It’s HARD to get a photo of both your legs! But what’s even harder? . When shit hits the fan & your body reacts to stress! . My father-in-law passed away after a sad, quick, & scary cancer diagnosis in November. . 24-hours later my whole body was covered in new psoriasis patches. . I cried. . I cried for his life cut WAY too short. Mourned the memories we wouldn’t make. . I cried for my husband, who lost his person. His best friend. His comrade & go-to for all the things. . I cried for the people who judged us at our darkest moment, because they didn’t know what else to do with their own grief but to project it. . I cried for the way my body was telling me that something wasn’t right (as if I didn’t already know.)🙄 . I cried so hard it hurt. . And yet, My higher self reminded me that being a victim to my body is literally the LAST thing that will be helpful right now. . So I Prayed. . And I implemented my own healing protocols: . I sang out of tune to the heavens to stimulate my vagus nerve. . I danced without shame to get my chakras aligned & my bowels moving. . I eliminated inflammatory foods & nourished myself with whole, organic, diverse vegetables, meat & seafood. (I’m A+ blood type so lean animal protein works really well for me.) . I rested. A lot. . I walked outside for sunshine (Vitamin D) & fresh oxygen in my lungs. . I skin brushed daily and took contrast hot/cold showers to flush my lymph. . Throughout my life, like many, I have been asked “what are your goals” short term and long term. To be honest, I am not one that has felt called to set goals or expectations. As Jon always said to me expectation management and if it is suppose to happen it will. In the world we live today, we put so much pressure on ourself to achieve & get to the next thing as quickly as possible. But what if the whole purpose of life is to be present in the now and be content in the process? All things God creates for the good of His children. Even through suffering He sharpens us. Early on I was asked what my goals were for Jon’s healing. And the two words I used were peace & clarity. Peace in our challenges, faith that God had a greater purpose and clarity in how to fulfill that purpose. I spoke these words and allowed God the space to work. Each step in the process I was willing to tackle the battle. For two years my calling was not one of ease but rather watching my husband fight his way back through darkness. There was days I cried out to God asking for strength as my patience ran dry but in those moments I felt the arms of God hold me reminding me to be still and know He was God. I focused on what was needed in each moment and stayed open to all possibilities. God gave me the patience, resilience, stillness, and love to pour over Jon to guide him back to life. Now, over three and half years later, Jon’s soul is one of purity, joy, peace and clarity. “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. I was never bullied as a kid (thank goodness), but as I got older I actually started getting bullied by other adults... from parking in a handicap spot 😂 I get 2 to 4 comments a week just going about my normal routine and parking in handicap spaces. I’ve had people yell at me, leave notes on my windshield, knock on my car window or wait for me to get out of my car just to tell me I can’t park there. My worst experience to date was a older couple that followed me around a grocery store and kept making comments because they wanted the handicap spot I took and said that I didn’t need it. I even explained I had two prosthetic legs and they told me I was a liar 🤔😅 I am a bilateral amputee with about two inches of bone below the knee. My legs hurt. Even though I have an incredible team who fits my prosthetics perfectly, some days they still just hurt. I could’ve had a long travel day, leg day in the weight room, or a busy day with a lot of walking. Every day is different. I rely on my handicap pass so much. In the summertime, my legs get super sweaty. Imagine wearing silicone socks and then trying to walk in 100° weather. (That’s the thick insert I wear over my knees to keep my prothetic leg and my real leg together.) In the winter, walking in snow and ice is really difficult. If I fall down, I need a hand to help me up. And don’t even get me started on rain 💁🏼♀️ Less walking is best for me and as @havenfaithshepherd said in a recent post - amputees only have a certain amount of steps each day before we get tired. My point is this: you never know what someone is going through, but kindness always wins. Maybe you can’t figure out why a young person is parked in a handicap spot, and that’s okay... there’s a lot of “invisible” disabilities. I shouldn’t have to justify myself to strangers every time I use my handicap pass while wearing long pants. There’s nothing wrong with showing some kindness and assuming you don’t know the full story and that it’s not your job to figure it out. I’ve found it really useful seeing what other makeup artists have done to make their kit covid safe. So I wanted to share my set up. I’ve been consulting this past week (I’ve touched no faces, only hair, I promise). Getting my kit reorganised and fully deep cleaned took for ever but I’m happy with the set up I have. ✖️ Bed roll instead of towels ✖️ 70% IPA ✖️ Hand