🍂World Mental Health Day🍂— Today, we recognize the realities of life for some and give validation for the thoughts and feelings people experience on a day to day basis. Life is not easy, life will test you time and time again. To be in a place so dark, where only you can understand the depths of what you are feeling. There are people who appear to be an exquisite array of happiness and vivacity but unbeknownst to some there is an inner blackness that seeps through their bodies that entices a disturbed and dreadful reality of thoughts that feel uncontrollable. I know that despite these feelings, life is an incredibly beautiful gift and for some people to find that they need validation of what they are going through, to heal, to grow, to be accepted for their state of health. // I have endured months of agonizing thoughts and all the physical symptoms that accompanied. I have felt hopeless, like I was never going to escape the undeniable fear that constantly overtook my body. Once I put my health first, I found the light; not linearly as healing isn’t linear but I was motivated to make that change. I encourage you to reach out if you are in need, to lean on your social supports; you are NOT alone and should never be alone. You matter. Since I was five, I ate five almonds a day To supposedly improve my memory. I stopped after turning eighteen But even at twenty six, minuscule daily activities bring out the vivid evocation of my love. Solving the daily sudoku In the morning newspaper, Flicking the pen in the valley between my fingers, Reminds me of his slender fingers, planting flowers with the magic of intertwining ours together. I open my wardrobe To take out a blue pleated skirt, And the image of his skyblue eyes Gets painted on my retina. Recalling which, I rapidly blink to control the breaking of a dam. I prepare my breakfast, Toast with a cup of tea Which turns out to be burnt As I was lost in thoughts about, How my brown breakfast Matched his perfectly tanned cinnamon skin. I see my reflection in the mirror, Admiring how the electrons lost themselves to form the oxidised jhumkas I was wearing, I recall losing my heart To form an adorable love story. I thought I needed him, The way I need oxygen, Instead he was the one which left me tarnished, just like my jhumkas. As the day comes to an end, I wrap my fingers around a hot cup of cocoa, the warm sensation soothing my anxious nerves. It reminds me of his arms wrapped around my waist, Comforting me after a long tiring day. I glance outside the window and see the sun bidding goodbye to the sky, I get a flashback of your farewell. This is where the almonds kick and remind me of a geography fact, ‘Sun rises in the morning’ And I remember, I’ll have to rise alone, Without my sun kissing me good morning, While my head rests on a book, The book being my pillow Instead of his torso. #silverleafpoetry #poemsindia #writersday - @inkedwithwords on Instagram

I spend an inordinate amount of time on Instagram. I love it. It’s my favorite platform. I’m endlessly curious and fascinated by how people live their lives and how they share themselves on this platform. After a while, it started to feel strange to not see myself here. So I did an experiment in August. I posted every single day. I shared four of the 30 habits I track on a daily basis - moving my body, meditating, eating primarily whole food plant based, and drinking at least 72 ounces of water a day. I’ve enjoyed sharing and allowing myself to be known by you in this new way. Now it’s the first day of a brand new month, I think I’ll stop my daily posts and explore what and how I want to share moving forward.
