Registros das transformações urbanas do Rio de Janeiro As fotografias que apresentamos hoje mostram as obras de abertura da avenida Presidente Vargas, no centro do Rio de Janeiro, no início da década de 1940. A intervenção tinha o objetivo de melhorar as condições de circulação e saneamento da então capital federal. Com quatro quilômetros de extensão e 80 metros de largura, a monumental avenida foi inaugurada em 1944, ligando, numa linha reta, o centro da cidade à zona norte. As fotos deste post estão contidas no fundo Hélio de Brito, conjunto doado ao Arquivo Nacional em 1999 que reúne documentos do #acervo pessoal do #engenheiro civil Hélio Alves de Brito (1902-1978). Muitas dessas fotografias são registros de obras que provocaram grandes transformações urbanas na cidade entre o final da década de 1930 e início da década de 1940. Hélio de Brito participou ativamente desses empreendimentos. Ele ocupou os cargos de diretor de obras da prefeitura do Distrito Federal, em 1938, e de engenheiro-chefe do Serviço Técnico Especial da Comissão Construtora da Avenida Presidente Vargas e Esplanada do Castelo, entre 1938 e 1946. Pileta en la Plaza de Independencia A mediados del siglo XIX, se decidió remodelar completamente la plaza. Esta tarea se le encomendó al ingeniero Pascual Binimelis, que proyectó un gran monumento que iría al centro de la plaza, rodeado de jardines, y que sostendría la estatua de la diosa Ceres, símbolo de la fertilidad agrícola. De la gran columna nacen cuatro imponentes faroles de hierro, y en la base cuatro sirenas soplan sus caracolas que surten de agua a la fuente. Esta obra fue fundida en Liverpool, Inglaterra, bajo la dirección de Augusto Bleuze. Una de las curiosidades que hace particular a esta pileta en Chile tiene que ver con el escudo nacional que lleva impreso, ya que no lleva el tradicional huemul del símbolo patrio chileno, sino que en su lugar existe un león heráldico (aunque parece más un caballo). Es creencia popular que esto se debe a que el encargado de realizar la pileta, al mirar el diseño que le enviaron, no conocía al huemul, por lo que concluyó erróneamente que se trataba de un caballo. Realmente a mediados del siglo XIX había bastante libertad en la realización del escudo patrio pudiéndose ver con distintos animales en variados objetos como banderas, estampillas o monumentos, este mismo escudo, con el caballo esculpido, se puede ver en el Teatro Municipal de Santiago e incluso en el carruaje presidencial visto para el 18 de septiembre. El estanque de agua que rodea a la pileta fue esculpido en piedra rosada por Alejandro Strange, en San Rosendo. El nuevo monumento y la renovada Plaza de la Independencia fue reinaugurada en abril de 1856. MAFine Art graduates in Paris Screening: ‘The Angel, Azrail’ at BétonSalon Center for Art and Research, Paris Date: 26th of September 2020 4-6pm Programme: ‘Bivouacs #2 / Breathing Out of Scool by RAW Academie’ ‘The Angel, Azrail’ is a film project made from the contributions of 35 women who interpreted poems written by Mustafa Boga. Based on the poems, the creators were asked to make films of around a minute long by using any type of film medium they preferred, including performances, short films, animation and music videos. The poems depict the moment when Azrail is on earth to take the life of those who are dying. They are written from Azrail’s perspective while helping people to accept their death. In the poems the main character is Azrail who is often identified as Azrael, the Angel of Death, in the Hebrew Bible. The Qur’an also refers to Azrail, and in the Islamic Persian alphabet the spelling is Izrail. The name translates to ‘the help of God’, ‘help from God’, or ‘one whom God helps’. The Royal Bank, corner of Elizabeth and Collins Streets, Melbourne, Australia, c. 1929. Prior to the ANZ, three other banks have traded from the southeast corner of the intersection of Collins and Elizabeth Streets. Partially visible in this photograph of c. 1929, is the earlier bank building on this site. It was designed by Terry & Oakden, and built for the City of Melbourne Bank in 1886. By 1903 another bank, the Royal Bank of Australia traded from these premises. The existing building on this corner, built by the ES&A Bank in 1939-40, retained the title of Royal Bank in the name of its branch here (as has the ANZ). Visible to the right of the Royal Bank is the Australian Building in Elizabeth Street. The Australian Building was, at the time of its completion in 1889-90, one of the tallest commercial buildings in the world. Also visible is the Brooks Robinson building completed in 1910. Brooks Robinson were merchants in building products including glazing, paints and oils; and the building served as showrooms for the products they sold. Their handsome Edwardian building, designed by the architects Inskip & Kemp, is extant. As a group, the Royal Bank, the Australian and the Brooks Robinson buildings, formed a fine collection of late-Victorian and Edwardian commercial architecture in this part of the city. Επηρέασε τη