To my white friends who are being silent through this... I see you... It’s true a revolution has many lanes and during a pandemic it’s also making it more difficult for a lot but in a lot of ways most people are off work and now is the perfect opportunity to show up and shout and demand things to change. I would say you’re a never too small to make a difference. As good old Dalai Lama says ‘ If you think you’re too small to make a difference, try going to bed with a mosquito.’ Everyone is responsible to make changes. To start conversations. To trigger movements. EVERYONE. No matter how big or small. Being consistently ACTIVE IS KEY. Some of you are already getting tired. That is privilege in itself. Some of you haven’t even started. That is also privilege but I know a lot of you are in it for the long run. I’m making mistakes still, I’m getting nervous lots about opening these conversations but Maya Angelou said ‘Do what’s right, not what’s easy’ and that’s something I’ve said to people throughout my life. That’s something I say to myself a lot and it’s apt more than ever. STAND UP FOR SOMETHING. SOMETHING REALLY FUCKING IMPORTANT. BLACK LIVES MATTER. If you can’t go protest. Make your own in your own town. If you can’t do that protest on your street. A LOT of you had VE street parties during this pandemic... so why not have a protest for human rights in your street . That would be proactive. Conversations with friends and families. Required. L Petitions. Writing to MPs. There are online todo lists now that you can find with emails to write and actions to take. Support your black friends. Education. Reading. Watching documentaries. Live streams. Speaking out to your fellow white friends via any medium. Make it art. Make people listen. Just get moving. There’s lots to be done but there are a lot of excuses too. I know not everyone can march. Not everyone can donate. Not everyone has access to resources. God I know that but there’s people willing to send books for free. There’s films online and documentaries for free. There’s people standing on there doorsteps with signs to raise awareness. And even if it did and we all looked like that, would we be happy? Probably not. ‍ Every time that we compare how we look, we are telling our body that it’s not good enough. That it doesn’t belong, loading it with body shame. If we did that to a friend, that would be mean and harmful. So why do that to ourselves? ‍ Find ways to reconnect with your body and your appearance. Appreciate all that you have been blessed with, and all that your body has done for you. Including the emotions it allows you to feel. Do you do any movement in the morning? 🤔🙋🏼‍♂️ . Something I never used to do in the past when I woke up, was move… . Now, I think it’s one of the best ways to start your morning 🌞 and if all you have is 5 minutes, even that can work! . When I do some mobility work in the AM… I feel more alert 🚨, more awake 👀 , not so tight 💥 and overall more clear headed. 🧠 . For me I spend about 10 minutes ⏰, but again the time is up to you. . We don’t move🚶 enough in general, so this only adds to your movement total for the day. .
