The kids are not alright. Poorer families will struggle to afford to wash their childrens school clothes everyday to fight the coronavirus, a senior GP has said. Dr Anand Rischie has urged schools to be more lenient with their uniform policies so children from low-income families are not unfairly penalised, reports @dailymirror The GP said, We live in a very poor borough, we have got patients who actually go to the laundrette and they will have to go there every day, Dr Rischie said. At this moment in time we do not know how long it takes for coronavirus to degrade so washing clothes is key. But if they are going in their regular clothes, they can be washed on the weekend. It’s so important in society that we re-evaluate the schooling system That is inclusive for everyone regardless of their race however we also need to be looked at is the fact that black children of 1.7 times more likely to be excluded from school compared to their white counterparts this shows the systemic racemase trapped into the system and we need to make sure that punishment black children aren’t being punished more harshly than their white counterparts in a way that this can be done is by dismantling our own unconscious bias which has a huge influence on many of the things that I’ve discussed in this caption. Mi colaboración de este mes en @revistaestepais: Hay muchas personas que nos movemos en bici. La bici es un transporte muy efectivo, rápido y no contaminante. Evita el tráfico y es muy democrático. Los triciclos son a su vez un medio fundamental para la subsistencia de muchas familias en la Ciudad de México y sus alrededores y también son una opción alimenticia para muchos: bebidas, tamales, esquites o pan dulce. Los triciclos son parte de la comida chilanga y están desde la madrugada hasta entrada la noche rodando por la ciudad, abasteciéndola. Hace semanas nos enteramos, con mucho coraje, de la criminalización e intento de destrucción de triciclos confiscados. Como si estos fueran la raíz de los problemas de la ciudad (y no la falta de oportunidades de empleo formal justamente remunerado, por ejemplo) y como si lo que nos estorbase en la calle fueran los triciclos pero no el hecho de privilegiar a los coches antes que al transporte público. Las ciclistas debemos de entender la agresión en contra de los triciclos como una afrenta directa a quienes vivimos nuestra ciudad rodándola. Nos toca solidarizarnos y combatir las actitudes y políticas clasistas que pretenden segmentar a ciclistas de primera y de segunda. a long overdue update! (this might not be the most coherent sorry HAHAH) if you’ve followed me over a bit, you’ll know that i’ve been at uni for nearly a month, and it’s been (mostly) amazing. i feel the most independent and happy and in control of my life than i’ve been in a longgggggg time. being an “adult” is cool, but also daunting at times 🙈 eating wise, i’m doing pretty good. being surrounded by people who eat when and what they want is so helpful, because it shows what “normal” eating is like. i’m away from everything i was used to having at home (i.e. the plates and stuff) and i’ve had to just deal with it. i’ve also once again realised how shit cereal serving sizes are. i don’t weigh/measure any of my food, but i’m pretty sure the amount i eat for breakfast is wayyyyy over the “recommendations”, but uM, THE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE RIDICULOUSLY SMALL LIKE??????? random fact about me: i fucking love shreddies, especially the choco ones and the frosted ones. if you’re wondering why this post is all over the place, the simple explanation is: adulting is tiring. this week i’ve set up my bank account, planned out a monthly and weekly budget, done school work, gone to freshers (and got some amazing posters), dealt with annoying classmates and emptied+cleaned my whole room. the cleaning might have bee procrastination, but at least its productive procrastination, am i right? anywho, i thought i’d do a quick update, bcos i realised that my last post (SO SORRY!!) also, if you haven’t yet, check out my blog (where i ironically post more often)! a lot more about uni life and stuff there 😊 - @nutty_annaa on Instagram

