Every July the Manx parliament, Tynwald, continues a 1000-year-old tradition by returning to the ancient meeting place at Tynwald Hill for a ceremony, which includes the proclamation of all new laws created during the year. Shetland’s lawting met on Tingaholm, also known as Lawting Holm, the holm at the north end of Tingwall Loch until the 1570s when it was moved to Scalloway. The islet was originally linked to the mainland by a stone causeway. Many parish names point to a local assembly held in the area – Aithsting (Aith), Delting (Dale), Sandsting (Sand) and Lunnasting (Lunna). For years our forests have been extremely mismanaged. As of right now our skies along the entire west coast are dark brown and red. In Oregon Mt. Hood (pictured), Mt. Jefferson, and the Opal Creek Wilderness Area are burning. Opal creek in particular is an old growth forest with 500-1000 year old pine trees. Sacred relics of our state being destroyed resulting directly from years of not allowing controlled burns and responsible logging has created extremely fire prone forests. These forests not only are fire prone but due to large amounts of underbrush there is extended burning and burn damage. This is all across the west coast we are experiencing unprecedented wild fires. In Oregon even, 80% of all forest land destroyed by fire has been on federal land. When you obsessively work towards a goal long enough it turns out that it can actually come to life 👀 but, not by sitting on your tail! We never necessarily knew what it would take, how long it would be, or what it would feel like if we did figure this out. This particular goal took seven years to manifest, deliberate decision making, saving!!, two months of squeezing in build time, commitment, blood, sweat, tears, god tier patience, problem solving codes, and compromise.
