German troops advancing trough the dense forests of Russia. The leading vehicle is an Sd. Kfz 7 with a quad flak gun. The next vehicle is a Nashorn, behind it looks like a captured T26 and last a KV1. Unique to see a T26 so late in the war as this pic was most likely taken around 1943/44. But it could also be Finnish vehicles as they used lots of captered Soviet materials. Also sorry for the long absence I was really sick. 🔹️FOLLOW THE CREW🔹️ @brinkman_colourisation @the_dutch_historian @latvianhistory @gloriamagnus @ww2_dutchie ======================== Like! an american soldier has a Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR). Okinawa, 1945 The BAR was designed in 1917 by the weapons designer John Browning. It was a replacement for the French Chauchat machine gun. The BAR was originally intended as a light automatic rifle, but with many modifications, including a bipod, it started its career as a machine gun. #ww2 #ww2history #ww2pictures #japan #okinawa #1945 #BAR #chauchat #ww2guns #Rifle #1917 - @ww2_grey_pictures on Instagram

Ghost Division An actual propaganda poster, displayed on Signal Magazine on 1940, shows the Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. C, turret number 432, commanded by Oberleutnant Karl Hanke, assigned to Panzer Regiment 25 / 7th, Panzer Division, during the Battle of France. . Under command of Erwin Rommel, and part of the 15th Panzer Corps, the 7th Panzer Division became a myth, earning the Ghost Division name in the Campaign of France due to its rapid movements and the difficulty to contact them since no-one, even the high command, knew where they were. . Rommel, who fiercely understood Blitzkrieg concepts, would command often from near the front lines, thus saving time and giving orders from what he saw. . This proved highly efficient, and, in some ocassions, German commanders would disobey or ignore High Command orders, giving themselves new ones guiding by their instincts, and, as long as this disobedience ended with a favourable result, nothing would really happen. . This comes back from the WW1, where Stoßtruppens had to make their moves guiding by what they saw in the front lines, having no time to send and recieve orders from the HQ. . Combat and situations can suddenly change, so having the capability to act from what you see, gives you a lot of versatility. . Elements of the British 43rd (Wessex) Infantry Division fighting in Kleve, Germany on February 10, 1945. This was one of two towns (the other being Goch) that the Germans fortified behind the West Wall in the Reichswald Forest. Notice the Valentine Mk 1 Archer tank destroyer at the beginning of the film. The forward-most defensive German unit in the town, the 84th Infantry Division, was essentially wiped out in the fighting, and the British were able to secure Kleve on February 11th. From there the 43rd Division proceeded to advance 4½ miles to the high ground which overlooked Goch. Over the next few weeks the British experienced more heavy fighting as they worked to secure Goch, notably between February 18th and 21st. - @theworldwars on Instagram

On September 17, 1944, the Allies launched a bold and dangerous operation they hoped would catapult their armies across the Rhine, into the heart of Germany, and end the war before Christmas. Following the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, Allied progress was soon measured in yards as they had to crawl their way through the thick hedgerows of the bocage country. Each small field was a set-piece battle; the Germans would expertly defend one and then retreat to another. However, General Omar Bradley designed a plan to break out of the hedgerows and get into the open country of France. His “Operation Cobra” unleashed a massive bombing campaign of the German front line units. It was followed by an assault designed to pierce the German defenses and unleash the new Third Army under General Patton to drive the Germans out of the Brittany peninsula. Patton’s troops swept across Brittany and then joined the rest of the Allies as they raced to the Meuse River and eventually reached Paris by late August. The Allied invasion of Southern France had troops linking up with American armor under Patton and then racing to the German frontier. ---- Read the full story on SOFREP.com #military #navy #army #militarynews #unitedstates #america #SOF #specialops #specops #loadoutroom #airforce #spaceforce #usa #usarmy #usaf #militarylife #armedforces #operator #news #SOFREP #TeamRoom #duty #activeduty #patriots #marines #usmc #salutetoservice - @sofrep.official on Instagram
