Before & After: The Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen was in early March 1945 one of two remaining bridges across the River Rhine in Germany when it was captured by United States Army forces. After 10 days it collapsed into the river but by then a sizable bridgehead had been established on the eastern bank of the Rhine. * The Battle of Remagen during the Allied invasion of Germany resulted in the unexpected capture of the Ludendorff Bridgeover the Rhine and likely shortened World War II in Europe. After capturing the Siegfried Line, the 9th Armored Division of the U.S. First Army had advanced unexpectedly quickly towards the Rhine. They were very surprised to see one of the last bridges across the Rhine still standing.The Germans had wired the bridge with about 2,800 kilograms (6,200 lb) of demolition charges. When they tried to blow it up, only a portion of the explosives detonated. U.S. forces captured the bridge and rapidly expanded their first bridgehead across the Rhine, two weeks before Field Marshal Bernard Montgomerys meticulously planned Operation Plunder. States of India: Himachal Pradesh Topic: The Nurpur Fort The Nurpur fort, of which the massive ruins may still be seen, stands on a plateau (2125 feet) to the south-west of the town and had deep ravines on three sides. The main entrance was from the north side. Formerly known as the Dhameri Fort, the massive Nurpur Fort was constructed by Raja Basu, the ruler of Pathankot, in the late 16th century. It is known for its impressive architectural designs, particularly the walls that have deeply carved panels depicting figures of birds, animals, men, women, children, kings, gods, and goddesses. Tourists can also pay respects at the Brij Raj Swami Temple, located within the premises. A special feature of this site is that here the idols of both Lord Krishna and Meera Bai are worshipped together. The Nurpur Fort retains its charm with its expansive precinct, archeological ruins, ponds, and a 400-year-old maulshri tree. The fort has been named in honour of Mughal empress Nur Jahan, who is believed to have taken a fancy to the beautiful valley of Nurpur. The fort was destroyed by the British and then by an earthquake in 1905. The temple inside the fort called Brij Raj Swami was built in the 16th century and is known to be one of the only places where both the idols of Lord Krishna and Meera Bai are worshiped. Talking about this city, before 1947, it was considered as a princely state and was ruled by the Pathania clan of Rajputs. It is said that this Pathania Clan had ruled for more than eight centuries in the same region. The climb maybe tough ..but the view from the top is always better. 🙌 Exploring Sinhagad Fort was truly a wonderful experience. For those who dont know.. Sinhagad fort around 25kms away from Pune city, Maharashtra. It was built probably 2000 years ago. The fort is a popular trekking destination. And the view from the top is just incredible. The fresh air filled my lungs making me feel refreshed and exhilarated. The city felt so small from top. All the tall buildings seemed to just look like toys from Lego. Similar to our daily life situations.. we dont really see the view from the other side and make a decision based on one side of the part that is heard or seen. An RNLI lifeboat was based in Polpeor Cove until 1961 when it was relocated to nearby Kilcobben Cove, which was better suited to the newer, faster boats brought in by the RNLI. The insatiable demand for luxury furniture in China and other neighboring countries is directly driving the destruction of Southeast Asias forests. Every day, Wildlife Alliance rangers are putting a stop to entire trucks full of illegal luxury timber, attempting to smuggle it out of the forest, before it can eventually get into the hands of bigger players and finally someones living room.
