Reposted with our thanks and gratitude for @oldtrailschool *** Last week our Librarian Heather Swift and her husband loaded 44 boxes of books collected from our March book drive into their cars and drove them to the @kidsbookbank. 📦 From February 25 through March 5 Old Trail co-hosted a book drive with @westernreserveacademy for Cleveland Kids Book Bank whose goal is to break the poverty cycle by exposing low-income children to language and reading from birth. Heather said that while she was at the warehouse delivering, one of the staff members noticed a Young Adult book titled Fantasy League by Mike Lupica and was thrilled - she had just received a call that morning with a request for Young Adult books, but they didn’t have any in stock. Their CEO said, I cannot explain to you how thrilling it is to see kids taking on this cause. As a co-founder, it is somewhat surreal to see the growth and theres something beautiful about the ownership your kids seem to feel. Tonight at Friends of Dover we heard from two groups, AFFA and the Todd Eaton Memorial Track Committee. With 44 members out with us on this chilly, rainy, blustery evening, Melissa and David won the hearts of the group and a good chunk of their cheques, taking home $2,600 towards the nearly $100,000 this group has left to raise by February to be able to resurface the track. Today marks one year since I lost my mom. It has been a weird year. A lot of things to come to terms with. You know as you get older your parents will pass,but you can never really be prepared for it. And especially not when it is by suicide. There is a lot of truth in that meme about checking on your strong friends,and the ones always helping everyone else. Mom was always on the go. The parents of Gracie Jones have set off on an epic walk from their home in Worsley to Filey today. That’s more than 100 miles over four days! Gracie was a former patient of RMCH and was mostly treated on Ward 84. Sadly she passed away in 2017. Her parents Caroline and John have done some fantastic fundraising for the children’s hospital over the years and we can’t wait to hear how they get on with their walk to @acegraceplace. With only 2 and a half weeks to go until the Great Pink Run, we remember why were doing it when we hear stories like Lauras. . She noticed a lump in 2018 when she was just 41, and as soon as she saw the look on the consultants face she knew she had cancer. She has 2 young daughters and vowed she wouldnt let the cancer dominate her life! For Laura the most difficult things for her was having to tell the people she loved that she had cancer. . Thankfully since completing her treatment last year she has had 2 clear mammograms and feels so grateful for the treatment she received. Breast cushions are specially designed crescent-shaped cushions that are often used during recovery. People recovering from surgery find that these cushions help them sit, sleep, and rest more comfortably, they also prevent injury that can occur while walking or wearing a seatbelt.
