Frida Gertrude was born at 4:56 AM on September 23 after 48 hours of labor. She is 8.1 pounds, 21.5 inches long, and very healthy! A quick note on Frida photos going forward: I love sharing with you all and really feel like I’ve gotten to know a lot you quite well, and of course some of you I know IRL as well. But the truth is, with nearly 50K followers and a public account, I DON’T know the vast majority of people who see my photos. Rob feels pretty strongly about Frida photos not being all over the internet, and I do also want to respect Frida’s privacy. So many of you have told me you can’t wait for photos, and you have been so supportive throughout my pregnancy that I really wanted to share at least one picture, but going forward I plan to avoid showing her face on my public accounts. This might change over time, but I did want to be transparent with you and thank you for all your support and excitement about Frida ❤️ P.S. NO judgment from me whatsoever on other people’s choices about photos on social media. I absolutely love seeing so many of your adorable and hilarious kids! If my husband didn’t feel strongly about it, it probably wouldn’t have occurred to me. This is just the first of many decisions I want to make together as parents. If you didn’t know, I was a single mom when Chris and I bought Lions & Rabbits. I sold my Alger Heights home with about three months worth of funds to live off of. It. Sucked. Hard. I cried a lot. 2020 feels I have felt financially useless, like a terrible mom and partner- Like the walls of this “investment” would crumble before I could fix them or my garbage bill will set me over the edge. I felt like no “business for dummies” book would help me and I still make jokes about hating money because it’s math. So I worked longer and more intentionally (and learned math) We’ve been putting a lot of that weight onto those around us. Whether it’s babysitting or ordering food after a long day, the support has been the key of our success. Thank you. And now it’s four years later. We’re still here. And this tangible, experiential space, is still just space. But it’s housing millions of hidden treasures. The wild thing is, it will never be the physical building but what is in and around it, created by hundreds of people. Art, education, safety and experience. These have given many of us the opportunity blossom, together. Even in an event space during COVID. Sometimes I wake up and think about the theatres being closed in addition to an already uncertain industry.I think about the stress of moving home and the confusion of the current pandemic. That anxiety can sit in my gut like a lead balloon. Then I hear a little sneeze in the room next door (dont worry he hasnt got it, he has just always enjoyed a morning achoo) . I roll out of bed and go to say good morning to this young man. I scoop him up, change that stank nappy and bring him into my room for a cuddle and some rollover training. . He doesnt know it yet, but he is the perfect stress ball. conscious uncoupling. 2020 marks the year that we embark on separate journeys and stop living together. it’s been a year since we initiated the reformulation of our relationship from partners to co-parents and it feels like a huge accomplishment to get to where we are today in our own lives and with each other. living together while we have been figuring out how to move towards independence has been equal parts intense, compassionate, beautiful, and trying in all the ways. there is no real formula for how to do it so we have been making it up as we go along. i can imagine it must be easier for some people to have a clean break. for us that felt more jarring and unstable for our son, so we decided to slowly spiral out of our relationship the same way we went in: a lot of pausing to ask if it still feels right, a lot of processing and communicating with each other, and a whole lot of patience. i’ve learned more about what true partnership means in the dissolution of our marriage than in the formation of it. somehow we’ve managed to uphold all of our promises and vows to each other through this because we recognized early on that you can’t promise forever and that to love and honor someones highest good sometimes means letting them go. even though our marriage was a temporary moment in time the lessons, love, and memories we shared will last a lifetime. i’m so grateful for the love we still share, for the friendship we will nurture and still put energy into, and for the family we are and will always be. #fullmoonfeels - @gatheredcanyon on Instagram

Just got off a really amazing #1fitfuture call. I spent all of my 20s beating the crap out of myself and my body. And all for what? I was constantly tired and my body wasn’t changing. And I would just think I know what to do, I’m a personal trainer but why are my clients seeing results and I’m not??? The truth is the change had to come from within me. And it’s happening. Our new house is full of rainbows. Every day, at some point, they start to appear; behind my head as I’m changing Freya’s nappy, causing her to point and say excitedly “Bow! Bow!”; on the bedroom wall while I’m sorting laundry and yelling “GENTLE!” at the kids for the fiftieth time; or as I’m picking up Lego off Louie’s floor and silently cursing his obsession with the stuff. Basically they are tiny, beautiful pause buttons that we stop and place our hands on and remember how lucky and happy we are. Happy first birthday to our little chickpea, Rosalia Matteo! Rosalia has been a curious, energetic, joyful babe since day one. She knows what she wants, and wants it when she wants. She is determined and voracious. She has jokes and games, loves all animals, says “aahhh” when she sees the ocean and feels the wind, and will eat just about any bean. . Rosalia demands she walk our dogs, already says two words in Italian (l’acqua e grazie) and sooo many words in English. She loves rubber duckies, Peppa Pig, Baby Yoda, and the songs from Frozen 2, Lady Gaga, and Bikini Kill. She relishes in activities that involve stacking, sorting, puzzles, and anything that sparks her smart little brain. Her favorite books involve Frida Kahlo, Keith Haring, bell hooks, and of course Sesame Street. . Rosalia keeps us on our toes with how incredibly intelligent she is. Each day she activates some new skill or level of understanding. . We try to give Rosalia a balance of freedom and structure and guidance. We want Rosalia to have gender-full options and limitless ways to express herself as she grows and comes more into her own. . Parenting is deeply challenging. Parenting during loss and grief and global pandemic even more so. But everyday @ketchwehr shows endless resilience, generosity, care, joy, love, and magic to help make this time as brilliant as possible. I’m immensely grateful we have this prism of love during such a brutal year. 🌈 . Being a mother is so, so much better than I ever thought it would be. I didn’t always want it, and I was terrified.
