💡Scoliosis Exercise Ideas💡 — ❗️There are many types of scoliosis, S curves, C curves, curves in the cervical spine, curves in the thoracic spine, curves in the lumbar spine or a combination of any of these! That means there is no one-size-fits-all exercise or rehab plan. — ❗️For instance, I have a minimal Right sided C curve in my thoracic spine. (The image on the cover is as close to mine as I could find). My main problems are my left shoulder is slightly lower than my right shoulder, my left Lat gets super tight & bound down & I have a lot of tightness in my left QL (Quadratus Lumborum) which causes the left side of my hip/pelvis to be a little more elevated. Oh & I’m also limited in left thoracic rotation. — — ❗️There is literally no way, without surgery, to “fix” my curvature, as it is structural. But even with it being structural, there are certain muscles that remain tighter (the shortened side) & certain muscles that remain weaker (the lengthened side), that can be perpetuating the problem & these are the things we can work on to help maintain the level of curvature so it doesn’t get worse over time. — ❗️So for me, it’s important to mobilize the things that are stiff (rib cage/ thoracic spine) & stretch the things that are tight (lats / QL) & then of course strengthen & stabilize the “core” & midline. — ❗️The following are some of the exercises I use to accomplish those goals. Need a 20 minute dinner recipe? 🍤 Mediterranean Shrimp with Peppers & Feta is quick, easy and perfect for using that bag of shrimp you have stashed in the freezer! 🍴 Ingredients: 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 pound raw shrimp salt and pepper to taste 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes 1 medium onion thinly sliced 2 bell peppers 2 cups diced tomatoes 1 teaspoon dried oregano 2 cloves garlic 1/4 cup dry white wine 1/2 cup crumbled feta fresh basil Instructions: Pre-heat a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat. Pat shrimp dry with a paper towel and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Add olive oil to pan then place shrimp in a single layer. Cook until shrimp are pink, about 3 minutes per side, flipping once; remove from pan, and set aside. To the hot pan, add the sliced onions, peppers, garlic, and another pinch of salt and pepper. Saute until peppers and onions are tender and slightly caramelized, about 7-9 minutes, stirring frequently. Return shrimp to the pan and add white wine. Use a wooden spoon to deglaze the bottom of the pan and continue to heat until alcohol burns off a bit, about 60 seconds. Stir in tomatoes, oregano and chili flakes if using. Saute for another 2 minutes or until tomatoes are warmed through. Sprinkle with feta cheese and basil before serving. Turmeric Almond Chocolate Chip Cookies (vegan, gluten-free). It’s not only black pepper that has the power to activate the antioxidant in turmeric called curcumin. Healthy fats like coconut or in this case almond butter will help dissolve curcumin for better absorption in your digestive system. Although sprinkling a little black pepper in these cookies won’t damage the flavour, especially since you only need one twentieth of a teaspoon (!) of black pepper to fully benefit from the turmeric antioxidant powers, just a pinch. These cookies are basically a golden milk latte transformed into melty chocolate chip cookies, spongy and moist on the inside with a slightly crunchy outer layer. Ingredients: 2 cups of almond flour 1 cup of banana flour 1 cup of coconut sugar 3/4 cup of almond milk ¼ cup of almond butter 2 dates (or dried figs) 3 tbsp olive oil A few pieces of fresh turmeric root (or use 3 tbsp of turmeric) 1 teaspoon of ginger powder 1 teaspoon of cinnamon ½ teaspoon almond extract Instructions: 1. Combine all the dry ingredients in a medium sized mixing bowl. 2. Put the almond milk, and almond butter inside a blender with the dates, olive oil, turmeric, spices, and almond extract. Liquify them together to make an ultra creamy sweet milk. 3. Make a well in the middle of the dry ingredients as if an asteroid hit the bowl and left a bowl-shaped dent in the flours. 4. Pour the ultra creamy milk into the well you created and pile on the flour surrounding the indent in attempt to cover up the pool. Then mix it thoroughly until its texture is a little thicker than hummus. 5. Stir in the chocolate chips. 6. Use a retractable ice cream scoop to create evenly sized cookies and plop them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use slightly wet fingers to press the cookie dough balls flat. 7. Tastes like a cheeseburger, eats like mac & cheese. #eatmodern⁣ ⁣ INGREDIENTS⁣ 2 boxes of Classic Cheddar Style Modern Table Vegan Mac⁣ Vegan Butter, 4 TBSP⁣ Onion, diced, 1 cup⁣ Tomatoes, diced, 1 cup⁣ Vegan Milk, ½ cup⁣ Yellow mustard, 2 tsp⁣ Ketchup, 2 TBSP⁣ Vegan hamburger, cooked, crumbled, 8 ounces⁣ Banana Peppers, drained, 1/3 cup⁣ Vegan Cheddar Cheese, shredded, ½ cup⁣ ⁣ PREP⁣ 1. Preheat oven to 400°F⁣ 2. Prepare the Modern Table pasta per package instructions. Drain pasta⁣ 3. Place pot back on the stove and melt vegan butter⁣ 4. Add diced onions for 8 minutes until brown⁣ 5. Add tomatoes and vegan milk⁣ 6. Add sauce packets, yellow mustard, ketchup, cooked vegan hamburger crumble and cooked pasta. ⁣ 7. Mix well. Place in a 9x9 baking dish⁣ 8.
