SERPIENTE EMPLUMADA Siento que ya no hay mucho más que pueda agregar de esta ave tan maravillosa, a veces cometemos el pecado de “dar por sentado” las cosas, como por ejemplo que acá en Costa Rica puedo ver a un Quetzal a la orilla de la carretera y la mayoría de los puntos de observación están en los patios de las casas de los agricultores de la zona. Eso puede hacernos como fotógrafos costarricenses ser “mimados” y creer que en todo el mundo tiene oportunidades como estas, pero no es así. Por eso es que a pesar de que en mi trabajo veo quetzales como algo normal, cada vez que lo veo intento sentir el agradecimiento como si fuera la primera vez. El fotógrafo de naturaleza puede caer en algo que es letal para la pasión y la creatividad y es perder la capacidad de asombro. Asi que NUNCA pierdas la capacidad de asombro y tampoco te pierdas un momento por estar estresado que la foto no sale. Ya vimos lo frágil que es nuestra “normalidad” nunca la des por garantizada. It’s with the deepest regret that we inform our supporters & friends that Dale Sharpe passed away in Kansas in the United States on the 20 June, 2019 Dale was driving on Highway 2 north east of Harper where he struck a deer. Dale’s vehicle was disabled on the road and he sought safety calling for assistance. The vehicle started to billow smoke from the engine bay and Dale sought refuge on the side of the road. A passing motorist avoided colliding with the stranded vehicle at the last moment by leaving the road. Dale ran for cover into a ditch, however it’s understood the same oncoming vehicle sought refuge in the same direction simultaneously and he was subsequently struck. He was treated by health care professionals on scene and in hospital, however passed away at 2.14am. Dale was loved by many and will be deeply missed. On behalf of the family we thank you for all your support, but ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time. Sometimes it’s all about a being at the right place at the right time. The story behind this shot - a story talking about Lady Luck! We were in Al Qudra photographing some sunbirds and bee eaters. My friends decided to call it a day and head back, and I decided to take one last round of one of the nearby lakes before leaving... As we got near the lake, I saw a harrier fly past us and it was really close! Knowing my weakness for any bird of prey, I had to go and check it out... So I decided to follow it. I noticed it landed on an island in between the ponds, and as I got nearer it flew off, only this time it had something in its claws! It flew a bit further and landed again, and this time I stopped the car and decided to walk up slowly to get a closer look... As I walked closer it decided to take off again and move a bit away and land... This time though I was ready and managed to get my shots, and when I zoomed in, that’s when I noticed it had caught a dove! Autumn is a good time to photograph birds that collect and hide food like the jay (nötskrika). It’s a noisy and shy bird that you can find in the forest or parks. It’s particularly fond of acorns and potatoes. In the northern parts of Sweden where I grew up, it’s a very unpopular bird because it gathers food from bird feeders and steals potatoes from potato fields. I remember from when I was a little kid that my grandfather who was a hunter used to shoot them with his shotgun to clear the bird feeder from them. Personally I like the jay. MIRLO (Molothrus bonariensis) . El Mirlo es un ave común en Chile y que se distribuye por casi todo su territorio. Es muy parecido al Tordo pero de menor tamaño y tiene un brillo azulino más notorio en el caso del macho. La hembra también es más pequeña pero de un color más café/gris.
