Big congrats to Aaron and the team! So honored to be a part of it. 🙏🙏 #Repost @aarondessner ・・・ I was excited and honored when Taylor approached me in late April about maybe writing some songs remotely together. I had been isolating with my family but writing a ton of music in the first months of quarantine which I shared. I thought it would take a while for song ideas to come and I had no expectations as far as what we could accomplish remotely. But a few hours after sharing music, my phone lit up with a voice memo from Taylor of a fully written version of a song -- the momentum never really stopped. Over the next few months, we remotely finished 11 songs (She also recorded several others with the amazing @jackantonoff) of her magical new album “folklore”. Ive rarely been so inspired by someone and it’s still hard to believe this even happened -- these songs came together in such a challenging time. It wouldnt havent been possible without so much help from first and foremost my engineer Jon Low (@heyjonlow). And my brother @brycedessners beautiful orchestration on several songs from across the ocean. Justin (@blobtower) helped to write and sing a beautiful song and so many other friends from our community contributed brilliantly from their respective isolation — Ben Lanz (@lanzprojects), Bryan Devendorf (@postmoderndrummer), Bryce Dessner, @claricejensen, Dave Nelson (@dnelnelson), James McAlister (@900x), @jasontreuting, Josh Kaufman (@kaufyismynamo), JT Bates (@floortomjtbates), Kyle Resnick (@kresnick), Rob Moose (@mooserob), Thomas Bartlett (@tingalayo), and Yuki Numata Resnick (@kiyukiyukiyuki) — More on them later! En 1974 Werner Herzog viajó de Múnich a París a pie y a principios de 2020, antes de saber que nos llegaría una pandemia, lo hizo @pablo_maqueda_ . He producido este documental en colaboración con La cinemateca francesa y el propio Werner Herzog (🤯😱), quien ha narrado parte de su libro “Del caminar sobre hielo” exclusivamente para la película. El libro de Jane Austen de 1815 que ya se ha recreado un par de veces en el cine tiene una nueva reinterpretación y en lo personal la verdad es que me gustó mucho. 🔸Sátira social, intriga romántica y políticas de género son los términos que podemos usar para describir al libro del siglo XIX que ha copado hasta los clásicos cinematográficos modernos (Clueless, dirigida por Amy Heckerling). 💅🏼Emma Woodhouse es linda, inteligente y rica, tiene 20 años y es hija de un padre viudo y cariñoso. Lo cierto es que Emma no vivió nada demasiado complicado y tampoco tiene responsabilidades, así que se divierte haciendo de cupido y manipulando las relaciones de quienes la rodean. 🥴Un buen día llega Harriet a la vida de Emma. Una chica humilde comparada con ella que además es bastante inocente. Nuestra protagonista se esmera en conseguirle pareja y medio que termina armando un enredo dónde falla bastante la comunicación. ♥️Vemos de entrada qué pasa con su ~interés romántico~ (Knightley, su tutor): hay diferencia de edad que no molesta por cómo hicieron al personaje de Knightley y una dinámica de poder desigual, disparidades recurrentes en el mundo de Austen. Si bien hay un amor patriarcal, la interpretación de la directora nos ofrece un vínculo más igualitario, en dónde las lecciones que él pretende darle a ella vienen más desde el corazón que desde la moralidad. ✨Está muy bien adaptada y nos saltea todo lo que no tenemos ganas de escuchar en el 2020. Todo en pos de reforzar que la historia pasa por Emma, por la complejidad de su personaje, por su floreciente mundo interior y por su búsqueda de sí misma. La estética es hermosa y nos hace acordar un poco a María Antonieta, de Coppola, con esos colores y esos vestuarios que AMO. Kind lil photoart I made inspired by ‘august’, track 8 of Taylor’s Swift surprise album, folklore. I’ve seen a lot of people, specifically major music critics, sharing how extremely different this release has been from her other music, and how she’s entering territory she’s never navigated before--ya know the usual experimentative pitch that writers love to milk (ME included tbh). I think that it’s important to note though, that all of the themes and elements personified by Swift are nothing she hasn’t already dipped her toes in. They might not have been explicitly highlighted through single releases that we’ve heard before, or accompanied by publicly-acclaimed major video releases, but the Swift we remember from ‘Speak Now’ or ‘Red’ is the same girl we hear in‘folkore’--but with a stroke of maturity and soberness. Deep cuts like ‘Daylight’, ‘New Year’s Day’, ‘This Love’ seem to foreshadow the new era with their meditative, soft ballads and embrace Swift’s raspy vocalization, but they don’t completely stand in solidarity with folklore. Folklore is entirely new yet nostalgic. A kind familiarity of the young, honest girl we remember from our youth with quick wit, but we’ve both grown up. I’ve been trying to find the time to really invest in a detailed, meaningful album review, but unfortunately my fellow journalism minor folks know that time is fleeting and we’ve gotta go viral before next week so there’s really no time. Today I am remembering this beauty that @anniehowepapercuts and I collaborated on for Aschley and Mikes wedding last summer in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Annies incredible papercut design reflects the desert landscape of their ceremony site.
