Im posting this a little late but with good reason. 2 weeks ago Hurricane Dorian was bearing down on the East coast of Florida on the day we were leaving from Port Canaveral for a cruise to the Bahamas. Needless to say, we were rerouted! We ended up in Cozumel for 2 days with a return to New Orleans. Yes, we were one of the 2 ships featured on the news! There were some pretty unhappy passengers onboard, as we were dropped off and had to find our way home from NOLA. Luckily for us, we were able to book a flight back to Tampa easily and I rented a car for 2 days before returning for my car in Port Canaveral. It goes without saying, that as we cruised, our hearts went out to those who live in the Bahamas and suffered such terrible devastation. All in all, we had a nice trip but there was a little cloud hanging over us as we sat by the pool knowing others were experiencing such difficulties. I will note that Norwegian Cruise lines did give each passenger a $300 voucher for their trouble but for many that was not enough, making their return home a financial hardship. I will close with saying that plans are meant to be broken and sometimes you just have to go with it! I cant explain how much fun just this morning was. Found @earlybirdfishing and saw Capt. Ross was from Edisto and knew we were taking them out. Having @fisherwalter01 and @myrtleburch give the go ahead only made the decision easier. We had such and amazing time the Mate, Jimmy aka Worm, was awesome! We hit the Blackfin Tuna HARD AND FAST with @mccallahanckel_ bringing in a monster! Weather kinda screwed us for dolphin, but we made it work and caught some Yellowtail Snaps and some beautiful Jacks. Ya boi brought a Blackfin in off the reef with 12 lb test...no big deal. ACTUALIZACIÓN El día domingo estuvimos en el parque nacional Morrocoy y queremos comentarles toda la información que recabamos de primera mano para ustedes💙. Las barreras que protegen al parque de restos de hidrocarburos que puedan estár a la deriva en el mar están instaladas y cumpliendo su función, estas barreras se instalaron en Boca Grande, Bajo Caimán, Boca Seca, Tucupido, y en este momento se está instalando una para proteger la zona de Paiclá y Las Animas🙌🏼💙. Pudimos caminar por las arenas de varias playas, como por ejemplo, Cayo Sombrero, Playa Sur, Boca Seca y están limpias y espectaculares, gracias al trabajo de cientos de voluntarios🇻🇪. Un equipo de buzos voluntarios de los amigos de @frogmandivecentermorrocoy finalizó la instalación de los anclajes de las barreras e inspección de nuestro lecho marino y por ese lado todo está OK 👌🏽🏝 Se entregó donación de parte de todos los seguidores de @playasdevenezuela que colaboraron con la causa, logramos dejar bultos de comidas, carne, agua, bidones llenos de aceite para las lanchas que están trabajando, así que por este lado queremos darle las gracias a todos los que se han preocupado y han aporta su granito de arena (en la foto número 6 les dejamos un pequeña prueba). Our Disaster recovery work across northern provinces of Vanuatu continues. As part of Operation Nasama, in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Harold making a direct landfall on the northern islands, YachtAid Global and our coalition partners first focused on disaster relief at West Santo, delivering over 10 tons of food, kitchen kits, clothes & linens, and hundreds of shelter repair kits and other key items.. This month our focus has shifted to supporting the recovery efforts. Starting on the north-east section of Malekula, were working across 9 villages comprising the community of Vao. TC Harold destroyed community sanitation infrastructure that was not built to a sufficiently resilient design. As a result, the sources of drinking and cleaning water also became contaminated, and the Malampa Provincial Health Surveillance Unit reported a rapid rise in numbers of cases of illnesses including diarrhea and conjunctivitis. The recovery work will lead the development of more resilient sanitation & hygiene infrastructure and establishing more reliable sources of clean drinking water. Were starting the work with bringing in required construction materials, while partnering with the community leaders, contractors, and nurses who will also incorporate community-wide COVID-19 prevention training as part of the effort.
