Yearly checkups shouldn’t be a big deal, but every visit to the doctor is hard in Marjorie’s world. She carries so much PTSD into every situation involving a white coat. Thankfully, today ended up with only one quick tear session after she realized the flu mist was not a shot! Not to mention our extraordinary pediatrician Dr Atkins is truly a gift to kids and Marjorie. Marjorie loves any opportunity to just talk, answering Dr Atkins questions about school and friends! Marjorie declared her bravery before the flu mist “I am Marjorie and I am brave!” Part dramatics and part self talk. And used her bravery to conn me into a Target trip and sushi 🍣 🤷‍♀️ It’s also not lost on me that our yearly appointments always fall during childhood cancer awareness month...and NICU Awareness month. I joke we belong to too many awareness months but such is life. Support local pediatric cancer organizations and research organizations. Our kids deserve better research. Para hacer la historia corta. De la emergencia, tenerminamos en el hospital y el pie tenía un dedo quebrado 🤦🏻‍♀️💔 Dos lecciones: * las fracturas pasan y hay que pararles bolas! Igual que cualquier síntoma de enfermedad. No nos puede invadir el miedo de este virus. * El @nicklaus4kids estaba con cuidados extremos para la seguridad de todos. Los doctores y las enfermeras nos dieron calma, apoyo y trataron a Micaela hermoso en la mitad de procedimientos muy dolorosos. La verdad es que el hospital está con muy poca gente, pero todo el personal médico está ahí, con todos los cuidados y la mejor actitud para atender los niños. We are three weeks into our homeschool adventure and while I talk about it a lot in my DM’s and conversations with friends I realized I haven’t posted much about how its going in my feed!⁣ ⁣ We took our #booksharkboxday photos awhile back and I never got around to posting them. 📚 We are LOVING the Bookshark curriculum! I mean, just look at all the books we get to read this year! 😍 I’m in heaven.⁣ ⁣ Things we love about homeschool:⁣ ⁣ - FREEDOM of schedule⁣ - Studying the things we are interested in⁣ - Working with @techtrep and their amazing technology classes⁣ - Spending lots of time together as a family⁣ - The friends and community we’ve found⁣ - Field trips⁣ - School is everywhere, we’re not confined to a classroom!⁣ ⁣ I’m still finding my rhythm with being a homeschool mom and working from home but I learn something new every week. I definitely have to be disciplined with my workout schedule because it’s so easy to think I will “find the time later” since we are home all day.⁣ ⁣ My morning routine has been crucial. I love that time when the house is quiet and I can take a few moments for myself to pray, read, journal and meditate before the day gets rolling. It’s also when I can get work done uninterrupted and a fasted workout.⁣ ⁣ Who knew meal planning would feel more important than ever, even though we are in charge of our schedule?! I’m handing over more responsibility to the kids and they are rising to the occasion.⁣ ⁣ Because I’m quickly switching over from school mode to work mode to mom mode there isn’t time to dilly-dally! If we’re going to eat healthy meals I need to a plan going into each week, pre-chop fruits and veggies so the kids can serve themselves, and have recipes that everyone will love.⁣ ⁣ I have been clinging to the truth that God created 24 hours in a day, and not so I can squeeze 26 hours of work into it. Today was Moving Day! We had to have the PODS packed up by tomorrow in order to arrive when we need them next weekend. And we had an unbelievable amount of help, especially for a Tuesday! Today’s park adventure was a little crazy. I got bit by ants, Rhode sat in water, Avery had a huge spider climb up his leg, and then the boys played in the splash pad fully clothed so they rode home in their undies. Oh! HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! 📚 📝 ✏️ This morning I cut my son’s hair with the kitchen scissors, and then let him take said scissors to school because I forgot to buy him some. 😬 It’s where I am in life. Oh yes, first-day-of-school mom winning right here. 🙋🏼‍♀️ Our son was so excited to be able to start third grade in-person at his new school, and our daughter is going into sixth grade virtually for now. Their tradition since they were little has been to take a piggyback picture together, but my her legs are getting long! 😆 I wish I could hunt down all the years photos to look back on now, but again, not that mom right now and it’s okay. I’m sending prayers to the kiddos and teachers today going back in-person, virtually, in hybrid learning models. It’s definitely a challenge for kids, families and educators. This isn’t what I planned on posting today. I was going to post a pic telling you about my go to coffee order but instead I’m sharing this picture ... taken in the dark ... with no make up on... that doesn’t match my feed at all ... because this picture is special. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today is Avas first in-person day of kindergarten. Today marks the official new season of life my little family of 3 is stepping into. And we couldn’t be more excited. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A lot of people have been asking me how I feel about Ava going to kindergarten. And I tell them I feel GOOD. I’m EXCITED for her. I know she is going to love it and it’s going to be good for her socially since she’s an only child. I also know this is going to be good for me because I will have 2 full days a week where I can focus solely on creating killer content that serves my audience well! I don’t get saddened by the past when a new season starts. I’m not sad Ava doesn’t say “mean” when she first spots the moon at night anymore. It’s our FIRST, 1st day of school! Noir was very excited and a little nervous to start daycare today. Im so proud of her, she’s already so smart and (according to teacher) she’s settling in well. This was a bittersweet day for mama. @saint_chubbz and I have been struggling trying to work without childcare since March. And in a move across multiple states and an uprising for Black Lives and our little family was close to combustion. This transition was so needed and welcomed. But also Noir has never been to daycare. She’s only been with our little tribe for her two years of life. Knowing that she is venturing off in such an independent way makes me terrified and sad. But as @thesashashow reminded me this weekend, the independence is necessary for their growth and for mommy’ssanity. I miss her so much already and I can’t wait to debrief her day. I learned this fact from an ER doctor after I explained what happened at the park and why we rushed into the hospital. It’s a very common injury in kids that most people don’t know about. ⁣ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ The risk comes not from the child actually going down the slide, but rather going down on your lap. Too often, a kid will kick their leg out from the parents grip and the rubber from their sneaker will catch on the rubber from the slide. Being at home has opened up our creative minds - more crafts and activities to keep the kids happy (and everyone is happy!). I’m sure you fellow parents can relate. We were super excited to let Bosley choose an activity and he picked watching his fav series #GoGoCoryCarson on @netflixfamily . We love watching this show as a family as it’s a fun way to teach our kids about the importance of friendships, problem-solving, and other life lessons all through humor and heart. To celebrate A Go! Go! Cory Carson Summer Camp episode, Boz and I made our dog Minnie her very own Cory Carson car to sit in while we had our own at-home themed watch party! With a cardboard box, some construction paper, scissors (parents - dont forget to help the little ones with the scissors!) and glue sticks - We were able to whip up this super cute car for her (super easy!). Find the size box youd like your car to be and the color of construction paper of your choice (we chose orange for Cory). Use the glue sticks to attach the construction paper to cover the outside of the box. Trim the excess with scissors. Using a water glass, trace cardboard to make tires. Use something bigger/smaller as your guide, depending on how big youd like the tires to be. Last step - Have fun decorating. Be creative! And don’t miss A Go! Go! #sundayrunday The first half of todays run *felt* absolutely effortless! As I ran I was giving myself a mental pat on the back: The breathing and mobility exercises Ive added to my warm-up... My posture work in keeping my thorax stacked for effective use of my breath and core... The intentional build up in volume while focusing on balance strength...