A social distanced covid cleanup! Stopplastics did a trial run cleanup following all of the rules in these times of the corona virus. There were three of us...we each brought our own supplies, we distanced while walking and we cleaned up a mess of plastic waste. The cleanup took place in south Etobicoke along lakeshore blvd. and some side streets. It was blazing hot so our pace was slow. Nonetheless we managed to pick up a lot of stuff in the short time we were out there...lots of water bottles, candy wrappers, cigarette butts,plastic gloves and of course plastic bags. You can’t help but wonder how much of this stuff will make its way to our rivers and lake. El diagnóstico generalizado fue una intoxicación masiva por gases presentes en la zona 🏭⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Niños y niñas que habitan y estudian a una corta distancia del Complejo Industrial Ventanas resultaron los más afectados, pues diariamente se encuentran expuestos a altas concentraciones de contaminantes respirables emitidos principalmente por la fundición de cobre de Codelco, las termoeléctricas de AES Gener, el terminal de petróleos de ENAP y por las actividades portuarias e industriales ligadas a estas empresas.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ A dos años de estos episodios, cabe preguntarse: ¿cómo continúa la situación de los habitantes de Quintero y Puchuncaví? El documento «La negligente realidad de la Bahía de Quintero», publicado por Fundación Terram en 2018, hacía ya evidente los riesgos a los que la población de la zona es sometida, sin embargo, hasta hoy el panorama lamentablemente no ha cambiado. [University of Toronto’s Hong Kong Students calls upon the University’s removal of the Hong Kong Police Force’s Recruitment Listing] A University of Toronto Hong Kong Student Club and University of Toronto Hong Kong Student Association Joint Declaration on Hong Kong Police recruiting at the University of Toronto Recently, University of Toronto Hong Kong Student Association (UTHKSA) and University of Toronto Hong Kong Student Club (UTHKSC) has noticed that the University of Toronto’s Career & Co-Curricular Learning Network, posted a job listing from the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) to recruit students as police inspectors. We are aware that such recruitment listings from the Hong Kong Police Force have been posted by other universities globally such as the University of California, Berkeley, McMaster University and other institutions as the HKPF is putting in more effort to recruit overseas students. Although it is understandable for schools to provide diverse opportunities for students, UTHKSA and UTHKSC will refuse to support or promote such recruitment efforts from the Hong Kong Police Force and we call upon the University of Toronto to do the same. The reason why we are taking this stance is because the Hong Kong Police Force has been seen violating human rights by abusing their authority and using police brutality on both protestors and ordinary citizens on multiple occasions during the ongoing Hong Kong Movement. Actions of such had been recognized and documented by Amnesty International, in which they described these actions of the police force as “a disturbing pattern of reckless and unlawful tactics”1 We believe that these unjust and brutal actions of the Hong Kong Police force do not align with the values our university believes in. In particular, UofT has always embraced accountability and integrity along with other core values whereas the Hong Kong Police Force has displayed that they do not respect these moral principles. Obviamente muy prolijos , condicionando jurídicamente vil y sutilmente la legalidad de sus obscenas ganancias … curiosamente el ejemplo de Santa Cecilia sigue vigente… Hace unas semanas tuve el honor de estar en Barcelona , en un foro llamado SUMMUS , en un panel discutiendo estos temas tan importantes para la subsistencia de los músicos y sus familias, y me di el placer de haber dejado sin poder dar explicaciones concretas al gerente de contenidos mundiales de youtube, ante la sorpresa de un auditorio muy concurrido de popes de la musica , compañías y sociedades de gestión… Básicamente porque la arbitrariedad de algunos, pertrechados de andamiaje jurídico , marketing y mucho dinero y recursos , no podrán desmoronar al motor álmico que genera ese atributo único que es que la sucesión de sonidos , alturas, texturas, ritmos y matices nos tapicen el alma….. la musica es el arte de combinar las voluntades para dignificar nuestro trabajo … interpretemos el genero musical que sea , en cualquier punto del planeta , nuestro arte es nuestra fuente de vida, , y es el alimento para el alma de nuestra tierra…. Debemos hacer que se respeten nuestros derechos no solamente porque es justo , sino porque si se apagan los intérpretes , se apaga la música….. Pumpkin spiced latte season is finally here! 