We send our deepest condolences to Detective Waterman’s family, friends, and the entire Murrieta Police Department. Rest In Peace, Sir. @murrietapd — The Murrieta Police Department is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our own Detective Sean Waterman. Detective Waterman served honorably in the United States Coast Guard starting in 1989 before joining the San Diego Police Department in 1999. While in San Diego, he worked various assignments throughout the Eastern and Mid-City Divisions while earning a reputation as a hardworking and motivated Police Officer. The Murrieta Police Department was lucky enough to welcome Detective Waterman to their ranks in 2007 when he lateraled to our city. He dedicated the next 12 years of his life serving the citizens of Murrieta with pride and professionalism while working multiple assignments such as Patrol Officer, K9 Officer and Detective. Detective Waterman was also a member of our SWAT Team and served as a highly rated Sniper and firearms instructor. Detective Waterman served his country and the communities he worked for with distinction, honor and respect. His tireless work ethic, unwavering motivation and never give up attitude served as inspiration to his coworkers, friends and family. Dear Cinephiles, Royal: “You know, Richie, this illness, this closeness to death... its had a profound affect on me. I feel like a different person, I really do.” Richie: “Dad, you were never dying.” Royal: “But Im going to live.” I can’t believe I hadn’t recommended “The Royal Tenenbaums” (2001) earlier. What is the matter with me?! First of all it is directed by one of the most distinctive voices in cinema - Wes Anderson - whose style I’ve been teaching for years in my classes. This was the first film that I saw in the autumn following 9/11 that brought me a sense of healing and hope - since it took place in New York and dealt with a dysfunctional family that is going through a spiritual and existential breakdown - each of them feeling uniquely isolated - but are ultimately reawakened and redeemed by love. Its message, its warmth, its humor, its eccentricity and wit are desperately needed right now when we all can relate to the Tenenbaums’ disconnectedness. This is an exquisitely and beautifully crafted film that from the get-go establishes its literary feel - starting with an upside-down book being taken out of the library - with the title “The Royal Tenenbaums” emblazoned on its cover. The narration - in a style reminiscent of “Franny and Zooey” - tells about the eccentric family that is led by a narcissist named Royal, his wife Etheline, who is an anthropologist - and their three young genius children. We meet entrepreneur Chas whom dad steals from, the tennis sensation Richie who also paints loving portraits of his adopted sister, and the dramatist Margot - who got a grant to write a play in ninth grade. It is announced that mom and dad have decided to separate. Tapi karena berbagai sebab, beliau terpaksa menjalankan profesi ini & beberapa tahun kemudian beliau menikmatinya. Lalu ada Guru yg juga berjualan selain mengajar. Gaji Guru honorer yang kecil tidak cukup untuk memenuhi kebutuhan seluruh keluarganya, karena gaji kecil itu juga, dgn tidak sengaja penulis mendengar obrolan seorang Guru yg terpaksa kasbon pada TU sekolah, & yg sering kita temui seorang Guru yang galak tapi masih peduli dgn anak-anak muridnya. Kondisi-kondisi Guru tersebut bagi berhasil digambarkan di film Guru-Guru Gokil. . Dengan beberapa kritikan terhadap film ini dari para kritikus film di media sosial. Hubungan antara Guru-Guru dgn muridnya di film ini kurang dibangun dgn kuat. Hasilnya klimaks film dimana para Guru bekerjasama dengan murid-murid untuk menyelesaikan sebuah masalah terasa terjadi begitu saja. Sangat disayangkan memang. Fokus cerita pada perjuangan para Guru mendapatkan gaji mereka kembali membuat hal tersebut menjadi nomor dua. Tapi di sisi lain, Guru-Guru Gokil memberikan kisah yg cukup segar tentang perjuangan Guru tanpa melupakan ironi-ironi lama. . Berbagai kekurangan yg ada pada film ini bukan berarti membuat film ini menjadi sajian yg hambar, banyak hal yang membuat kita menikmatinya, antara lain tentu saja akting jajaran pemainnya: Gading Marten yg sudah tidak asing lagi dgn peran comedic seperti ini, Faradina Mufti sebagai Ibu Guru galak tapi paling peduli & Dian Sastrowardoyo yg berhasil dgn tantangan peran yg ia ambil sendiri. Penulis juga senang kembali menonton film arahan Sammaria Simanjuntak yg pulang ke ranah komedi setelah terakhir dibuat tertawa oleh aksi ibu & anak di film Demi Ucok. . Di situasi pandemi seperti ini, tantangan yg dihadapi oleh Guru-Guru yg mengajar di pelosok semakin berat, seperti akses teknologi yg tersendat & tidak murah. Teamwork makes the dream work, though these past 7 months are far from the dream we had in mind. Wed like to give a shout-out to our food vendors (cooking all the goodies) who have helped us keep pints flowing at the @roundaboutpopup and a few odd Sundays at the brewery location. . . Most food trucks schedule well in advance for the upcoming year. Many of our fellow small business owners in the food truck industry lost scheduled 2020 dates for festivals, weddings, birthdays, and more. The trucks that could continue to vend with us worked with our shortened hours (to go can sales only) and then all moved down to the pop up location when we were able to serve pints again. . Though some people have grumbled about the state/county mandatory meal requirement for pint sales, many see it as a chance to support two small business owners at once. Win-win. . “These pics represent one of my favorite things about doing shows at @la_rockwell : weird bits that happen organically and then take on lives of their own!