#WarriorWednesday An East Greenwich police sergeant died in a skydiving accident in Connecticut Saturday morning. Christopher Callan was also a Rhode Island National Guard sergeant and an experienced skydiver. The Connecticut State Police said they responded to Danielson Airport Saturday morning for a report of a person who was injured in a rough landing at the airfield. He was transported to Day Kimball Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Callan was skydiving Saturday with Skydive Danielson, which is located at the airport. Maj. Dennis Pineault, a spokesman for the Rhode Island National Guard, said Callan had 30 years of total service. He’d served with the Navy, then with the Guard, then went active duty into the Army before returning to the Guard, Pineault said. He most recently was a senior operations NCO with the 56th Troop Command, serving as a senior planner for the organization, Pineault said. “First Sergeant Callan was an important member of our team, and the entire National Guard family mourns his loss and holds all of his family, his friends and his brothers and sisters in uniform, both in the National Guard and the East Greenwich Police Department, in their thoughts,” Pineault said. Pineault said the jump Saturday was recreational, and not related to Guard duties. Callan is survived by three children, as well as his mother, his father, and two sisters, according to a news release from the East Greenwich Police Department. He was a 15-year veteran of the police force and an “exemplary” officer, serving as second shift supervisor, the department said. He was also the jump master for the Guard’s annual Leapfest competition at the University of Rhode Island. “Sergeant Callan will be sorely missed,” the department said. Well shit...this is rough. After the books success, I was contacted and asked by the The Global War On Terrorism History Project to be forwarded a very special opportunity. They are dedicated to educating the public about the American Service Member’s experiences during The Global War On Terrorism. They accomplish this by setting up a traveling display which contains uniforms, helmets, and other items, all of which have the history of the service member it used to belong to. Its going to be hard giving these items up and never seeing or feeling them again. But, its for a good cause. Brent and his team will tell our stories and use these items to paint pictures for future generations. I am sending them my Patrol Cap, a piece of shrapnel pulled from my vest on my first deployment and the same top I wore during the Battle for Blessing my second deployment. As soon as I opened the box...the smell of the blood, sweat and dirt thats still on the jacket spilled out and onto my face. Retirement is a shit word. One year ago TODAY, the US Army Special Forces handed me retirement papers and said ✌️ I didn’t want to leave. I fought through rehab and surgeries for 2 years and hoped to be operational until the end. Ultimately, the decision was made for me, and I hated it. 1 Year later, after struggling through crutches for all of 2020, it crystalized... That was the correct decision. August 26th 2012 I get tasked to have my platoon go into a village that hadn’t seen NATO forces for a very long time. The intel that I gathered led me to discover that the village was being used as an enemy stronghold and they roamed freely during the day. I’m not going to get into the politics of war in this post, but I’ll just say that my recommendation was disregarded... Fast forward we’re on the ground and things immediately kick off on a bad note; aerial surveillance identified a spotter in the village...We continue to push forward and reach our dismount point. Switching to travel on foot, we push into the village where I encounter the next unusual occurrence, a group of children who would not come to me when I offered them some of the snacks that I always carried on patrol. Instead, the group of children waived for me to come to them, I ignore their gestures. We continue moving forward and then, as if things couldn’t get worse, we get a call that our surveillance is going down due to bad weather. A very eery feeling comes over everyone as we knew this significantly increased the chance of us being ambushed. I reach the entrance of the village with the lead element and we come across a Y-Junction where an odd situation begins to rapidly unfold. At the left fork we noticed a large group of people being ushered away from us and at the right fork was a small gathering of people waving for me to come over to them. I direct a group of my men to set up a machine gun team to cover down the right fork while I take a team to investigate the fleeing mass of people. I took off with my team fully expecting to get into a firefight...I was wrong, instead an enemy Soldier was hiding behind a wall amongst the people at the right fork; amongst the same people who had just waved me over to them several minutes before. This enemy Soldier popped out from behind the wall and let off a long spray of bullets from his AK-47. Two of my Soldiers were hit from the burst, Alex Kobza and Brett Corbin. - @meet_charleston on Instagram

On top of being a Marine officer with multiple specialties, Daniel Gordon was also a bulk fuel specialist in the Marine Corps Reserves prior to commissioning. Gordon has done multiple deployments (we focus on the invasion of Iraq and his units work in Mosul) and has completed a litany of professional schools. 4 months after enlistment day, we are finally no longer the lowest rank in the saf. our bmt was filled with disruptions due to covid and rain, and in a way, i feel that i got the lite version of the ns experience. i am grateful, however, that i at least got to experience the bRotHerhoOd and cAmaRaDerIe frequently advertised as part of the ns journey. indeed, there was never a dull moment with you clowns. from junyi and yuan feng’s antics to late night fire movement to me8 in bunk, the banter and music, and the innumerable brawlstars sessions, the days flew by painlessly (for the most part). so, thank you all for the laughter and conversations, and for your support and care when i needed it. i hope that on my part, i’ve contributed positively to the vibes (i’m personally quite proud of the “underhand” quote cuz i got the whole squad laughing haha), and that i’ve not acted like too much of an insufferable prick. aight thanks for reading bye. One Man Army: Gurkha Dipprasad Pun On the night of 17 September 2010, Sergeant Dipprasad Pun, 31, was on duty alone at night when he heard some noises and realized he was surrounded. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Pun opened fire with a machine gun, a rifle and a grenade launcher. He single handedly fought off up to 30 Taliban trying to storm his position near Babaji in Helmand Province, southern Afghanistan. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ At one point he had to use the tripod of his machine gun to beat away a militant climbing the walls of the compound.