🙌 Ease into Fall with an iced version of the seasons most celebrated drink. LIBBY’S® Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte Yield: 1 Latte Prep Time: 5 Minutes Ingredients: 2 shots of espresso OR ¼ brewed Nescafé® Clasico Instant Coffee 1 cup milk (whole, skim, or almond) 2 tbs LIBBY’S® 100% Pure Pumpkin 2-3 tsp maple syrup (to taste) ¼ tsp vanilla Extract ¼ tsp cinnamon ¼ tsp ginger 1/8 tsp clove Whipped Cream for topping (optional) Directions: Fill a tall glass halfway with ice. Let’s talk MONEY 💵 I have made some comments before about “living like you are broke”, and “paying yourself first”. What do I mean by that? Above is an actual chart of where proceeds are going from a payout I am receiving later this week. Does every dollar have a home when it comes into your account? I am receiving funds from 2 land projects later this week and I already know where every single dollar is going. This is a breakdown AFTER TAX (because I am setting aside a percentage for tax too- pretty important) What do you notice here? I hope you notice that this is not sexy, it is quite boring. I am saving most of this for a downpayment. Then some into my rental portfolio accounts to beef up my reserves in case I have maintenance or rent issues in the coming months. Then saving for the 2 kids and donating some money to charitable causes. Lastly- a modest bonus for my wife, because she puts up with this behavior from me😉 My point- We invest FIRST and live off of the rest and will continue to do so until we have achieved financial freedom and time freedom. Don’t get me wrong, we save up for trips and ways to treat ourselves; however, this has become a mindset for us So here is the exercise: you receive a payout from a side hustle of 15%-20% of your total annual W2 pay (so 15-20k if you make 100k). If where is that money going? Really think about it. I mean I want a $2,500 E-Bike really bad right now so this shit is hard sometimes… But remember every dollar that you let go of is a dollar that cant go multiply in to more dollars for you. Se prorroga plazo de la Licencia Médica Preventiva Parental La Presidencia de la República comunicó oficialmente la extensión del Estado de Excepción Constitucional de Catástrofe por calamidad pública en todo el territorio nacional por un período de 90 días, debido a la pandemia de Covid-19 que afecta al país. Esta situación modifica los plazos establecidos en la Ley “Crianza Protegida” para la emisión de la Licencia Médica Preventiva Parental (LMPP) que tenía, inicialmente, vigencia hasta el 14 de septiembre, y que ahora extiende su rango de acción por 90 días más.   A todas aquellas personas que se encuentren haciendo uso de una Licencia Médica Preventiva Parental con fecha de término el 14 de septiembre, serán la respectiva contraloría médica, ya sea ISAPRE o Compin, la que ajustará el plazo de su licencia médica, no debiendo la persona solicitar la extensión, sino que se realizará directamente, sin necesidad de trámite alguno. A su vez, en aquellas situaciones en que la licencia médica preventiva parental por 30 días hubiere vencido el día 14 de septiembre del año en curso o antes de dicha data, la trabajadora podrá requerir la licencia médica preventiva parental en la página web de la Superintendencia de Seguridad Social. Para todas aquellas personas que finalicen su permiso postnatal parental desde el 15 de septiembre en adelante, podrán acceder a este beneficio en www.suseso.cl en fecha que prontamente informaremos. La ley de Crianza Protegida establece una Licencia Médica Preventiva Parental por COVID-19, que permitirá recibir un subsidio equivalente al recibido por el permiso postnatal parental. La extensión de la licencia será de 30 días y se podrá prorrogar 2 veces, totalizando un beneficio de 90 días adicionales al postnatal parental. La licencia expirará cuando termine el Estado de Excepción Constitucional de Catástrofe o la vigencia de la Ley. Asimismo, se extiende el fuero por el mismo tiempo efectivamente utilizado de la licencia. Viaggio ai confini dellItalia 🇮🇹 Nazario Nesta cammina da oltre un anno per percorrere il perimetro intero dell’Italia, Sicilia, Sardegna e Isola d’Elba comprese. Ha già percorso 10 mila chilometri e consumato tre paia di scarpe. Con sé ha uno zaino di 17 kg e una piccola tenda. Irene Righetti (@running.post) lo ha intervistato. . Sono partito il 19 maggio 2019 con soli 50 euro in tasca che mi ha regalato un amico. Non avevo un’attrezzatura specifica, solo uno zaino e una tenda. Zero esperienza. Non avevo neppure organizzato il viaggio: l’avventura doveva essere totale, con un solo punto fermo, quello di percorrere a piedi il perimetro dell’Italia, camminando sul suo confine più estremo, lungo il mare quando possibile. Sono partito all’età di 27 anni da San Nicandro Garganico, un paese di 13 mila anime in provincia di Foggia; avevo un lavoro, facevo il macellaio, ma ho deciso di lasciare tutto. Volevo scoprire il mio Paese in un modo del tutto speciale, con le sole mie forze, e allo stesso tempo crescere e migliorarmi. Ho già percorso 10 mila chilometri: me ne restano circa un migliaio per riabbracciare la mia famiglia: papà, mamma e fratello e tutto il paese che il prossimo ottobre (quando terminerò il perimetro) mi preparerà una grande festa. Da circa sette anni meditavo di partire per fare qualcosa che era totalmente fuori