sanitiser ✖️ @barbicideblue for tools & hard surfaces. ✖️Cif professional wipes - bacterial & viruses. ✖️ @iso_clean brush cleaner. ✖️ Palette & spatula sets - in their own sealed packaging. Clean for each model. I have 3 of these and for bridal will alternate between clients. One in use, one in @barbicideblue. ✖️Brush sets - sealed brush sets for each model/client. Enough for the day. No spot cleaning of brushes & reusing. But @iso_clean on hand if I need to clean brush for the same client/model. ✖️Sample/travel size mascaras. I also now have @eyeko full size mascaras as they’re easy to squeeze on to palette. ✖️Sealed bin. Currently using @mykitco pod as it can be compacted down in kit after use. ✖️ Disposables. Bamboo mascara & lip wands, cotton buds, gauze etc. All in separate sealed bags & contained in one big zip bag. ✖️ Clip lock container for putting tools in @barbicideblue. Also a small cup container for pencil sharpeners/ eyelash curlers. ✖️ Folding bowl (compact for fitting in kit) for everything used/touched. Everything is then cleaned before going back in my kit. ✖️ 5 well palettes for model kits and touch ups. These are just old @rcmamakeup foundation palettes that I’ve cleaned and repurposed. ✖️ Visor from @mowbrayleather ✖️ @juddmedical Face mask ✖️Gloves if required Very minimal product out. Only what is needed. All my kit is in sealable zip bags that I wipe down after handling & put back in case. Whilst consulting I’ve made up kits for models, decanting product on to palettes & using loose powders or creams where possible. But if not doing the cotton pad trick for pressed powders (watch @babskymakeup video). I’ve then advised at a distance with mask & visor on. Routine puncture wounds from blood draws turn into big bruises when one is on blood thinning medication! Quick update: discharged from the hospital yesterday. Now on two blood thinners as the first one I was given did not work. I am feeling so much better compared to just a couple of days ago. So very grateful. Awaiting lots of test results to help figure out why I ended up with the extensive blood clots to the veins in my liver. This is an unusual situation as my blood clots are very different than one gets with a DVT. As such, the Hematology doctors are looking at some esoteric and rare diagnoses to see if anything shows up. No matter what, I’m very lucky and extraordinarily grateful and blessed by the tremendous outpouring of love and support from so so many people. I’ll keep updating here as there are so many lessons and blessings I want to share. My life has been turned completely upside down in one week. I never saw this coming, but I wouldn’t want it any other way! True Portrait foundation is light to medium coverage, satin finish base that’s flattering on my normal t-zone and super dry cheeks. It looks natural, but gives a bit of that instant filter finish. It doesn’t set in lines or accentuates dry patches. The photos taken here are after 6 hours from application, lightly set under eyes and t-zone. It’s easy to blend cheek products on even without setting with powder first, and as you can see it keeps bronzer blush and highlight vibrant for a while. I used to wear it daily to the office and it has the capacity to survive 12 hours+ days. - I was mauled by bees yesterday On my upper body they stopped counting at about 360 stingers, not including my head. 51 bees were pulled from my hair. Theres about another 200-300 more on my lower body & head. Stinger in my mouth, ears & eyelids were the worst. Ive never been so scared tbh.
Our farmer loves bringing us these bright yellow vinegar bottles that are constantly washing up on south Florida shores from Haiti, DR, Cuba, and other Caribbean neighbors. . We finally got time to play with them, so we took a 100+ and turned them into our first polyethylene tile. . Each bottle weighs only about half a gram, and with or without trapped air, polyethylene floats in water, so these little dudes float up from the Caribbean to litter our beaches. . Our tile is 58 grams of PE, which equates to about 100 vinegar bottles. The extra mass comes from those orange streaks you are seeing in the tile which are Gatorade bottle caps (so far the only bottle caps we have found to be PE as the rest are PP). . With production running smoothly, we are excited to knock out a few PP and PE wall art commissions. Grief has turned my world on it’s head, but finally my skin has got the memo. It knows I have more important matters to deal with. It felt like the perfect time to write down where I started from and where I am now. Ciclosporin is a major part of that story. 