- Milsurp Range Day is Best Range Day

This handy little carbine is a bit unique among Lee-Enfields: it was designed expressly for a colonial government, specifically New Zealand. At the outbreak of the Boer War, New Zealand’s troopers were armed with the obsolescent Martini-Enfield. Although chambered in .303 British and wielded by very capable New Zealander Rough Riders, the Martini was nevertheless a single shot rifle and ill-suited to compete with the Boers’ Mausers. Although the British already fielded a cavalry carbine Lee-Enfield variant, it was unsuitable to the fighting style of mounted infantry, as it could not mount a bayonet. Mounted infantry were expected to ride into combat, then dismount to fight. A new carbine design was quickly rushed into service and was announced in the List of Changes as LoC No. 10220 - Carbine, Magazine, Lee-Enfield. Fitted to take the Pattern 1888 Sword-bayonet. The carbine utilized a standard cavalry carbine receiver with what was essentially a Martini-Enfield fore-end, handguard, barrel, and nosecap. The first 1,000 “NZ Carbines” were built at RSAF Enfield in 1901-1902 with the final 500 delivered in 1903. This particular NZ carbine was the 216th built. 🇳🇿 🇬🇧 1901 RSAF Enfield “NZ” LEC If you liked this post, make sure to check out these other great firearms accounts! @enfieldcollector @rolis_historic_firearms @milsurps_and_more @milsurp_underground @uglyirons @forestfirearms @_milsurp_fanatic_ @canadianfirearmsmuseum @arms_and_relics @milsurp_mariner @swisssurplus #rule303 #enfield #leeenfield #british #boltaction #cavalry #carbine #newzealand #newzealandarmy #newzealanddefenceforce #victorian #britisharmy #antique #milsurp #guns #gunsdaily #gunsofinstagram #firearmphotography #boerwar #militaryhistory #historygeek #historynerd - @he_breathes_fire on Instagram