dagli schemi; in cuor mio sapevo che avrei intrapreso un cammino che mi avrebbe cambiato per sempre la vita. E così il momento è arrivato. Avevo scritto su un foglietto che a 27 anni avrei fatto una cosa folle e senza rendermene conto a quell’età è iniziato tutto. Non volevo fare qualcosa che era già stato fatto: l’idea era di creare qualcosa di nuovo e così ho pensato di percorrere a piedi l’intero perimetro dell’Italia, comprese le isole maggiori, ovvero Sicilia, Sardegna e Isola d’Elba. In celebration of #WorldOceansDay, I finally share with you what I’ve researched for 2.5 years. @sea_warden is an open-source framework for detecting and monitoring marine #aquaculture activity at scale. Fishing has stagnated and aquaculture now produces half of all seafood. In developing SW, satellite observations detected 235 fish farms consisting of 6,000+ net pens in Greece. It is my hope that consistent monitoring will provide scientists and policy makers the data needed to sustainably manage this industry. Le RNJLP est une Organisation Non Gouvernementale (ONG), qui regroupe des jeunes leaders des trois îles de larchipel comorien (de différentes régions et localités du pays). Le RNJLP compte plus de 600 jeunes leaders au niveau national formés en médiation sociale et gestion des conflits. Le but du RNJLP est de promouvoir le leadership de la jeunesse, traiter les questions de la jeunesse, l’amélioration de la paix sociale et la participation des jeunes au processus de la réconciliation nationale. Son objectif global est la lutte contre toutes sources de violences, la promotion de la paix, le renforcement de la cohésion sociale, l’éducation civique et citoyenne. Artist team Johnson Ramirez (that’s @elishebajohnson and @ktramirez71 ) have spent the last 8 months creating an art master plan for the @kcmetrobus RapidRide expansion program. They spent time with bus drivers, King County Metro Staff, riders, and transit-lovers alike. Even though the world looks very different than it did when this project began, watch for people-focused artworks and experiences to take shape as each new line begins service in the coming years. Notably, Johnson Ramirez worked with illustrator and avid bus-rider @aaronbagley to infuse the plan with visual vignettes that connect us with transit in a playful, accessible way. Super proud to share with you all my first ever music video, for @ziggymarley’s #WorldRevolution ft. @samuillkalonji! Directed, shot and edited it all myself (actually Ziggy helped shoot a couple clips). Also my first attempt at using #AfterEffects, so all the animation you see (there’s a bunch more in the full video) is just me YouTube-ing how to do stuff and then diving in frame by frame. I wanna say there’s probably 500 some-odd hours of editing in the thing (*sigh* 😑). It’s a little rough, but for some of it that was kind of the point, and for a first try I think it came out pretty solid. Also was cool that @applemusic picked it up for an exclusive and helped promote it within their platform. Hausse des risques sismiques selon Claude Prepti Claude Prepti, le plus populaire des géologues haïtiens, révèle lexistence de nouvelles failles pouvant augmenter les risques sismiques en Haiti. Ces failles ont été récemment découvertes par des chercheurs dans la Grand Anse et lArtibonite. Il sagit de failles pouvant être considérées comme secondaires mais qui sont dangereuses. Elles peuvent générer une secousse tellurique de magnitude de 6 ou 7 sur léchelle de Richter. Le violent séisme du 12 janvier 2010, de magnitude 7, sur avait provoqué le décès de plus de 300 000 personnes et dimportants dégâts matériels. Ce séisme navait pas été provoqué par les deux failles historiquement les plus importantes. Les experts avaient indiqué que les secousses avaient été provoquées par une faille jusque là inconnue dans la région de Léogane. Il insiste sur la nécessité de communiquer les informations sur les risques sismiques afin de sensibiliser les citoyens. Haiti est plus que jamais sous la menace sismique, martèle M. Prepti. Considéré comme le spécialiste qui a vulgarisé linformation sur les risques de séisme et de tsunami en Haiti, M. Prepti a été investi en début de semaines dans ses nouvelles fonctions de directeur du Bureau des Mines et de lEnergie (BME) en remplacement de Ludner Remarais. Il a réitéré sa determination à continuer à servir ses compatriotes avec humilité. Avec 40 ans de carrière, lingénieur géologue Claude Prepti, sattaque à un nouveau défi celui de restructurer le BME. Apparu sous les feux des projecteurs au cours des dernières années avec les contrats dexploitations minières, le BME a été au centre dune polémique entre les pouvoirs Exécutif et législatif. M. Prepti ne pourra pas, pendant le gouvernement de transition, initier des réformes en profondeur dans ce secteur.