4 photos to illustrate the hardest 2 years of my life. No steroids, on ciclosporin, off ciclosporin and where I sit today, weary but with skin I NEVER imagined was possible. No medications, nothing… Back in 2018 I was using potent steroids on my face and body. I was under dermatology and my skin was terrible despite the steroids. Hello internet, hello topical steroid withdrawal…hang on, it might be my treatment that’s driving the problem?! Step in the fear and doubt. My dermatologist shook his head & frowned, my well meaning friends thought I was mad and in my darkest moments, I feared that too. It’s hard to pinpoint when I knew I was doing the right thing for my skin, it was like a quiet voice in the corner which said ‘just keep on moving my friend, this makes sense, it will work out’. I came off steroids abruptly and my skin flared in a way I never thought possible. It wasn’t eczema. It was sunburn, it was ooze, it was gremlins under my skin keeping me awake every night, I could have happily peeled my skin off to stop feeling that uncomfortable. I lasted almost 6 months. The decision to go on ciclosporin felt like giving up, I felt the online judgement harshly. My skin got better within 6 weeks, I felt like me again. What I know now, is ciclosporin gave my skin the time to get stronger, to build up those layers so cruelly stripped by stopping steroids. But, more importantly, it gave my head time to get ready for round 2. On stopping ciclosporin after a year, I flared instantly. It’s taken 6 months this time to get better and apart from two dry wrists, it’s gone. GONE! Taking immunosuppressants was the way I needed to get through. It gave me a break, it allowed me to get my sh&t together ….more of that to follow, but hint hint, ‘all disease begins in the gut….’. - @drruthskinjourney on Instagram

When I first came to the clinic, I had been battling acne on and off for 8 years, leaving me with very deep pitting and vascular scars. Id tried just about everything under the sun, all kinds of clinical beauty treatments as well as alternative therapies, diets, antibiotics and the pill; you name it! But nothing seemed to work or if it did, not for long. Grateful for my connection with a diverse skin community here on Instagram, sharing the pain and struggle of suffering with eczema and with a mission to share HOPE for ALL warriors. Living with eczema is soul destroying for all who endure it, eczema does not discriminate but sadly the education around it does and this NEEDS to change!👊🏿👊🏾👊🏽👊🏼👊🏻 Awareness is key. Education is critical. We have to do this work. I’m so grateful for the warriors that have shared these images. Having white skin I have been privileged my eczema was diagnosed and noticed instantly. This should be the same for all races. POC skin needs more research and awareness. They shouldn’t be discriminated when seeking medical treatment or misdiagnosed due to lack of knowledge. Today marks the 5-year anniversary of me grenade-ing my smile. The surgeons and dentists I’ve seen have told me my case has been one of, if not THE most difficult they’ve experienced, trying to get a functional smile that still looks decent. That being said, I’m incredibly grateful for the effort from everyone involved on the path to my new smile. We’re still gonna tweak it a little to dial in the aesthetics, but the function of the implants is fantastic, which was the main priority. It’s been quite a long time looking at myself in the mirror every night without permanent teeth and it feel so great to be on the backside of that. There are still moments I replay the crash in my mind and try to change it. But this all has definitely taught me a great deal about self-image and acceptance, and in an odd way, I’m grateful for the experience. My third bit of gratitude in this post goes out to all of my friends and family that we’re so supportive every step of the way. And especially my wife (@katie.bell25) who’s love and strength never wavered, even in the moments I was feeling most down. I got this idea from @diydalia_ I spray painted the trinket boxes from dollar tree (I have not finished the blue one just yet) And then used contact paper and a hair dryer to cover the lids. I need to go back and get a few of the creases and trim some excess from the finished product, but it was so cute I wanted to share it now. TREE TO TABLE 🌳 five years ago Clay and I took a leap of faith and moved our family to a beautiful acreage in rural Iowa with the dream of salvaging urban lumber and turning that beautiful material into quality, handcrafted furniture. It was Gracie’s first birthday, and Logan was 4 years old. That day it rained non-stop all day while we were making trips back and forth from my parent’s house to our new home - and after we finally settled in for our first dinner together the rain stopped, the clouds parted, and the most beautiful rainbow appeared. I’m a sucker for signs - and I knew we’d made the right decision in that moment. The last five years have been an absolute whirlwind - we scavenged and scraped by while building a business that would soon take off faster than we could gave anticipated. We are so incredibly humbled and grateful to see our work so well received - and there are soooooo many ideas we have yet to explore which makes us feel like we’re just getting started. Many have asked how Bridger is doing with his healing. We are so grateful for the concerns, thoughts, and prayers. We have, in a very real and tangible way, been blessed by your positivity. The bottom right was the night of his injury. The bottom middle was after half the stitches came out the following week. The bottom left was after all the stitches were removed. The top two photos are before (right) and after (left) his first laser treatment. The laser treatment was amazing at resurfacing the raised areas and helping with the general coloring. However, it does take some time for all the redness caused by the laser to dissipate.
