Archive of non-existent realities The installation view of the final project @luxceleste and I presented at @vaczattere on the occasion of the end of the workshop held by Antoni Muntadas. This ongoing research focuses on the ambiguity and opacity that mark new technologies, media and our digital world, linked here with a contemporary take on alchemy. Inspired by the opus alchemicum and chemical-physical reactions of minerals, we developed a simulacrum based on one of the shapes generated by our trained generative model. Because as of 8am this morning, if you live within 5km of @peninsulahotsprings then you are not only in luck, but you are in their famous pools. Under conditions that can only be described as unprecedented in their excellence. Just you and the other very near locals. Landing yourselves in hot water. Yee gads, it’s even school holidays so you can take the kids and eeeeeeasily kill a half day of ‘I’m bored’s with very little effort whatsoever. We’d write more about the soothing, healing properties of the hot springs’ natural mineral waters drawn from an aquifer 637 metres underground and a toasty 54-degree Celsius hot. We’d rave about the layout, the landscaping, the bathhouse, the all-sensory, all dancing between multiple spacious pools experience that is the Peninsula’s biggest attraction. But frankly, we’re jealous. We’re not local enough. For us to go, we need a 30km hot springs exception radius enacted. What are the chances? In the meantime, people of Rye, Fingal and St Andrews, we tip our hot springs hats to thee and wish you rarefied uncrowded bathing. This is definitely your time. •A New Chapter• When I think about this first half of the year it seems impossible to get a break. First transportation strikes that limited mobility throughout the city here, then a global pandemic, now an outcry for justice. Meanwhile, in the midst of all these things I’ve been navigating entering a new chapter of motherhood. Under normal circumstances this is supposed to be a joyful and exciting moment. I’ve been overwhelmed with anxiety, worried about my health and the health of the baby. Haven’t been able to access prenatal care as I normally would due to Covid. With everything that is currently going on in the US my heart has been so heavy thinking about the family of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and all the families who have lost their sons or daughters too soon. As much as I want to curl up and wish this year is over, I’m hopeful that the world is getting ready to turn the page to a new chapter and I am making a point to find joy and celebrate this new journey. The misfits of Methana 💦 . Not long ago Nimi and I decided to take a day off after an intense period of shooting the latest seasons of our YouTube show #NimiAndKristofsKitchen in #Greece, and drove to #KantiaBeach, an untouched piece of #paradise ont he South of the #Pelopponese, by #Nafplio. Little did we know that our perfect afternoon will turn into a #dramatic day, as our car got stuck in the deep sand by the #sea, and after an hour of heavy digging and even trying to lift the car, we walked into the nearby #village to find a #farmer with a tractor. . Luck was on our side and approaching a fish #tavern by the #shore we found Kostas, who did not speak a word in English, but his #heart was gold – by the time we got a bottle of cold beer to survive the #heatstroke he was ready with his big baby on gigantic wheels, and he towed us out to the main road, using his belt as a rope connecting our cars, constantly speaking to us in #Greek, regardless of the fact that it was clear from the first moment: our only common language is trying to solve the trouble we got in. . This is just one of the many stories that show how the reputation of #Greeks being backwards when it comes to accepting #homosexuality. @nimrodagan and I were both wearing teeny-tiny shorts and low cut Madonna tank tops that day – as we do throughout the days of the #summer #InGreece, and not Kostas, not anyone else raised an eyebrow: you can be whoever you are in a #GreekVillage, as long as you treat others with #kindness and #respect, they will love and appreciate you. . We are often asked how our village accepted us - #truth is people here in the #EndOfTheWorld are less into trashing others than in cities I lived in. Maybe because if anything happens we only have each other, or it’s the fact that we are all #misfits, leaving behind the madness of metropolises, and we might be very #different in some things, when in comes to #realness we are like-minded. I tend to find that the further I am from a cell signal, the happier I am. After 11 miles on the rugged island coast, I’m sore but invigorated. I feel healthier in my body and soul. And as I lay on the cool sand and gaze up at the Milky Way, I feel like everyone I hiked in with shares the same joy. Something about knowing that you could be in a life-or-death position with the wrong footing is a fast track for friendship. And as I lay there, I find that I struggle to even spot the Big Dipper amongst the mass of stars. We talk about how it’s understandable that ancient civilizations would have believed there to be gods in the night sky. We shower under an icy waterfall. We share granola bars and life stories. We talk about society like it’s a chore for someone else. We swim through manowars. We pop blisters. We cover our shit in leaves in the compost toilet. We devour freeze-dried pasta like it’s gourmet. We lose something every ten minutes, because living out of a pack is not an organized process. But we’re so damn happy. Deliriously happy, almost. As every sunset paints the mountains red, we’re reminded how good it can feel to cast modern life aside for a little while. - @allieleah on Instagram
