Today Council approved my motion to incentivize telecommuting in Los Angeles. Expanding work-from-home options could reduce commuter traffic, carbon emissions and smog. We know telecommuting can work. But it’s just one way we can build a cleaner, healthier Los Angeles. I’ve also worked for years to protect & expand our tree canopy - securing $25 million in the City Budget for proactive tree care, introducing a stronger protected tree ordinance, developing new ways to repair infrastructure without cutting down trees, launching a street tree inventory -and much more. Tree cover cools neighborhoods and cleans our air. They must play a leading role in our City’s future, especially in low-income neighborhoods that bear the brunt of urban heat.
