🧪A relatively short post on the importance of Progesterone: Progesterone (P) is an under-appreciated hormone involved in systemic regulation of our physiology. The latin root of the word is “𝘗𝘳𝘰-𝘨𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘮” which means favoring gestation. Principally involved in the proper development of the fetus and embryogenesis, during pregnancy progesterone can be produced by the placental tissue at an astounding 20-fold increase in comparison to the ovaries. This surplus in this structural hormone tends to discontinue synthesis in the ovaries during the last months of pregnancy. When a mother enters the postpartum stage, if the ovaries have not resumed production of P, or a progesterone:estrogen ratio becomes imbalanced, symptoms of “baby blues” tends to occur. The reason is multifaceted but ultimately relates to P’s systemic effect. To understand how, investigation into its synthesis is required. P is produced in every steroidal organ (i.e. ovaries, testes, adrenals), however, metabolism and reduction undergoes differences in each organ. The precursor to progesterone is cholesterol, which gets compartmentalized in LDL and undergoes endocytosis to be transported into the mitochondria. Where under Acetyl-CoA, pregnenolone is synthesized. CYP450 enzymes then trigger its release to metabolize into P. P of adrenal origin is largely converted into glucocorticoids and androgens (Tarraborreli, S. 2015). While serum Progest., has a half life of approximately five-minutes, and is tightly bound to either albumin (10%) or cortisol-binding globulin. If not metabolized it can undergo transformation into devastating deoxycorticosterone. Once metabolized in the liver, it contributes to the production of sulfates and glucuronides. This signals that progesterone is absolutely crucial in sulfation of molecules that play roles in neurological health, but also liver detoxification and transport proteins. An issue with progesterone manifests in liver issues, and vice versa. I started learning about candle making after Mamma passed away 5 and a half years ago. I light one for her every day .❤️ I have had brain surgery to remove an Acoustic Neuroma. A 2.5cm tumour that was growing into my brain stem.😱 Pretty fucked up, hey? The surgery left me totally deaf in one ear, with constant tinnitus and some facial palsy on my left side. (This is why in most of my pics I either cut off half my face 😜 or have the “surprise” look,with my mouth open cause I’m trying to hide it!) All good now.👌 I look at the positives in life and an grateful for what I do have.🥰 I have Botox to help “even” me out.🤪 I’m married to my high school sweetheart with two young ,adult children that will probably never move out. Why would you ? Lucky I love them to bits. I’m actually also a hairdresser and still have a handful of clients . All of whom will have the worst fucking roots after Melbournes lockdown.😱 As much as I whinge about it, I do like getting to the gym. (Ahhh, remember those days? Fuck you Corona!) I have arthritis and will definitely need hip replacements eventually. Born in Melbourne and grew up in Coburg . I’m the youngest of four siblings.Mamma called me her Kangaroo . Everyone else migrated from Sicily,Italy. I love to cook and love to eat even more. Especially love a good Asian meal . And I love chocolate. Atomic Design - Part 2/3 Hello my friends, Here is another interesting post on Atomic Design Methodology. I’ve been asked some questions and I’m glad you’re interested in learning more about it! I read this book almost 3 years ago, and it was a game changer! Since then, everything I do has become reusable and maintainable. Rather than focusing your energy trying to rename every file based on the concept that each layer is an atom or organism, you should first understand the concept behind it, and then apply this methodology to your project. Atomic Design is more than just organizing or renaming layers. It’s more than UI KITs or Style guides. It’s larger than working with components. Atomic Design is a methodology that helps you spend more time thinking than just moving pixels around. Next post I’ll share how I build my files using Atomic Design.
