Figured this would be a good time to share my debt free journey... ⠀ I had $5000ish worth of debt as a combo of debt in collections and money I owed a friend. I thought it was trivial so I didn’t share my journey. But I allowed that $5000 to define my relationship with money and myself. That number was a reminder of all the mistakes I made, of all the times I gave up on myself because life got hard. At some point that 5k was more than I made in 6 months. Im not exaggerating. Not too long ago I had checked out of life, I wasn’t there for me. I was broke and broken. ⠀ My wake up call wasn’t just hitting a financial rock bottom, it was when I realized my motivation for getting my ish together was to simply not end up like the dude I was dating. WILD. But when you’re broke and broken... guess what you attract 👀. So I got it together, finally finished college after 7 years, ended things with dude, got a shitty job to start paying off the debt and most importantly I went to therapy. ⠀ The first half of this year I wasn’t earning a livable wage and was proud of myself for clocking in everyday. I proved to myself that I could be there for me and do it consistently... finally. And now by the grace of God, someone saw fit that I take all my knowledge and experience, the good and the bad and teach. Some may complain about a teacher salary but this check hits different knowing where I came from. ⠀ So when you hear me talk about getting shame out of your finances, it’s because I lived it. When I say don’t let the debt consume you, it’s because I let just $5000 cripple me. There’s more to life. You don’t need to be intense about your journey... you just need to be intentional. ⠀ I’m here to normalize FREEDOM. Not just debt freedom, but freedom from shame and guilt, from fear, from anything that’s holding you back. I’m not sure if freedom is a destination...it seems like when I get free from one thing, something else comes up. But I’m committed to the process. Who are you trying to prove yourself to? Seriously! Everyday I see more and more people craving significance and placing all their value in the opinions of others. People theyve never even met before. To so many, a following or the number of likes and comments they receive on a post, means everything to them, and these days many even join follow loops to increase the activity and engagement they receive on their posts. But I honestly dont think people realise just how dangerous this is and how this only creates a false sense of security. It might all start off innocent and exciting but it can really have a negative effect further down the line because naturally one will start to place a huge amount of value in the positive comments you recieve daily. The thing is though. Soon you will start looking for your identify in the comment section of your IG posts. Seeing another comment notification on your phone will become your new high. It will become the best part of your day knowing that you are loved and supported by others. But what we dont realise is that when we take our focus off of God and place it on the world, we open up the door for the enemy to send more anxiety, anger, depression, jealousy, fear, confusion, judgement, pain and condemnation into our lives. And often the people who are so consumed by social media, take absolutely everything, very personally and gets triggered by anything that offends them or that they dont agree with. But the truth is... When your live your life seeking validation from the world. You give the world the power to control you and to crush you. Trust me I know. Ive been there. Social media can be a beautiful thing yes, but it can also be a massive tool the enemy uses to destroy your self worth & destiny. My question to you is, are you truly ready to be honest with yourself? Because if thats where youre at then there is something far deeper and spiritual going on and I encourage you to deal with it now rather than continue to set yourself up for future disappointed and pain.