διάρθρωση του πρώτου σχεδίου της νέας πόλης, ενώ έλαβε την τελική του μορφή το 1936, όταν μετά από πυρκαγιά πραγματοποιήθηκε ριζική ανακαίνιση και προστέθηκε ο τρίτος όροφος. In 2005, directly out of college I sent my resume to resume@nationals.com . Baseball was coming back to Washington DC and I wanted to be a part of it. I was hired part time in the marketing department and the journey began. From establishing the Nat Pack, helping to implement the presidents race, and working the in-game entertainment, I formed some lifelong memories and made some life long friends. Kamienica Wolfa Krongolda przy ul. Złotej 83 w Warszawie. Pierwotnie budynek był bogato zdobiony, klatkę schodową wyłożono białym marmurem, a żeliwne balustrady były ręcznie wykonane. Po wojnie usunięto ocalałą sztukatrię. Na początku lat 60. zerwano kamienne i metalowe balkony, usunięto zdobione, ręcznie kute wrota bramy. Szarym tynkiem zamurowano także linie boniowania. Mieszkania podzielono na mniejsze. Budynek był nazywany Pekinem ze względu na przeludnienie. O symbolicznych miejscach Woli dowiecie się na wystawie Przemiany. Krajobraz Woli po 1989 roku. Around this time 31 years ago I got the best wake up call of my career. My manager at triple A Columbus Clippers the late Rick Down called and gave me the news of the call up to join the New York Yankees. It’s been an amazing ride and so fitting that I’m back in New York as the bench coach for the Mets. More fitting is that I wore number 31 for the most part in my career. El incendio de El Sótano en 1957 significó una gran pérdida para la vida artística local pero a finales de la década de 1950 con la conclusión parcial del edificio FIUC, emplazado en la esquina de las calles Barros Arana con Caupolicán y obra de los arquitectos Osvaldo Cáceres, Alejandro Rodríguez, Gabriela González junto con Edmundo Buddemberg, se abrió un nuevo espacio, la Galería Universitaria, actualmente conocida como David Stitchkin Brannover, la cual rápidamente se convirtió en un referente clave de los espacios de exhibición artística, más aún después del terremoto de 1960 que implicó la pérdida de dos importantes espacios universitarios asociados al arte, los talleres de Víctor Lamas con Caupolicán y el edificio de OHiggins 850 donde funcionaba la Escuela de Periodismo, el cual era utilizado para exhibiciones temporales. Mañana en el espacio que Historia Arquitectónica de Concepción posee en el @matinalnuestracasa de Canal Regional estaremos conversando de este tema, (hoy hubo problemas técnicos y se tuvo que posponer). Las primeras 2 fotografías son del Archivo Fotográfico de la Universidad de Concepción y la última del archivo de Eugenio Brito, cuando las figuras de Las Tres Pascualas fueron exhibidas en la Galería Universitaria antes de ser montadas en el mural, único vestigio del edificio FIUC original, el cual fue remodelado después del terremoto del 2010 con materiales inferiores y una calidad de diseño que dista del lenguaje original del edificio. 📢STOCK DROP TODAY📢 While the first formal Cleveland-based baseball team was formed in 1869, the Cleveland Indians only came to be in 1915. During the 1914-1915 season the owners thought a name change might reinvigorate the team and help their fans forget several recent disappointing seasons where they were dismissed. Prior to 1915, the team went through multiple names including: The Cleveland Forest City’s, the Cleveland Spiders, the Cleveland Blues, the Cleveland Broncos, and the Cleveland Naps. Similarly to the teams name, the Cleveland Indians have gone through 7 logos since 1918. Their first logo was a simple red ‘C’, but in 1928 they decided to use an image: a Native American head. Through the years their Native American head has gone from being simple and crudely drawn, to colorful and confusing, to simple and stylized. A logo similar to the one we see today first emerged in 1947 when the owner of the Indians, Bill Veeck, hired a 17-year-old ad agency artist named Walter Goldbach to design an Indian face for the teams logo. His original logo lasted 3 years, after which the Indians added a body to their logo and made his skin solid red. This marked the beginning of the logo known as Chief Wahoo. This logo remained almost identical, except for a couple minor visual adjustments, until 2018 when the Indians made the decision to officially retire the logo due to long-term outrage from the native Indian community and other activists, and controversy surrounding the racially insensitive subject matter. The Cleveland Indians have incredible heritage behind their name - having won the World Series in 1920 and 1948, and the American League championship in 1954, 1955, 1997 and 2016. Their team has been home to some of the greatest baseball players ever, with some of the most incredible accolades including: Elmer Smith hitting the first Grand Slam in World Series history, Jim Bagby hitting the first home run by a pitcher in World Series history, and Bill Wambsganss completing the only ever entirely unassisted triple play in World Series history.
