one voice bringing us all together, and that is how to preserve earth, nature and humanity 🌎... This photo marked our last pick, and accurately captures the mix of feelings present through the latter half of this harvest. On the last day of 2019, this photo sums up my life for the past decade best: forget Event Planner… I was a Professional Juggler. I juggled the very different personalities within every family. Very often between TWO families. I juggled executing wild dreams while working within budgetary restraints. I juggled mean bullies with truly lovely, kind human beings. I juggled the enthusiasm of new clients whose events were a year away, while literally standing ankle-deep in mud, executing the final touches for parties a year in the making. I juggled gruelling, 18-hour event days with the joy of getting to work in beautiful parts of the world. I juggled matching the right vendors with the right clients, then managing the different agendas during the process. I juggled aging, dying parents while planning parties for my clients’ babies entering the world. I juggled my own bout with cancer while throwing fundraisers for great causes — for people far worse off than I. I juggled many, many happy tears with a more than a few sad ones too. In case this sounds like a lament, it isn’t: I revelled in almost every minute of the chaos and am grateful for every single experience, be it good or not-so-good. I think I was an excellent juggler. So now, a brand new decade starts tomorrow. And I wonder what that circus will bring to town… . . . The story behind this picture: I suggested our friend T.H. Jackson Huang come by to see this epic installation (even though he wasn’t photographing the event). While @firedogcreative was up in the roof, painstakingly installing 90 sails, I was on the ground eating oranges, bragging about the juggling abilities of my youth. Today marks our first fallball practice and I could not be happier (it was actually super fun in the rain)☔️🥍 Dont worry this pic is not recent!! Our practice was separated into small groups and socially distanced. Anyway, the point of this post was just to say the weeks of lacrosse have officially started so my posts will probably be once a week when I have an off day, unless my body needs to rest.