🤪 • Top: When we were doing ‘Scream!’ (I think in ‘15), @peteravogt and I were playing Dewey and Tatum and his mic went out, so he grabbed me and started talking into my mic (so, basically, into my mouth). I said something like ‘this would be weird if we weren’t brother and sister...’ And a dumb bit was born. Peter continued to speak into my mouth pretty much anytime we were onstage together. It made no sense, and we didn’t care. In the top photo he’s speaking into my mouth in ‘Home Alone.’ . Bottom: In ‘Home Alone,’ Peter also decided that in the Santa scene he would try to give Kevin something different every night. Vessel aground! Air Station Savannah recently hoisted two individuals to safety after their vessel ran aground on a rock-constructed jetty near St. Mary’s Inlet, Florida. The crew executed a 50-foot hoist with zero illumination and we were able to safely transport the men back to solid ground. He created, trained and led his own militia (Coluna Infernal) with one objective: to kill communists. The training Roxo put his men through was utterly merciless. He would shoot at their feet unexpectedly in order to not flinch under fire. He forced them to jog, climb mountains and wade upstream through rivers for hours, all while wearing backpacks filled with heavy boulders. Accidentally making a noise during practice ambushes was punished by a vicious beatdown. As a result, Roxo’s men could move in complete silence, cover huge distances and still have enough energy to immediately attack the enemy upon arrival. Roxo firmly believed in fighting fire with fire, prisoners were rarely taken and he always reminded his men If you see anyone taking me prisoner, shoot me. He had a $100,000 bounty on his head and only lost 3 men under his command. The Coluna Infernal would don rags or enemy uniforms and stealthily join the victims of communist mass abductions, only to later slaughter the unsuspecting terrorists in their own camps. The man himself did not miss a single chance to participate— 15 were personally killed by Roxo during one attack. His soldiers’ kill-count exceeded that of all Portuguese regiments stationed in Mozambique at the time. In 1976, during a patrol near the Okavango river, his Wolf (APC) hit a landmine and was tipped over, crushing Roxo beneath it. The rest of the crew tried to lift it free, but it was too heavy. Roxo simply lit a cigarette and smoked it until he died. Not a single moan or complaint. Side note: During one of his hunting trips in the wilderness, he was attacked by a leopard. KOMODO update September 13th — OK things moving along over here quite nicely. Last week we pressed go with our manufacturing partners in Northern California and in Mexico as we officially begin preproduction for the normal black production Komodos. Don’t get too excited.... This bring-up takes some time.. normally just a bit over a month and there is still lots to do and still lots of opportunity for shit to go sideways so all of you waiting for the black cameras cross your fingers and I’ll keep you updated along the way.. Just a reminder since people keep emailing me, The email-Jarred-and-knock-on-the-backdoor-stormtrooper-list is closed. We have been assembling the remaining stormtrooper parts and will send them to our premier dealers in the next week or two, so if you want to get a stormtrooper please beep the dealer you love the most from the list below. Inventory will be limited and I assume will probably go fast. Once they are sold out that’s it for the white Komodos. Thank you all that have come along for the ride.. this beta program has been more successful than I could have ever imagined. Back in September I got a call from @jennsantana at Men’s Journal to join writer @jessewill on a story that would follow a team of U.S. Border Patrol agents (affectionately known as “Tunnel Rats”), who intercept and remediate cartel tunnels that enter the U.S. from Mexico. Without hesitation I said “yes”, and then days later the thought of going 18 ft. underground into chiseled out rock that spanned 3 ft. wide by 4 ft. tall put me into a full blown panic attack I had never experienced before. Once we were underground I found myself in a completely different state of mind trying to make sense of everything going on and barely thinking of the confined space we were in. I was distracted and impressed by the rail system used to transport drugs, the remnants of crude lighting strung throughout (it was pitch black for us), and the airflow system using bounce house blowers you’d see at a kids birthday party. I definitely encourage you to read Jesse’s story, but I’ll share a couple more photos from the day soon and I’m happy to answer more questions in the comments so I can keep this caption from going on and on... - @brianguido on Instagram
