Almost 10 years Ago I started off as a part timer for Complete Nutrition in Wichita Kansas. The crazy part Is I wasn’t hired upon my first interview, another employee was. I later ran into the territory manager months later and he ended up hiring me. Flash forward 7 years and my wife and I went from being a rejected part timer to the owners of the #1 Complete Nutrition location out of all stores in the nation. Flash forward another 2 years and we got the legal support to get out of our franchise agreement and Re-Brand as our own company... Complete 360. In the little over a year since we have rebranded we have grown at a rate that we have never seen in our 9 years of business. Walking alone on a night time in a misanthropic road, I sang along with the howls of nocturnality, My fingers chattered and gossiped with the breeze, Until A dog, as alone as me, gave a hard stare. The cynophobia in me shushed my serene senses, I turned 180 degrees and decided to walk back to my house, when my emotions directed at a guy 100m away from me. His eyes glimmering with lust, outshined the moon. While I shouldve been preparing to defend myself, my stupid brain raised a yet more stupid question, Wasnt the poha a tad salty today? My train of thoughts got interrupted by the sound of a turret clock. Times 12. Its my birthday today. I closed my eyes and clustered wishes and promises, and let out that bundle in a huge breath. The overenthusiastic angels from heaven, in pursuit of fulfilling my aspirations, played tug of war with them, my rope of hopes got shattered into threads of disappointments. The broken promises collided on the banner of my superhero, who wanted to come out for a jiff, to help me out. Suddenly, my soul grabbed the arteries of my heart, to fix my gaze on that guy, who shared the lust in his eyes to his lips, As he let out a grimace. I decided to play feminist songs from my phone, to scare the devil out of him. The dog behind me let a high-pitched bark, more than 20000 Hz maybe, alerting the aliens from the Neptune. I trembled and hugged my superheros banner, After an eternity of one millisecond, I opened my eyes to see the man and dog embracing each other. Notifications of regrets, spammed my heart for judging a mans character. I took my phone out and began posting, Not all men are rapists or predators. It depends on the way we look at things. Change your mindset. The stereotypes about men etched in my heart, began to fade away from the bizarre reality. Many of you know the person at the center of this photo... Mr. Yoshi! When we first opened in 2011 (this is James again, writing in 1st person) I used to close up the cafe every night and would leave the store well past eleven o’clock, every night. The only other person around, consistently, at that time was Yoshi. Usually he was the one telling me to get home safely because he was staying later. He always came over and asked how business was and always gave me words of encouragement telling me to focus on “good taste” and “good service” and to work hard and be patient. In some ways he was a father figure to me during the early days of Dulce. I will never forget those days and moments. It wasn’t for a couple of years before I got to eat at his restaurant and understand the history behind the place. This is the first Shabu Shabu restaurant in North America and families have been coming here for generations. When we first opened I saw people waiting 2-3 hours to have a coveted seat at that iconic U-shaped counter. When I finally got to eat here I started to notice parents with their Kids at the counter. Overhearing conversations, I realized that these parents had been coming to Shabu Shabu House from the time they were kids, just like they were also brought by their parents. Mornings these days look a lot like this 🍂 chilly walks, bundled up with my Charlie Bear. This morning ritual is so much more than exercise for me. It’s part of my morning routine that grounds me for the rest of the day. I talk a lot about creating routines/rituals and prioritizing your non-negotiable because when daily habits are done with intention they set you up to feel your best. Plus, they have the power to ground you down and create a solid foundation for how you are able to show up in your life. Prioritizing wellness or acts of self-care (in any form) isn’t selfish. In fact, I’ll go as far as saying it’s essential. You need to be able to do the things that make you feel you best so you show up fully in life and for others. When you’re energized, nourished, and rested you’re able to be a better mom, friend, wife, sister, etc. You’re not running on empty and you can give so much more. It also makes other areas of wellness easier. When you feel good you want to continue feeling good. It gets easier to make choices that are in line with feeling that way. But I also know that life happens (and this pandemic hasn’t made it easier for any of us). Sometimes we let go of the rituals and non-negotiable by accident. This doesn’t mean we’ve fallen off track or we’re failing. The best thing you can do is give yourself grace and mindfully work on bringing back those habits that make you feel 100%. I encourage you to pause and take a moment to see if you’ve let go some of the routine and rituals that ground you down. If so, what can you prioritize now as non-negotiable? Start with one small practice you can do daily that you know will impact how you show up. Seit einem schweren #Mountainbike-Unfall im August 2008 ist sie #querschnittgelähmt. Damals war die Familienplanung jedoch noch weit entfernt. Erst seit Kurzem war sie mit ihrem Partner zusammen und hatte soeben die Ausbildung zur #Primarlehrerin abgeschlossen. 👩🏫 Ihre erste Arbeitsstelle konnte sie leider nicht antreten, da sie kurz vor Schulstart folgenschwer stürzte und sich in den nächsten Monaten in der Rehabilitation im Schweizer #Paraplegiker-Zentrum (SPZ) zurück ins Leben kämpfte, anstelle im Klassenzimmer zu unterrichten. 12 Jahre sind seit dem Unfall vergangen. Es hat sich seither im Leben der heute 35-Jährigen einiges getan. Heute fast vergessen: die Annenpassage. 1986 wurde die Einkaufsmeile mit einer großen Erwartungshaltung eröffnet, 2008 war dann der Anfang der heutigen Leere. Mit dem Auszug vom Saturn verabschiedeten sich nach und nach auch andere Betriebe. Wenn wir heute zufällig am Annenpassage-Schriftzug, der über dem Eingang weilt, vorbeigehen, überkommt uns immer ein etwas eigenartiges Gefühl. Bisschen gruselig. Bisschen traurig.
